Inconsistencies in Spare over hearing about Queen Mother's death

Ridemeginger · 10/01/2023 14:52

Harry writes that he found out about the Queen Mother's passing away (in March 2002):

"At Eton, while studying, I took the call. I wish I could remember whose voice was on the other end. A courtiers I believe. I recall that is was just before Easter, the weather bright and warm, light slanting through my window, filled with vivid colours. "Your Royal Highness. The Queen Mother has died." "

News reports at the time reported he was skiing in Switzerland with Charles and William. The Queen Mother died on 30 March 2002. Easter Saturday. He wouldn't have been at school.

Recollections may vary, indeed! I doubt very much Harry would have taken the call if he's been with his father.

Didn't the editors do any fact checking?

Say that Harry is lying about William allegedly (all over foreign media) having an affair ?

Do you have any links to reputable news outlets regarding the potential affair? I wouldn't accept that gossip nonsense was true if it came from the daily mail, so you can't blame people for not believing the Australian equivalent (which is the only link I've seen).

And you can't blame people for not believing Harry more generally when he is inconsistent and gets (easily checked) things wrong. If he got at least the checkable things right he'd have a bit more credibility.

DerangedViper · 11/01/2023 16:13

I'm sure I saw something about this on MN earlier, but can't now find it

But that stooge of the right wing TKMaxx has confirmed that his description of their annual sale is bollocks. They don't have one

www.msn.com/en-gb/lifestyle/style/prince-harry-s-bizarre-tk-maxx-claim-unravels-as-major-uk-retailer-speaks-out-we-don-t/ar-AA16br2z?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=b99e00b945864d58a04c4acde262f8b0

These inconsistencies might be getting reported in the press, but they're being found by the readership.

He can't keep blaming the press - he said this stuff

I don’t get paid for media research so I’m not as quick with links as you are and don’t have the energy.

It was however widely reported and implied in the DM and Sun that there was a ‘rural rivalry’.

Journalsits and celebrities deleted tweets about the affair.

It was widely discussed in Norfolk circles.

There were many overseas publications that wrote about it.

lainey gossip is said to have contacts with the Sussexes and wrote about it.

Blossomtoes · 11/01/2023 16:18

There were many overseas publications that wrote about it.

And yet nobody can provide a link to any of those publications. Strange that, don’t you think?

I believe Harry has now claimed that this particular story, like the supposed false "made Kate cry" story, originated from Camilla's team

the English media didn’t report on it allegedly as they have agreements in place and William sent s legal letter. It was also rumored that’s why he leaked Sussex stories - to bury this.

Matt Hancock's memoirs aren't gone through exhaustively to check for inconsistencies unless I missed that thread.

Then again, his is one of the poorest selling 'bestsellers' of the year, while Harry's has broken records for fastest-selling non-fiction book.

Did many of the people commenting on this thread buy Harry's book?

A lot of people on this thread don't want to line His Royal Whineness' pockets! There will be lots of bargain bin shopping, charity shop browsing, free audible trials and library book reservations.

SirChenjins · 11/01/2023 16:33

Does Hancock claim his book is a “historical record”?

Either way, is MH the official yardstick now by which all other memoirs are measured?

JemimaTiggywinkles · 11/01/2023 16:36

I've never been paid for media research (though I have for scientific), but when I make the claim that something is "all over the foreign media" I make sure I had a link or two to hand to back it up.

It was however widely reported and implied in the DM and Sun that there was a ‘rural rivalry’.

I've never read the DM and cannot stand the s*n. Both got more untrue gossip in them than actual news I expect!

MrsPeachBottom · 11/01/2023 16:37

The book is a best seller for non fiction.

I don’t think that a few minor inconsistencies and mistakes in a book of this length & breadth of time and events will matter.

If it was all about money and he was going to lie he would have made it explosive and dished on the alleged affair

Lovely list. Where’s the link?

MrsPeachBottom · 11/01/2023 16:40

Well the Times aren’t going to publish affair runouts or even a Royal affair unless someone in the room comes out and confessed.

I have listed the foreign media outlets that have written about the alleged affair.

The Sun & daily mail has sub text to the rural rival articles and tweets from journalists backed this up

i Am not posting links, you can easily google rose Hanbury Prince William affair and see the allegations - blanket coverage .

Hello Journalists and Researchers from the conservative right !

Tin foil hat a bit tight, is it? 😂

This inconsistency had already been picked up by the media before I started this thread. That's how I found out about it. Flicking news channels whilst having my lunch break. Took me less than a minute to find a BBC news story from the time of TQM's death that confirmed that the real story contradicted the account in Spare.

And no, I'm not a journalist, a researcher or from the "conservative right", but even if I was, how does that make any difference to the OP? The account doesn't stop being inaccurate if viewed through a left wing lense.

This Thread is aggressively pursuing inconsistencies that are inconsequential to the actual point of the book and message

JemimaTiggywinkles · 11/01/2023 16:48

I googled "yahoo life william affair" and the first paragraph of the article says:

^It’s important to remember in all of this gossip that the Instagram account offers unverified stories, so take what you are about to read with a grain of salt."

Then I googled your next suggestion (new idea) and the website advertises itself as "New Idea: Celebrity News and Gossip" so I'm not believing anything they've written.

"celebitchy" rather speaks for itself, as does "lainey gossip".

The last on your list carried out an investigation which seemed to consist of quoting the s*n, daily mail (neither of which can be trusted) and a Giles Coren tweet - which I believe he retracted and said was a joke.

I honestly wouldn't know either way if William has had an affair. But the way some Harry supporters are so certain it is true is bizarre. Harry goes on and on about how the media lies, so to support him in that and yet believe what the tabloids say about William is inconsistent.

This whole board is pursuing the numerous inconsistencies both in the book, the Netflix series, the Oprah interview and the interviews these last couple of days. Harry has not served himself well, cannot keep a straight story, has serious recollection issues; and comes across at best as a puerile penis obsessed man child, and at worst as a misogynist bully boy. Whatever the intended point and message of the book is, it's been lost, and he's only got himself to blame.

Not at all - when the book is presented as a historical record and his opportunity to tell the world what really happened then it’s absolutely going to be fact checked. Unless you’re expecting the world to simply nod sympathetically, ancce his word as gospel and not question anything he’s written?

DerangedViper · 11/01/2023 16:54

bakalava · 11/01/2023 10:38

No regular teenage boy sits there keeping tabs on the birth rates of his wider family.

So by that reckoning, he wouldn't have known it had stopped either. Because he wouldn't have been keeping tabs

Instead there's a misrepresentation.

I think this one is a harmless one. Other than it showing yet again that you can't take him at his word

MrsPeachBottom · 11/01/2023 16:56

Okay then fact check away but it doesn’t change much.

At the end of the day this family are clearly deeply troubled & the entire country come off as upholding a racist and sexist institution.

Take a step back…. Another Royal running off to the USA estranged & with mental issues.

we are all meant to believe this family is magical as special.

Another generation, another alleged cheating Prince of Wales shrouded in affair Rumours, another generation of very thin wives who are muzzled and made to look good in clothes & make 2 dimensional charity speeches for the cameras, another generation of siblings that are unhappy and troubled like those before them & had. To stuff their feelings down.
