Inconsistencies in Spare over hearing about Queen Mother's death

Harry writes that he found out about the Queen Mother's passing away (in March 2002):

"At Eton, while studying, I took the call. I wish I could remember whose voice was on the other end. A courtiers I believe. I recall that is was just before Easter, the weather bright and warm, light slanting through my window, filled with vivid colours. "Your Royal Highness. The Queen Mother has died." "

News reports at the time reported he was skiing in Switzerland with Charles and William. The Queen Mother died on 30 March 2002. Easter Saturday. He wouldn't have been at school.

Recollections may vary, indeed! I doubt very much Harry would have taken the call if he's been with his father.

Didn't the editors do any fact checking?

But isn't giving rubbish/token gifts a royal family thing?

I thought this too.

I think the queen was once given that singing fish thing too.

Big Billy Bass. She loved it, apparently.

It's all a bit like Meghan's 'memories' of the LA riots

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 10/01/2023 18:07

I'm starting to think that the ghostwriter is Terry Pratchett being literally a ghostwriter.

the royal family are blowing the press and there’s nothing royal about that.

it’s all coming undone, and people are seeing them for what they are - white supremacists in tiaras.

still no photos - the media was a different and less accountable beast back then.

I suppose where he was when his great Nanna died 20 years ago is a fairly banal issue.

I’ve noticed that this is a media strategy. The palace can’t refute the bigger stories or won’t & so they try and find any tiny inconsistencies to discredit people. Bully tactics and so obvious that the royal family is ab abusive, passive aggressive, strategic, manipulative, political, and cladestine operations - their PR strategy.

It’s not the palace or the media finding the inconsistencies, it’s people reading the book. It’s a bad day for republicans, isn’t it?

You know what was really racist was making Meghan always stand at the back on the halcyon even though she was shorter. Put the black lady at the back.

Oh and the entire royal family almost, laughing at the cultural differences of a black Religious leader at their wedding & his speech - even in the part about slavery they were laughing.

What has this got to do with this thread?

Which photos do you mean? I have seen several where she, H, W & K are standing and Charles, Camilla, QEII and Philip are sitting. That's a matter of age and rank

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 10/01/2023 18:08

Jesus I think we've got one of those deranged posters that Justine was talking about on the thread.

I think she means balcony. The two words have a couple of letters in common.

There's literally post after post of dated photos.

His entire narrative is that his family didn't care about him. His account of hearing about his GGM's death is cited as evidence of his isolation. It is not a banal issue when contextualised within his agenda in this book to destroy the reputation of his family. The truth is clearly that he was not left in school to cope with this alone, but was in the company of his brother and father on a lovely looking holiday.

I remember very well where I was and how I felt upon the death of my parents, FIL and GFIL. Their deaths were at a similar time to TQM. His failure to remember such a momentous time (both for him personally and for the country) calls into question the veracity of everything he has written.

Your last paragraph is nuts.

@MrsPeachBottom Heres the report from the Swiss Press. Neutrality itself.

The last link i posted, as a stand alone post, has both photos and a discussion with prince harry. And it's dated.

Is he writing "It's Easter Saturday and nasty Daddy and nasty William have gone skiing with a lookalike and left me all alone here at Eton even though everyone else has gone home, as usual they're being beastly to me because I'm Spare. Oh, and great Gran has snuffed it"?

Bollindger · 10/01/2023 18:12

Harry said on Sunday the Royal Family are not Racist, did you not hear him say it, a quick goggle will help you hear it...😎

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 10/01/2023 18:12

He's whinging about the biro.

What I would like to know is what was HIS present to his great aunt that Christmas.

And Willy got a bigger Easter Egg too.

IT'S NOT FAIR.

MrsPeachBottom · 10/01/2023 18:13

What is your defense to being a Journalist/Pr person trolling forums ?

I think in 2002, with no photos or direct statements from the family, that the article is based on, it’s very possible it was reported incorrectly.

I also think that the ‘crazy or a liar’ method of discrediting people is weak and frantically trying to find any way of attacking them is just tired and old.

greenel · 10/01/2023 18:13

@MrsPeachBottom

So, Hazza is taking a stance against racism by selling a £28 book on his penis problems, and what prezzies his great aunt gave him and referring to dead Afghans as chess pieces.

Ok then.

@MrsPeachBottom there is a photo of Meghan in a dark blue outfit on the balcony front and centre right next to the queen !
Honestly you are making yourself look silly now !

BradfordGirl · 10/01/2023 18:14

Ridemeginger · 10/01/2023 17:58

Can you elaborate on this, please?

Harry has established in his memoir that he did not like Margaret at all. I imagine he did not have a big emotional reaction to hearing of her death.

He clearly had a big emotional reaction to hearing of the death of the QM. That news was imparted to him on a ski holiday (nothing like being at school) with his brother and family, probably by his dad (nothing like a phone call from a courtier).

How and why would he have conflated the two instances?

The details get conflated easily. He was a child with two deaths less than two months apart in the family. So getting confused between the two is natural.

It’s that evil twin again.
