The royal family

So the Royal Family isn’t racist?

Harrysfrostbittentodger · 08/01/2023 23:09

That’s what I took from Harry’s recent interview. That they didn’t accuse the royal family of being racist in the Oprah interview?!

How are other people viewing this?

I thought Kim Kardashian has the same heritage - whatever that may be, I don’t really care or need to know they are all just American to me - yet apparently Kim was slammed for culturally appropriating by presenting like a black person.

who is writing the rule book?

Thing is, Harry’s now shown (again) that recollections may not just vary, his vary every time he recollects something (or attempts to - it’s becoming rather obvious he can’t clearly recollect anything). I mean, you could demonstrate extremely rapidly that he would constitute an unreliable witness to absolutely anything these days using just his own words…Maybe if he’d laid off the weed a bit his cognitive function might’ve improved….

Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm a long-term member of MN, who started with the feminism board.

When I first came to this particular place I met with aggression and was hounded off in a feeding frenzy (to use H's words!) because I was voiced some negative views of M. I was suspicious very early on (though initially rejoicing because H was bringing some melanin into the family!). MNers came after me with pitchforks! It's good to see the tide is turning here, or has turned. That's why I'm back.

It didn't take long to see that marrying H was an upward-power-move by MM: you only have to see her wedding guestlist to know that! And all the talk about star-power! She didn't know that royalty is not about star power and popularity at all, and joining the RF does not automatically make you a Hollywood A lister. You need talent for that.

Ngozi's account of the conversation is still only hearsay. We have one person's account of what was said, and no proof. Yet Lady S was hounded out of her job.

A further person who deserves scrutiny is Doria, who in the NF mockumentary again brought up the whole "RF is racist" allegations, along with fake tears.
So Doria, too, went along with the nonsense, which means that Doria too has been thrown under the bus by Harry.

These people need to get their stories straight. I can't believe there are still people defending them.

Maybe I'll stick around for a while.

Ngozi's account of the conversation is still only hearsay. We have one person's account of what was said, and no proof. Yet Lady S was hounded out of her job.

Er, that's not correct. There were several who heard the conversation, that's why Lady S left, didn't have a racist leg to stand on. Please don't spread far right lies which have resulted in obscene racist abuse online of Ngozi.

As the parent of a mixed raced child, this thread is utterly depressing....

KK is Armenian American on her father’s side. Meghan is African American on her mother’s side.

African/Armenian - what’s the difference right?

Discussion of just how black a mixed race person is - is deeply ignorant as well as offensive.

Tell that to my friend who for 9 months hoped ( and talked about) how she her child would be a mixture of both skin types to reflect both parents. Both families talked about it not as rascism at all and certainly not offesnisve to anyone .
Her wish was granted btw....

Presumably you didn’t intentionally miss the point. But on here, who knows.

Nope I did not ... But as you say often on here commesnts get misunderstood so maybe I mis understood yours .........

Mirabai · 10/01/2023 12:56

I didn’t say that…

Mezmer · 10/01/2023 12:56

Sorry why have I depressed you? I apologise if I have but I cannot for a moment think why stating that I’m not bothered what heritage someone is can be at all offensive. No one is allowed to ask the question anymore so how is it a bad thing to take people at face value?

Wheresthebeach · 10/01/2023 12:58

I think its a good example of how they spin everything. In the Oprah interview its very clear what MM was implying, now Harry saying they never suggested it is just bizarre.

Their version of events clearly changes according to the latest whim.

That's odd I always feel gaslighted when someone tells me she's birracial as if to correct something I'm saying. She's also white. I'm birracial and brown. Yes, there's a difference.

A friend of mine who is biracial and brown and had a brother who was biracial and white has described similar feelings to me. She’s had some really challenging experiences. One example: They were repeatedly spate at when out together as teens by other teens - when their difference in skin tone clearly led to assumptions that they were a couple. Both because he appeared to have chosen to go out with someone with her skin tone and the other way round because she appeared to have chosen to go out with someone of his skin tone.

On the OW interview M&H said that there were questions about the colour of the baby.

Asked about it again, H said he felt it was indicative of “unconscious bias”.

No more no less was said than that.

The OW interview very clearly implied that this conversation was because of racism. If they meant to suggest otherwise, they have had plenty of time to apologise for their lack of clarity.

SighsTheNewWord · 10/01/2023 13:29

I would actually leave a thread/topic and hide it even, if it bothers me so much, rather than try to close down the conversation for others or continue to stay and traumatise myself.

Not sure why posters do this or even feel the need to post it as though they have no choice.

Wheresthebeach · 10/01/2023 13:48

H&M accepted an award from Kerry Kennedy for their 'heroic' stance against structural racism of the Royal Family.

If they don't think the RF is racist they should have refused the award.

The implications in the OW interview are clear - if they felt the press misrepresented it then they have had ample time and opportunity to say so following the interview. They stayed silent, well...accept for accepting the Kennedy's award.

They said what they said. And the media decided what they meant.

Unconscious bias is a form of racism - but it’s not the upfront/intentional/ conscious type.

Then they really should have corrected the narrative, shouldn't they (since that's so important to them)? Silence makes you complicit/is betrayal/so on and so forth.

They knew exactly what Oprah was going to do with that, they knew exactly what the media was going to do with it; that's why they did it.

They wanted/needed power and money. They monetised the situation to their advantage. Harold threw his family under the bus (or should that be 'FED them to the wolves), for money. And probably also out of anger and spite.

They shouldn't have accepted that award directly on the back of their 'revelation'.

If they'd come out and said to Oprah that the main reason they'd left was because he'd/they'd thrown a colossal hissy fit it wouldn't have been nearly as profitable to them. They dangled the 'racism' to create maximum interest in their coming projects.

TangledWebOfDeception · 10/01/2023 14:34

(Quotations relate to this specific context - racism/not racism/'we didn't say the word racist' etc. Not a comment on validity or otherwise of racism as a concept!)

Have you ever tried “correcting the narrative” with the British media? Harry tried putting out a statement when their relationship first went public in 2016 - requesting an end to the racism M was receiving - “Straight Outta Compton” etc and that had precisely zero effect. Why would this be any different?

It’s interesting (by which I mean tedious) that you know exactly what 2 people are thinking, doing etc etc despite never having met either of them.
