Inconsistencies in Spare over hearing about Queen Mother's death

Harry writes that he found out about the Queen Mother's passing away (in March 2002):

"At Eton, while studying, I took the call. I wish I could remember whose voice was on the other end. A courtiers I believe. I recall that is was just before Easter, the weather bright and warm, light slanting through my window, filled with vivid colours. "Your Royal Highness. The Queen Mother has died." "

News reports at the time reported he was skiing in Switzerland with Charles and William. The Queen Mother died on 30 March 2002. Easter Saturday. He wouldn't have been at school.

Recollections may vary, indeed! I doubt very much Harry would have taken the call if he's been with his father.

Didn't the editors do any fact checking?

Endeavours to do what?

Talk about memory?

Discuss a news story?

We’ve noticed. But you don’t even live here, do you?

Not sure where the programmer is resident. No clues from the spelling.

MrsPeachBottom · 11/01/2023 17:11

This thread was very aggressive yesterday and anti Harry and Meghan. It was volatile and incessantly digging up inconsistencies.

Keeps talking about “your” this, that and the other.

Did you even read the thread title? Grin

I don't think the thread is volatile, and it's predominantly about Harry

ThighMistress · 11/01/2023 17:13

When does an inconsistency become a lie?

Lots of non sequiturs too.

The last one was very eager to assure us it was British. This may be a different programme.

Or just talking out of their Peach BottomSmile

Magnoliasunrise · 11/01/2023 17:14

It definitely needs to have the word "memoir" removed in any event.

You can’t dig up what isn’t there.

The book is a best seller for non fiction.

I don’t think that a few minor inconsistencies and mistakes in a book of this length & breadth of time and events will matter.

If it was all about money and he was going to lie he would have made it explosive and dished on the alleged affair

I can’t work out whether you are cross because people are criticising the book or cross because people aren’t criticising the monarchy.

However, for clarity, Harry supports the concept of monarchy.

Ridemeginger · 11/01/2023 17:16

MrsPeachBottom · 11/01/2023 16:56

Okay then fact check away but it doesn’t change much.

At the end of the day this family are clearly deeply troubled & the entire country come off as upholding a racist and sexist institution.

Take a step back…. Another Royal running off to the USA estranged & with mental issues.

we are all meant to believe this family is magical as special.

Harry has said it is not a racist institution. Don't you believe him?

He thinks they have unconscious bias - which incidentally, he thinks all white people have, so if you are white, you are as bad as the RF in Harry's eyes.

As to sexism. Well as the longest reigning monarchs (and extremely successful ones) in history have all been women, that's debatable. They have all been of their time, but have all been revolutionary in significant ways. The late Queen Elizabeth has ensured the throne is no longer confined to the male line. Governments come and go, this institution has managed to weather many storms, as it will no doubt weather this one. A pared down monarchy shedding the spares and lazy hangers on will probably be what comes next. Good on Charles if he does this.

All criticism is literal violence in certain circles who believe in "their truth". Objective truth is violence. Historical fact is violence. Debate is violence.

The irony, the first time I can remember anything like "their truth" coming to prominence was in Trump's early days, with his campaign manager, Kelly Ann Conway coining the phrase, "There are facts and there are alternative facts". In other words, Trump's truth trumps truth. We (lefties like me) all laughed like a drain at their truth twisting. But it didn't take long for the left to adopt the same tactics. And now, it's the load stone of the aggrieved.

Well he has lied and he is getting laid, so this is precisely why people are taking this book as confirmation that there was no affair.

This Thread is aggressively pursuing inconsistencies that are inconsequential to the actual point of the book and message

When you are purporting to set the record straight and reveal the truth, it is pretty fucking consequential if your memoir is full of lies. You might almost say the inaccuracies negate the whole point of the book.

2 dimensional charity speeches

How many dimensions should a speech have?

Somehow, he doesn't look to me like a man getting it on the regular. The kitchen worktops in Casa Montecito must be heaving a great sigh of relief!

lol at the fantasists thinking this is remotely likely to 'bring down the monarchy'
If anything it's strengthened their support and put Harry in an even less favourable position then when Megzit was first triggered. People then thought he was a man at the end of his rope he needed a peaceful private life. Now people think he's a devious demented bitter manchild. Or just a complete prat

GlorianaCervixia · 11/01/2023 20:31

I read the book yesterday (it's a very quick read), mostly because I loved J. R. Moehringer's previous book on Andre Agassi and was hopeful this one would be just as good. It isn't.

Harry repeatedly says in the book that he's writing it because he wants the historical record to be accurate. He imagines children reading it at his old school. I don't expect Harry to be cross-checking every date but it's not much to ask that his publisher do it. Lots of people would have worked on this book and no one thought to do some quick googling? They've let him down by allowing silly errors to get through.

Gosh, how formal. I didn't think their servants called them Your Royal Highness behind closed doors.

You really thought that courtiers called the Queen "Lizzie" when the microphones weren't on? 😂

Emmelina · 11/01/2023 21:46

Fact checking? What facts? There are literally photos of them at Klosters skiing with Charles from that weekend.

I'm going with being drug addled in his teens and 20's have confused him & caused some extreme paranoia. He's already in 2002 admitted smoking cannabis and taking cocaine at 16/17, and Charles took him on a visit to a rehab centre as a short sharp shock (that's been public record for years).

Louise was born in 2003 and James in 2007.

His infamous vegas trip was 2012

so "recollections may vary" between him being 16ish and 28....

What about Princess Anne, and Peter and Zara Philips?!!!
