Harry reveals Charles carries a teddy because of childhood bullying

According to Maureen Callahan, Harry writes that Charles takes his childhood teddy bear everywhere due to the emotional scars he bears from childhood bullying.

As she writes: "Know what's pitiful? Taking the private pain and vulnerabilities of those closest to you, [and] mocking them for public consumption and profit."

That is not Harry's story to tell. It is Charles. It is intensely private.

Furthermore, I don't want to know that William is circumcised, how or where or why Harry lost his virginity, that H is fixated on his "mummy", that he thinks Meghan is "magic" and why, none of it.

Harry is intensely sick. The resentments he harbors, the overwhelming jealousy, the rage, the appalling lack of character and intellect. He’s really showing himself up.

Elegant Tubsy Grin

It's so obvious from the stories on this thread how fundamentally important our childhood comfort 'toys' are, their longevity (in our hearts if not actually physically) and the part they play in our memories. It makes me wonder if Harry had/has a teddy.

Agree, @BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers

The story about the bear and the bullying reflects really badly on Charles' parents. Did they know any of this? Did they accept it as normal? Did they instead marry off a damaged 30 something year old man to a nineteen year old?

The bear thing was covered in a biography of Charles released last year, and was widely reported on.

StClare101 · 07/01/2023 23:50

The Queen and Prince Philip kept him at a school where he was being bullied for six years. A boarding school, where he has no escape from his tormentors.

My Mum threw away my comfort blanket. I still remember wretchedly searching for it for hours. I turned my pillow case into a secret one to cope. Still have an old pillow case that I snuggle under my nose when I’m tired and sad. Not ashamed to say it but it is such a private thing for me. I don’t blame my Mum -she was section when I was 10 - but I still feel the damage of this and much else. My parents made many mistakes due to their damage but clearly loved me to the best of their ability - they didn’t mean to damage me.

It's the first time though that I've seen it linked to his being bullied at Gordonstoun and thus significance to him.

What makes that OK for Harry to mention in a book about "his truth"? Why would it be important?

To be fair, we don’t know that Harry’s book links the bear to bullying (Maureen Callahan does that in her article, but it’s not clear whether she is drawing that link herself or whether Harry does).

A relative nursed him in Scotland when he had pneumonia as a teenager. She said he had no visitors

A quick Google shows a photo of the queen visiting Charles in hospital. The image does appear to be of somewhere in Aberdeen (recognisable architecture! ) so just because your relative didn't see anyone during his/her shift clearly doesn't mean "he had no visitors"

Luckyducker · 08/01/2023 00:05

I don't even agree with having a royal family but, my god, Harry needs to shut up.

You should read the Velveteen Rabbit! It's a lovely book about just what you have described.

Still have my childhood copy

midsomermurderess · 08/01/2023 00:24

Harry is a malicious little bastard. So many puerile, spiteful jibes at his father and brother.

garlicandsapphires · 06/01/2023 16:04

I want to know why William is circumcised and Harry isn’t.

Harry is hence the frostbitten tadger.

Sugarfree23 · 08/01/2023 00:38

Charles teddy🧸.
I actually think its quite sweet. The guy travels so much sleeping in different places it must be nice to have something familiar. He deals with so many people, and always needs to keep a smile, I bet that teddy hears all the good and all the shite that happens in a day. And never repeats a word. Just like lots of people pour there heart out to their dog or cat but it's not practical for live animals to travel like that.

For what its worth one of the hotel chains Travel lodge or Premier Inn used to advertise they did cuddle pillows with one arm because so many people don't like sleeping in bed alone!!

BradfordGirl · 08/01/2023 01:18

I think it is a sign of his deeply dysfunctional childhood.

vera99 · 08/01/2023 02:29

Crikey all this faux concern for somebody nobody knows here whilst the country goes to the dogs and some of our people go hungry and cold to bed tonight. What you sow ye shall reap and that's whats happening here. I blame the parents all of them. Abdicate and all this nonsense begone. Enough is enough this is the 21st Century time for a Republic.

You know, you keep posting about people with dysfunctional families like they are pariah deserving your judgement. If your family is as perfect as you repeatedly suggest, count yourself fortunate. You did nothing at all except win the birth family lottery. No one dealing with family difficulties needs you crowing about it like it’s a badge of shame or something we caused.

Perhaps your brother can write a book about his “todger” so you can get some perspective and empathy.

Faux concern, faux righteous judgement. What’s the difference? You are here posting along with everyone else. Perhaps take your own advice and focus on something you deem important.

daretodenim · 08/01/2023 05:35

I hadn't heard anything about Charles' teddy until now. So even if it was previously published, Harry's inclusion of it has brought it to a whole new and far wider audience.

I told DD9 last night about this. She's heard boys and bobs about Harry and wanted to know what's going on. So this teddy story was a good one. Gave the outline of being bullied at a school he couldn't escape from, the sort of school it was, and then Harry in Lodi g it in his book.

"But Mummy, that means he's bullying his dad." She said with a pained look on her face.

Then she said she'd never ever do that to me.

If a child can get the issue with it that quickly, how could a so called mental health champion not figure it out?

Justine has said in the Telegraph today that the anti Meghan sentiment on here is deranged. Quite.
