Meghan WAS banned from Balmoral after Queen’s death

In his book, Harry also claims that his father told him that Meghan should not come to Balmoral. The Queen was staying at her Scottish estate when she died last September.

The prince wrote: "Then my father called again. He told me I was welcome at Balmoral, but… without her. He started to explain his reasons, but they didn't make any sense at all, and it was disrespectful as well. I did not tolerate it from him.

"Don't even think about talking about my wife like that.

"Repentant, he said, stammering, that he simply didn't want the place to be full of people. Nobody's wife was going to go, not even Kate, he told me, so Meg shouldn't either."

I knew this at the time via a connection and I told everyone under a different username and everyone laughed and called me a liar!!!!!

JimDixon · 05/01/2023 20:50

Quite right too! She'd shown by then she can't be trusted.

And besides, Kate didn't go either.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 05/01/2023 20:50

I thought it was common knowledge? It seemed a sensible thing to do.

SnottyLottie · 05/01/2023 20:50

@Legrandetraitor i think I actually remember that at the time! We owe you an apology 🥰

How is it sensible? When my DHs grandmother died partners were welcome. That is usual.

Thank you! And OP!

What am I missing?

if it applied to Kate too why a problem specifically??

Masterion · 05/01/2023 20:53

But he still went.

StormObelisk · 05/01/2023 20:54

Good decision imo.

CoffeeBoy · 05/01/2023 20:54

So Harry hears this from his dad and “doesn’t take it well”. Which means to me while Charles is coping with his mother dying he’s having to put up with Harold yabbering at him about how Megs should be allowed up. What a twat.

Blondbombsite · 05/01/2023 20:54

I think that’s fair. Charles’ mother had just died and his whole life was about to change. Having someone there who things were tense with (to say the least) would have been a bad idea and Harry shouldn’t have tried to include her. Especially after he says that he and William had had a stand up row after his father’s funeral.

cyclamenqueen · 05/01/2023 20:55

‘He did not tolerate it’ from a man who had just lost his mother and had become king, an incredibly emotional moment however prepared you may be. Anne looked distraught were they not entitled to have who they wanted there. Who the hell did Harry think he was, what did he think it was, a ceilidh

Maybe their partners were loved members of the family. Maybe they respected the dying relative and wanted to be there to support their partner. Maybe the family didn't think of Megan in this way! When someone dies any 'spectators' shouldn't be there

And when my dad died partners weren’t welcome

and you know what, neither my situation or yours are relevant. Different people want different things and some people would want immediate family only. I couldn’t think of anything worse than grandkids in law skulking about the house when I was dying, especially ones I didn’t know very well and especially ones who keep selling stuff to the media.

marcopront · 05/01/2023 20:56

I thought he wasn't allowed to make edits after the queen died

Speedweed · 05/01/2023 20:57

Meagain had no particular connection or fondness for the queen, and they knew she'd only be there for the publicity, and probably filming/ making notes for a book just like this at such an intensely private time. Can you blame a grieving family for not wanting a demanding in-law to be one of first to rush in?

Presumably your dh grandmother wasn’t a monarch in the public eye with a few family relationship problems.

And?

Not all families are the same you know.

I also thought we all knew this at the time , not a surprise in the slightest that was want invited. Only someone with a rhino hide would think otherwise in their situation

Edinburghmusing · 05/01/2023 20:53

I think Kate stayed away tactically so it didn’t look like only Meghan was being excluded. And Meghan was excluded because everybody hated her and therefore it would have been utterly inappropriate!

Madamecastafiore · 05/01/2023 20:58

Of course she wasn't, she's shown she couldn't be trusted not to run off at the mouth and it would have caused immense amounts of stress during a dreadful time when Charles was losing his mother. I'd have banned Harry too.

LivelyBlake · 05/01/2023 20:58

His father had just lost his mum and Harry picks a fight with him . A fight about a woman that hates his family and what they represent. What did she want to do in Balmoral anyway? Take some pics for Netflix?

People’s responses to me at the time showed that it was not known/believed that this was the case!

BradfordGirl · 05/01/2023 20:52

So because your dh family chose to do this it’s ‘usual’ . Surely every family of different and their responses will be personal to them. Losing a parent is not a spectacle for onlookers it’s a deeply personal experience . This family had to share every moment from then on with the public , this was their last time together with privacy .

SchrodingersKettle · 05/01/2023 20:59

Charles stumbles on his words when his mum just died… big news.

where is Harry’s empathy, this man who is supposed to be so into his mental health stuff? Charles just lost his mum

The word “banned” seems an extreme nd deliberate interpretation of events.

“we are keeping it to immediate family as it’s difficult day for everyone” doesn’t translate to “Your wife IS BANNED”. I reckon everyone is entitled to strong feelings the day their mum dies. And excluding someone from coming to express sympathy, someone who slagged off you and your family on international TV - well I think you’re entitled to say don’t come, you just don’t want to deal with it right now, when your mum just died.

so even if the words or intent were a ban, then so what? I wouldn’t have welcomed Meghan in Charles’ position, not on that day.
