You wrote a book and you didn't have your lawyer go through it to protect you and think of the consequences.

You write a book, and now you might not get a visa to stay in the USA. Meanwhile, Megs is in the USA with your kids ...across the pond. And in the future, if you were to split, your book will condemn you as to how stable you are in a custody battle. Wake up wake up wake up.

What a load of rubbish, someone else desperate that they will split

MandyMotherOfBrian · 08/01/2023 09:30

What’s the relevance to getting a visa? The drugs thing?

Rainbowqueeen · 08/01/2023 09:37

Yea the drugs thing. No idea if talk of him being denied a visa is just a media beat up or a genuine possibility.

wordler · 08/01/2023 09:37

Yes - he already has a visa presumably otherwise he wouldn’t be able to live there but when you apply for most permanent visas - definitely the spousal one which leads to a greencard they make you do a medical and the doctor asks you about drug use - for regular people if you admit to any previous drug use you normally get your visa denied.

Also if you have any history of serious alcohol use they can ask you to go through a year of regular testing before they let you immigrate.

The big thing with American immigration though is if you lie to them. If you are found to have lied on any forms in the past they can take away your greencard or prevent you from getting your citizenship down the line.

Celebrities and other VIPs often have the rules ‘bent’ for them though which wouldn’t happen for regular people.

There have been some celebrities banned from the USA for drug use though I think.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 08/01/2023 09:37

Because if so, a six year old has just deliberately shot their teacher in Virginia, but a few magic mushrooms make you the kind of dangerous delinquent they want to keep out? Yeah, makes total sense 🙄

wordler · 08/01/2023 09:47

Here you go - Nigella Lawson admitted drug use in a court trial (she wasn’t the one on trial) and US immigration and border control used that information even though she has no actual convictions for any drug related issues to stop her boarding a plane for the US.

amp.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2014/apr/03/nigella-lawson-stopped-boarding-flight-us-cocaine-confession

If I recall she later managed to overturn the ban and get back to the USA for a work thing.

I think while Harry is in the USA he will be okay but if someone wants to cause problems if he leaves the country he could have problems returning. US government might not want to cause waves with UK government though.

Swissmountains · 08/01/2023 09:48

Actually you are right.

A visa can now be denied to him, the US law is very clear about drug taking/use.

Yes by moving to the US in the first place he has severely compromised his access to his children should his marriage dissolve and he wishes to seek support, care and a life back in the UK with his family. He has no other reason to remain in the US, he has no family, friends, work or future in the US beyond his wife.

He is over a barrel and some.

I don't think the UK government would care if the US start making life difficult for Harry. It might mean he can't fly out of the US anytime soon, should he be denied re entry, maybe that was part of the attraction who knows?!

It is not being nasty to point our legalities nor to consider the precarious position Harry is now in from almost every angle. He does seem to be incredibly naive/ill informed.

kirinm · 08/01/2023 09:52

@Swissmountains you think the OP actually gives a shit about Harry / his children / his relationship? No. It's all about taking pleasure in his potential downfall.

But accurate he has left himself wide open the royal family cannot and will not take on the USA especially as he has been such a dick to them lately he is out of there protection and out of everyone's control he might just face consequences this time (probably won't)

DuplicateUserName · 08/01/2023 09:54

Someone else who thinks Harry's a Mumsnetter 🙄

StarsSand · 08/01/2023 09:56

What absolute nonsense.

Lots of people take drugs in their youth. The Rolling Stones fly in and out of the US. If Keith Richards is allowed into America, Harry will be fine.

Menomenon · 08/01/2023 09:58

I really can’t believe that a UK lawyer went through this draft on Harry’s behalf. Plenty of the publisher’s lawyers will have gone through it on their behalf. Harry is too stupid to protect himself, despite being obsessed with protection.

minticecreamisjustok · 08/01/2023 10:00

When he realises what an embarrassment this is, he'll try saying he was tricked into writing this book waah waah

Exactly.

OP is talking utter tosh.

Honestly, no it’s not. Harry absolutely should have had someone looking out for his best interests based on the huge amount of personal information in this book. The downsides of what he is revealing may never have occurred to him, but someone should have been making those checks for him.

Based on what’s been reported in the Press over the last few days I am genuinely horrified at Penguin Random House who appear to have taken the view that anything goes as long as they make their money. The book has come out with information that can make him a target for a violent regime, with information that can put his visa status at risk - they even let him put in that he mocked a disabled staff member at his primary school to make his schoolmates laugh for heaven’s sake. He may have wanted to do a tell-all, but who was there to protect his best interests in this process. It’s awful.

stitchinguru · 08/01/2023 10:07

Any legal people around….
Does saying to someone ‘If you say sorry, I’ll drop the charges’ constitute perverting the course of justice? (re an allegation of ‘common assault’).

stitchinguru · 08/01/2023 10:07

Sorry - mispost. Ignore

JamMakingWannaBe · 08/01/2023 10:09

Aren't the drug rules different for working versus residential visas though?

No. Hope that helps.

DogBowlsAreMyWeapon · 08/01/2023 10:12

I wonder if he’s “safe” for the time being due to being counsellor of state - doesn’t that come with diplomatic immunity?

But were that to be pulled…

He’s been a total fucking fud.

Feelallright · 08/01/2023 10:13

I too was surprised he admitted to the drugs thing -because of the visa thing to get back into the US. I thought it was common knowledge. I immediately thought of Nigella Lawson and what happened to her.

Rickandmortified100 · 08/01/2023 10:17

I think it’s you who needs to wake up if you think that he will be denied a visa over this 😂 He’s literally royalty and a millionaire. Laws work differently for people like that.
