Inconsistencies in Spare over hearing about Queen Mother's death

Harry writes that he found out about the Queen Mother's passing away (in March 2002):

"At Eton, while studying, I took the call. I wish I could remember whose voice was on the other end. A courtiers I believe. I recall that is was just before Easter, the weather bright and warm, light slanting through my window, filled with vivid colours. "Your Royal Highness. The Queen Mother has died." "

News reports at the time reported he was skiing in Switzerland with Charles and William. The Queen Mother died on 30 March 2002. Easter Saturday. He wouldn't have been at school.

Recollections may vary, indeed! I doubt very much Harry would have taken the call if he's been with his father.

The story link says they were returning from Klosters but this isn’t a direct royal/palace quote or attributed to anyone specifically and was speculative.

I think he's describing when he was going through a kidnap/hostage training and the instructors were treating him how any kidnappers might. MInd you, if the Taliban ever get hold of him, I imagine he won't have to worry about penile problems for long.

As a fan of memoirs, and somebody who has studied the art at University whilst doing my MA Creative Writing, memoirs are exceptionally difficult to write as there is always: she said, he said, and somewhere in the middle. However, on this occasion, I'm not entirely sure that this is a big a deal as people are making out. He probably confused the death of Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother (given that they were two months apart, 20 years ago, and he was a child). That the two of them would have been confused seems to, in no way, detract from the sentiment of the passage in the book.

This post is boggling my mind.

It's not a tiny detail - it's a multi million pound detail dissing every member of his family including the dead, knowing none of them can give their side of the story for royal protocols.

He's profiting off the death, misery and intimacy of his family. Exactly like the parasitic press he talks about - not much difference between the paparazzi exposing your vulnerable moments and Prince Harry being around is there.

Easter Day 2024 is however also on 31 March, and the term dates are already published - they break up on 22 March and return on 16 April. I expect it was the same (or very nearly the same) back in the year when HMQM died

FFS, he's taking offence at what his great-aunt gave him? That's unbelievably precious. My great aunts and uncles ignored us, and we were all perfectly happy with that. My great grandmother used to give quite easy presents like talc that you would instantly throw away, but I'm not offended about it, she was making the effort.

I feel so sorry for his family as the realisation dawns on them that he's been spending so much time noting everything they ever gave to him and everything they ever said to him, and looking for a way to twist it all into his narrative of how horrible everyone was to him because he was the poor little Spare.

This. And it's particularly unpleasant that he's used it to rubbish someone who can't answer back. Though I'd love to hear what Princess Margaret would have had to say if she could, I doubt she'd hold back with her opinion of her lying great-nephew.

Harry has established in his memoir that he did not like Margaret at all. I imagine he did not have a big emotional reaction to hearing of her death.

He clearly had a big emotional reaction to hearing of the death of the QM. That news was imparted to him on a ski holiday (nothing like being at school) with his brother and family, probably by his dad (nothing like a phone call from a courtier).

How and why would he have conflated the two instances?

But that's completely batshit, why is he lying about stuff that is so inconsequential? I think people who say his brain has been mashed by drugs are completely on the money.

I’ve noticed that this is a media strategy. The palace can’t refute the bigger stories or won’t & so they try and find any tiny inconsistencies to discredit people. Bully tactics and so obvious that the royal family is ab abusive, passive aggressive, strategic, manipulative, political, and cladestine operations - their PR strategy.

It was the Easter weekend, FFS. Of course the school wasn't open, and he didn't miss any school by going skiing.

Oh and the entire royal family almost, laughing at the cultural differences of a black Religious leader at their wedding & his speech - even in the part about slavery they were laughing.

He's either a) misremembered where he was (and the internet makes it very easy to check) or b) he's lying. Why, who knows. That isn't the fault of 'the media,' which is very clear that when the QM died, H was in Klosters with his father and brother; unless of course you're claiming that the media and/or the RF has manipulated that retrospectively.

But you've painted yourself into the corner that 'no photos means it can't be proved.' Basically you don't want it to be proved. Who knows why that is, either.

These rants about the RF and the media aren't even funny any more. They just sound increasingly unhinged.
