I think this is all much more about money than he is admitting

Harry is jealous of his brother and will do whatever it takes to destroy him. If Harry cant be King or the Emperor of the Commonwealth then no one can.

Zuve · 14/01/2023 09:30

Well, I would get a big solicitor to write to this self entitled pair and warn them to shut up or get shut out

Can people not see the this is the result of living in a gilded cage? His whole life has been under scrutiny. He could never really just go and use public transport, or get drunk in wetherspoons. GFs have been driven away. He has been controlled his whole life, by the institution (which is concerned with the existence of a royal family rather than the individuals). All this expectation that he never asked for. He can't now go and live a normal life, he will need significant sums of money for his own protection simply due to the family he comes from. How long before people wake up to the fact that growing up as the heir or sibling of one is just child abuse. Good for Harry for escaping it. I hope he can find some peace.

Nah, most of the other royals are fine. I'll grant you that spares have a harder time (Andrew anyone?) and Harry suffered through a traumatic event losing his mother at that age but he made his own choices and he needs to take responsibility for his own actions. Being a royal is not easy but it also comes with castles, palaces, travel, invitations to any event you want. Don't be tricked by H&M, they're looking for money and revenge, not freedom.

You don't think it's wrong for children to be brought up in extreme limelight, with all that expectation? Knowing some life choices are just absolutely out the question? He couldn't just be a normal young man, having normal flings, eating a kebab at 2am after clubbing and working in Tesco could he. Yes, it is abusive for anyone in this country to not be free to just live their lives. He had no choice in his 'celebrity.' it's awful and don't know how Kate and William can willingly inflict that madness on their own family.

Harry seems to have done plenty of stuff without scrutiny, getting stoned/drunk etc. Kate, William and their family do plenty of stuff without scrutiny - they're photographed on official occasions but pretty much left alone the rest of the time.

Meghan quite obviously doesn't have a clue what the Commonwealth's about (tbh neither does Harry) and the idea that she has much in common is absurd.

Shelefttheweb · 14/01/2023 11:07

He was a pretty normal young man for his social set though - went out clubbing, getting drunk/stoned, attending parties, having flings, holidays with his mates, taking part in sport. His sport might have been polo not football, his holidays more frequent and out of reach for most young men, and the drinks bill from clubbing the average 20 year olds annual wage but it would have been pretty normal for those his mixed with. We have seen glimpses of this but most of it we didn’t see.

  1. Neither Meghan nor Harry understand how the Commonwealth works or they would not have called it Empire 2.0.
  2. Meghan is American and has very little in common with the people of the Commonwealth. She has no understanding of the system of government, the laws, the different cultures. I have lived in 3 different Commonwealth countries and in the US and I can tell you there are BIG differences between the two systems and in attitudes.
  3. Agree giving the roles they wanted would be less chaos for the BRF but would not serve the Commonwealth.

You have broken the Mumsnet assumption that all posters are white and middle class.

Liorae · 15/01/2023 12:16

I should have said aspire to be viewed as middle class.

Yes, I think that is sort of right.
Harry wanted half in and half out and he's after as much money as he can get in compensation.
Harry is used to being the second child and being spoilt to make up for the fact that he might be upset about not being King.

TizerorFizz · 15/01/2023 14:29

@Coucous
Can the ordinary folk in Caribbean countries aspire to Megan’s money and behaviour too? The world view should not be about colour alone!

Hairday · 15/01/2023 18:27

Honestly confused about h&m's position re commonwealth. They want to "acknowledge the past". Does that mean giving back the land stolen from indigenous people? Unlikely. Substantial compensation for stolen land? No, probably not. What then? And how does them swanning into senior positions for reasons of birth do anything to right past wrongs? Seems empty to me.

TizerorFizz · 15/01/2023 21:36

@Hairday They mean pontificating from on high and believe they are best at doing that because of Meghan. Why else would they be so arrogant about what they want? Basically they have nothing to offer at all.

Thanks, I hadn’t seen this

Even from this it states they asked to see it before they ‘could respond’ so again, I don’t see anything wrong with it. I wouldn’t comment on something I hadn’t seen either.

They didn’t randomly ask for it, it was in response to a request for comment.
As I’ve posted, the CBS website stated this was requested before airing, so sounds like this report has just got the timing wrong. I know it was addressed on air though, maybe that’s where the confusion has come from?

TizerorFizz · 15/01/2023 22:40

I don’t know. I’m not the Telegraph snd I don’t know their sources. They seemed to suggest it was comments about other Royal children that triggered the request.

Sounds like speculation to me, as it wouldn’t make sense for them to request it before airing, be denied, and then request it agin.

Or maybe they would? No idea.
All in all, seems like a bit of a nothing story, as both sources are stating it was in relation to request for comment

Watching them both express what they want. Harry so articulate. He wants charity and humanitarian work in Africa and to be normal. He reiterates even at this young age he feels abnormal.

I don't think Meghan wants to live in Africa.

From what he has said, Harry like the simplicity of village life and the outdoor pursuits. He said he had dreamed of living there and raising Archie in that climate and with the experience of the way of life there. Of all the Royal Family, for generations before, he is probably the one who has loved the continent the most.

Megan seems to like luxury and famous friends. They aren't on the same page with their goals.

Meghan is like Diana, in that respect. Diana liked yacht holidays, shopping for designer goods and being seen with A list people. Harry is more like his Dad - into the countryside and conservation.

All this conflict H and M are wrapped up in does, for now, give them a shared experience and bond.

Havehope21 · 19/01/2023 08:14

I think he thinks he is blackmailing them but a lot of his 'truth' has been shown to best 'interpretation' and at worst, damn right lies. He is an unreliable narrator and in a year or two people will be bored of them both. They are rather tone deaf in today's climate and his Messiah complex is rather grating. He had no right to comment on William and Kate's parenting so publicly.

diddl · 19/01/2023 09:17

I think that he has shown that he'll mention anything at all!

Whether he thinks that that is enough to get them to "capitulate" or whether he actually has anything that he could "blackmail" them with-who knows?

TizerorFizz · 19/01/2023 16:24

Meghan won’t live in Africa! They will
just do “white person giving charity” photo shoots! He can dream on about living there.
