I know there are loads of threads, but thought it may be useful to set up a bookclub thread ahead of the release date fir those interested. I've ordered the audiobook as struggling to find time to read at the moment but love I can listen to an Audiobook while cooking etc

I think in Harry mind he is bringing the monarchy into account so it can begin a fresh. He in many respects has a saviour complex from tackling racism (which he’s guilty of), sexism (his language around some women in the book is dreadful), media intrusion (the irony). It’s easy for him to call Camilla a villain but if someone wrote the same about Diana who herself became a third person in relationships his outrage would be instant.

TBH this has Meghan written all over it.

Aspiringmatriarch · 12/01/2023 13:46

That digested read is hilarious!

Blossomtoes · 12/01/2023 13:47

It certainly is.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 12/01/2023 14:46

Anyone else gobsmacked by Chapter 64, Part 3?

A few days before Archie is born, William angrily tells Harry that Camilla has planted stories about his family. "They've done this to me for the last time." William says. Harry remembers a confrontation over other stories, including one about him planted to distract from a story about her own son. William and Harry confronted Charles then, who said, well, Granny has Angela (Kelly) so why shouldn't I have someone to plant stories for me?

This family is utterly nuts.

Inkanta · 12/01/2023 14:58

Crikey. Charles and Camilla are buggars and William at the receiving end too of these sneaky leaks.

MissMarpleRocks · 12/01/2023 15:00

Apart from I’ve just read on another thread, that Harry says it’s not necessarily the truth, just his truth, so could quite well be made up or real or exaggerated.

That’s a problem, I think, when you admit to playing fast & loose with the truth.

MissMarpleRocks · 12/01/2023 15:01

But I could well believe they leak btw but I’m saying it may not be true just because Harry said it is.

Chapter 26 'The one where Chandler Harry Throws Angela under the Bus of Bitterness'

Aarrgghh!! and again 'People' and Stories' what fucking people and what fucking stories! Jeez it's not that difficult.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 12/01/2023 12:53

That’s the best thing I have read in this silly pantomime of “truths”.

I love they way he mocks and mimics the atrocious writing style.

Reads like clunky teenage texts … surprised it’s not littered with 🍆🕶🐴😭🦭😤🤬

I was being vague so as not to spoil it for those reading, he does mention the stories.

Also in Chapter 70, he gives a whole litany of stories about Meghan that he complained about, because they had a racist element. He gives chapter and verse!

WanttoFit · 12/01/2023 15:58

@Inkanta you mean people who spy or bug (although slightly different from people who leak), right?

MrsMaxDeWinter · 12/01/2023 16:33

The Wasp, the Bee and the Fly.

Yikes. The courtiers.

👍🏻Gotcha

Well, that certainly sounds like it could be more interesting and much more recent so likely memory recall won’t be so problematic.

Tbf he's done that for lots of books. He's very clever but it's not necessarily a judgement on the quality or content of the writing.

It must be a very challenging writing task for the ghost writer to capture the “voice” of PH …. which IMHO from seeing him in interviews and NF is largely immature, bleating, confused, entitled, deluded, arrogant, grandiose and off-putting…….

How are some of you managing to listen to the audiobook?! How anyone can bear to read/listen to hours of this utter drivel I don't know.

I mean I laughed at that because just WTF? Had to listen to it again today to check I hadn't gone mad and imagined it..

StormzyinaTCup · 12/01/2023 17:55

@ArseInTheDogBowl 😁

Couldn't resist @StormzyinaTCup, made me laugh no end this week after a tough week at work 😂

lippylippy · 12/01/2023 18:11

@ArseInTheDogBowl OMG that is, erm, odd.

ArseInTheDogBowl · 12/01/2023 18:12

@lippylippy it's disturbing, isn't it 🤢

beatrice14 · 12/01/2023 20:30

I ordered the book but haven't got it yet. I feel really sorry for Harry on one hand. On the other I am disgusted by his proclamations of being feminist and anti-racist and blaming his racist behaviour on being sheltered! I agree with CoCoMist that his language about women (especially the poor Ludgrove matron) is hardly feminist. He seems to have a madonna/whore attitude where Diana and Meghan are idolised but other women objectified. Presumably his unconvincing embrace of feminism is to please Meghan.

'Revenge' and apparently 'Spare' both describe violence against people with much less power to retaliate, and we know he used to visit strip clubs. I was on Datalounge a while ago and they suggested that an October 26 2020 Blind Gossip item about a famous son behaving violently to sex workers was about him, although of course it could be a malicious lie or about someone else. (MN haven't allowed me to link to it)
