I've just heard Harold reading an extract over the radio. The reviewer said it distressed her. Me too. If that extract indicates the contents, it's trite, cringingly cliched and navel-gazing nonsense. Very poorly written. And his delivery is awful - boring, monotonous and stilted delivery.

I understood that he was making those donations from the royalties, not the advance. If that's true, those charities will wait a very long time.

I have already seen a full PDF of the whole book posted on a FB group that I'm on.

Of course people are buying it, but they are laughing at him. Laughing at his ridiculous gossipy tales and brazen hypocrisy.

He may have made a few quid but has lost his family and any credibility he ever had, which granted wasn't much to start with.

A poster said the publisher need to shift 1.7m copies to break even, so he’s a quarter of the way there. I don’t know if sales will remain high so as most people will have pre-ordered and the papers are full of the best bits

I bought the book just to show support against slandering. I think people are being horrid. Mumsnet on this topic feels like watching the Oscar gala with my mother. Constant critique and badmouthing all participants, especially if they are female and/or anyway stand out from the crowd.

I liked the exerpt where he called someone an infected pustule on the ass of humanity. I mean if Jezza Clarkson had said that it'd be Sussex handbags at dawn.

But did he sell them 'in one day'? Doesn't that include pre orders which will be the bulk of the sales? From what I've heard, sales in bookshops today have been good but hardly hectic.

And given the massive hype around it, it was always going to sell fast, but I would think sales will drop pretty fast too. A week from now, it will already be old news.

Glad somebody mentioned this. Book was at half price, too.
