His publisher has confirmed he's sold 400,000 copies across all formats in ONE DAY. That's probably a record breaking amount for a memoir.

ShamedBySiri · 11/01/2023 11:51

The fastest sellling non-fIction book of ALL TIME

As I said upthread : Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows sold 8.3 million on day one in the USA.

I haven't checked figures but OP says Spare has sold 400,000 on day one.

He's got a long way to go before this seals his financial future.

Funny how everyone had been gobbling all sorts of shite from the Daily Fail about H&M with no problem, now they set the story straight, you can't wait for him to shut up.

Why didn't you tell the rags to shush.

And yes I do realise Harry Potter is fiction and Harry Spare is non-fiction.

Quick, chuck another squirrel 🤣

Anything to say about the shite that has come straight from the horse’s mouth. Or will you just be adopting Harry’s “… but, the British Media” on all the threads?

Patineur · 11/01/2023 11:56

How has he set the story straight, @notanotheroneagain? There are so many very obvious holes in his accounts that they take us nowhere in terms of establishing where the truth lies.

50shadesofneigh · 11/01/2023 10:58

Fewer than half a million - and is that UK or worldwide? and across all formats as well? Not when you think so many of those orders were advance ones from journalists and people in publicity and news and talkshows and researcheres and people who have to know about these things.

It's half a percent of the UK population.

No, that is not a big number.

It is 400,000 in its first day just in the UK.

That is record breaking first day sales.

notanotheroneagain · 11/01/2023 14:17

And the people going on about the count of the book sales.

This is in the UK only on day one. The best selling first day for non-fiction of all time. Even combined, only Harry Potter surpasses the sales.

In France, UK and US, they had to go and reprint more copies due to demand.

Doesn't matter who I quote, but this is fact.

I honestly am happy for Harry. I am glad he’s going to have money.

Sexism - the idea that Meghan give up her career and have no expectations marrying a Prince is sexist & racist. She had a nice life, she sacrificed and worked hard, she was giving to the royals & her privacy and name and freedom all traded. Of course she wanted perks and comfort and financial security and a nice life similar if not better to her own in Canada.

The idea she be humble and be happy with a little cottage and give up her career and private for true love and prove her humility & meekness is sexist . That you have one daughter in law that is English born and white and living in a 20 bedroom apartment while the other has to go through some hazing period of living in a frat house because they all have to is bazaar.

There are lots of wealthy people in the world including his own family.

Harry Has sacrificed privacy for his whole life.

The expectation the live in a modest home in La on a suburban street, or even in nice area wouldn’t work.

The idea they just have ordinary jobs, not need security or continue to live in the UK & go to the local village corner store - none of that is realistic.

It’s also probably not what they want after years of building careers & philanthropy on their profiles and having ambitions.

This idea you’re a gold digger to want something for your sacrifice/efforts is fairly backward.

the whole meek, mild Disney princess 👸 happy to just make love to her prince in a barn and give birth to babies with the worlds press taking photos of her moments after birth..…

its all so sexist

MrsPeachBottom · 11/01/2023 15:20

And also the idea that you’re rewarded and paid the same as people doing the same job of similar age and capabilities.

it’s like the royal family is a vortex where equal opportunity and anti discrimination and equal rights go to die.

I get that it’s a Royal institution and the whole idea is antiquated views and traditions reflecting sexism and hierarchy and a pecking order and no meritocracy & a history of white privilege.

At some point the argument of ‘it’s a Royal family and this is how it’s always been and it’s tradition to do x and x and have x’ doesn’t hold water.

You know who else is steeped in tradition and history…. North Korean government, the KKK, the Sicilian mafia….

At some point the Uk needs to decide whether they need a royal family that doesn’t coincide with equality, transparency, anti sexism, anti racism and the values of a modern society.

hoooops · 11/01/2023 15:27

I don't think it's sexiest or racist to remark on Harry and Meghan comparing their accommodation to that of others with a completely different family set up, instead of comparing it to what they actually need.

If my in-laws provided me with a free cottage in London when DH and I first got together, I wouldn't be moaning that it was smaller than his brother's place when he had a wife and two children.

I also don't think there's anything wrong with humility. And I believe Meghan made the decision to give up her career when the Queen said she could continue if she wanted. Nobody forced her.

MrsPeachBottom · 11/01/2023 15:30

If you think about it, please excuse my tin foil hat, but the royal family, when you boil it down, how are they different to a cult or Scientology…. we don’t really know what goes on and there’s all manner of weird protocols and pecking order and bowing.
imagije your step mother in law is rude to you and you have to curtesy to her & then keep quiet about all the weird stuff that happens and that you’re working for a brand that treats your brother amazingly well and puts you in a basement.

this idea of “Well Meghan should have known what was marrying into”. Is that what we would say to those sister wives or people in cults ?

I don’t think it’s a stretch to say this is a cult with a great PR spin.

the only people to have ever left it end up exiled or die mysteriously.

SirChenjins · 11/01/2023 15:45

Equally, if you joined a cult, hated it and found it to be against everything you stood for then you’d get out as quickly as possible, shutting the door firmly behind you - you wouldn’t demand a half in/out arrangement, you wouldn’t name your daughter after its leader, and you certainly wouldn’t pitch up to events.

Plenty of people have left it without being exiled or killed, don’t be silly.

MrsPeachBottom · 11/01/2023 15:55

I don’t think they’re fully out of the cult. Most cults don’t have media trolls that follow you & harass you for leaving. like Harry said, “they’re trapped” but arguably so is he.

The Queen wasn’t really the leader, she was more of a star follower.

The real leaders are the owner of the Sun and the Daily Mail & Rupert Murdoch.

SirChenjins · 11/01/2023 16:31

He’s not trapped - as has been said countless times before, he could have gone to the states, closed the door on the RF and built a life for themselves doing pretty much anything other than whinging about their lives as royalty.

You specifically said the RF were the cult in your pp.

bakalava · 11/01/2023 17:23

Has he joined the Cult of the Todger? He sounds like a perv here.
'What was the universe trying to say to me by depriving me of both my penis and my brother?'
'My penis was oscillating between extremely sensitive and borderline traumatised. The last place I wanted to be frostbitten.
'I'd been trying some home remedies, including one recommended by a friend. She'd urged me to apply Elizabeth Arden cream.
'My mum used to use that on her lips. You want me to put that on my todger...'

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 11/01/2023 17:31

Is that all from the book?!

No tin foil hat about it. It is some kind of cult/mafia/gang etc. that you cannot escape from.

And despite what people say, MM could not 'have known what she was getting into' when not only the cult members have been convinced it's all normal, but PR has been put out that it's a wholesome top family to the rest of us.

Guess this is where Harry fails.
Believing all the PR about how the RF is. So did I, tbf. That the sinister element is by the media - that the RF themselves are not the bad guys, just those who have bad employees now and again who push bad narratives.

They are rotten to the core !

PS : Harry did not join the cult, he was born into it.

He asks to stay into into, because he really believes that it's not as bad as it is, that it's just a few 'workers' who are bad, and really if you got rid of them, they will go back to being good.

The regal Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream, good enough for The Royal Member.
