His publisher has confirmed he's sold 400,000 copies across all formats in ONE DAY. That's probably a record breaking amount for a memoir.

Why do people call him Harold?

apparently it is his nickname - William calls him Harold and he calls William Willy

HaroldsHoodie · 10/01/2023 19:05

Oh no...he might upgrade me. Sad Sad

milti · 10/01/2023 19:07

Blood money

ScribblingPixie · 10/01/2023 19:08

Laughing all the way to bank, I suppose.

DonnaDonna0 · 10/01/2023 19:09

Who’s buying it? That’s what intrigues me. 🤷‍♀️

Well, it's actually going to take selling more than 400k to make a dent in his mega advance – he'll only start to earn Royalties (no pun intended) when the (alleged) £20million is paid off. But yes, he's minted now.

You don't take on the crown & win... He who laughs last laughs best.. The Crown are biding their time, doing what they do best staying schtum... Soon he won't know what hit him. Enjoy your 5 mins fame Harold!

Me too! I'd pick up a copy if it was in a charity shop for 50p but I wouldn't buy it new.

simplefree · 10/01/2023 19:10

at the cost of selling his soul and embarrassing his children

Billybagpuss · 10/01/2023 19:11

How many of those are on Amazon that will be returned for a refund by the weekend as ‘ordered in error’.

What are they going to do though, in all seriousness? What's going to hit him? They're not going to comment, they're not going to sue – what exactly do you think is going to happen. I mean, he's probably unlikely to attend the Coronation now, but is that really such a big deal?

😂

You have to be quick to do that now! Amazon's changed its returns policy because it was damaging authors' livelihoods.

I suspect not attending the coronation and having to watch it on TV will be a very big deal indeed for him.

I’ve only ever done it twice, both times to Jeffrey archer - is that morally wrong 🫣

TattieBogle12 · 10/01/2023 19:14

Meh. Some things are more important than money. Like integrity.

StormObelisk · 10/01/2023 19:14

Sainsburys had loads on the shelves tonight, no apparent rush to buy in my little town.

Bollindger · 10/01/2023 19:15

Ah but the one trick pony is bolting, a book, a podcast, a netflix and a shed load of interviews.
Not much left as he also said about their todgers.

MarshaMelrose · 10/01/2023 19:15

To be fair, we're all having a bit of a laugh.

I expect people are buying it from Tesco - £8 with Clubcard apparently.

The Crown are very good at making their little problems disappear

There were high advance orders . Presumably quite a lot of them didn’t realise so much would be leaked as it was claimed that security was so tight that nothing would be released until today .

I don't know about morally (especially where Jeffrey Archer is concerned!), but as an author I can tell you it was frustrating until Amazon changed the rules. It used to be people had 14 days to return an ebook, so they could read the entire thing then send it back and get a refund – meaning the author earned no money for them reading it and it didn't count against their sales. Now, after a big campaign, it's been reduced to just 48 hours.

Whatistheanswer2023 · 10/01/2023 19:18

At £14 a copy that’s £5.6mill? The advance was £20mill. Some way to go.
