What is Harry trying to achieve?

On the one hand he says he wants his brother and father back but on the other hand he is selling his story to the highest bidder like some Z-list celebrity.

How does he think this will end?

It's all so messed up

Chersfrozenface · 05/01/2023 16:14

Money. That's his job now, whining for cash.

Coronateachingagain · 05/01/2023 16:16

A new economic and ego enhancing deal in exchange for keeping quiet!

So much of this resonates with me. DHs brother is the same. We’ve never done anything to him.
He hates what he does, but it was his choice entirely(still earns more than DH) and married someone money obsessed but unwilling to work. He absolutely seems intent on our ‘downfall’ all the time. Often telling lies about us to relatives and trying to cause drama.
He also acted as if the death of their parents should only affect him and not DH at all (DH close to them, he wasn’t at all).
He seems utterly wrapped up in his hatred, and yet at the same time thinks we should be obsessed with his life and utterly adore him.
Bitterness is a dangerous emotion.

I have a similar situation in my family with my brother. All I could think of was 'yep been there'. I feel so sad for the RF. This shit should have been dealt with in private and I'm not sure what H&M's motive is for putting it out there but it is a very destructive action. If they have an ounce of self awareness I hope thay they feel sorry that they have both destroyed relationships in both their families.

the80sweregreat · 05/01/2023 16:21

I'm the first to say he shouldn't have done this , but his late mum and his dad and his uncle have all given interviews in the past and collaborated on various books too : this isn't really anything new. Maybe just on a slightly bigger platform.
It's sad that the others can't answer back though
There arnt any winners here really. Just more heartache.

purpleme12 · 05/01/2023 16:22

Exactly. No winners anymore.
But the more comes out, just the worse it all is

Cuppasoupmonster · 05/01/2023 16:22

snapdragon12 · 05/01/2023 13:13

money! Doesn't want to be in the family. Not qualified for owt else!

This, basically. What else can they do to earn money? All people want from them is to know about the RF. People won’t mix with them for a gong any more for obvious reasons…

Lindy2 · 05/01/2023 16:23

Money - at whatever cost to himself or others.

Whowhatwherewhenwhynow · 05/01/2023 16:25

I assume, as someone else told me, it must be money. I can’t see the book achieving anything else.

Im not bothered one way or the other by any of the royal family, but I can’t imagine this book would do anything but harm to them all.

He’s obviously having some massive crisis and has lost all sense of himself and all perspective on what actual hardship is.

I think he’s surrounded himself by a load of new people and is essentially having an existential rebirth and rejecting his whole past and constructing his new self with the help of therapists and publicists. And presumably he and those around him want to make as much money as possible while he does it.

He is very misguided but I seems quite vulnerable. I feel sorry for him in some ways.

This is a great post, and you've perfectly articulated what I have been thinking for ages. It is totally a rebirth around a new set of people, with opinions and outlooks which were alien to him before. And he's fully embraced it to such a degree he's lost all sense of normalcy and rationale.

I also agree he seems vulnerable. I think he's ultimately a really lovely person. Him and Meghan are clearly really in love. I don't think they've done anything intentionally wrong. But they've reacted with such emotion and it's all gone so crazy and out of hand, he is now in this irreversible position, which I think will actually damage him more.

I'm very intrigued how he will reflect on this in a few years time.

Thearex · 05/01/2023 16:27

Harry has been played like a fiddle by the highest bidder....

I read earlier on here a poster say that this was his 'Ratner' moment, and I truly think it is. He has yet to hit rock bottom, but, sadly when he does, I don't think he will not know what has hit him.

Regardless of the PR, if you want to see what a deeply unhappy and damaged man looks like- it's Harry.

He will never get what he wants out of any of this- as I don't think even he knows.

NibbledSwitch · 05/01/2023 16:28

Hopefully, he is trying to destroy the royal family from the inside out.

Will any of his A list 'friends' ever be able to trust he won't 'tell all' about them and push them under the bus if it would make him money or make him feel better. I would be extremely wary of being friendly with him or his wife (if I was in that position).

She seems to have alienated all of her family and they are now working on alienating all of his, a marriage made in heaven!

I think most people will be quite careful around them now

I can only assume that he's strapped for cash in a way that we couldn't possibly understand, and doesn't have any (conventionally respectable) legitimate ways of raising it otherwise.

It's all so very, very Z list. Selling yourself this way (even if it's to paint yourself in the best possible light) isn't something that powerful people do - privacy is the biggest currency that the truly influential and successful appreciate.

Exactly!

And they are 40-ish, not ingenues. They are going to be boring aging has-beens before they know it.

Private, discreet negotiations would have been the shrewdest course.

BucketofTeaMassiveCake · 05/01/2023 16:34

Validation? So contradictory, look at me, I want to step away but can't bear to be the spare. I want to be low-key but still want to be important. It doesn't really work both ways, does it? You really can't have your cake and eat it. Now it just comes across as spoiled, whingey and whiney.

Squamata · 05/01/2023 16:35

The royal family is built on the ruthless retention of power. I don't think he can challenge the familial side of it without challenging the monarchy as an institution.

Yeah, it's not fair that your brother gets to be king and you don't. It's also not fair that I have to be.the subject of a king. But he never gets to that realisation, wants titles for his kids etc.

I don't think it's going to go well for him, charles would presumably take him back into the fold under the right circumstances but how long will Charles last - ten years? 20?

clyspa · 05/01/2023 16:38

I don't know why recounting how he lost his virginity is telling his story in anyway necessary / still his book I guess

I do hope it's just the translation from Spanish and not literal when it states he 'mounted' the lady in question.....

Hintofreality · 05/01/2023 16:41

He wants his family but not the Royal Family. He’s clearly very anti the monarchy and all it stands for.

Rowthe · 05/01/2023 16:43

healthadvice123 · 05/01/2023 15:49

@Bluekerfuffle i know and they do all these interviews but they aren't really interviews as no one questions them with things like this , its just one sided

The problem is, in order to get an 'interview ' with them you have to follow their rules.

And rather than forgo the interview the interviewer just bows to their demand.

Is he though? He bangs on about slavery but still took the money, right?

Wonnle · 05/01/2023 16:43

BOOK SALES !

Do you think hos strings are being pulled by someone though ?

PrinceHaz · 05/01/2023 16:44

I take what he says at face value. He’s angry about the family feeding stories to the press to bury other stories. His wife has experienced threats to her life. His wife has experienced a constant barrage of racism and misogyny from the press and his family won’t do anything about it.
j would be angry in this situation too.

He was specifically asked if he believed in the monarchy and he answered with an emphatic 'yes'.

I do find it amusing how so many who use the term 'royalist' as an insult also worship Harry as some sort of anti monarchist hero. He is nothing of the sort. He too is very much a 'royalist'. That's why he holds on tight to his titles, even in a country where they have no meaning.

healthadvice123 · 05/01/2023 16:45

@Hintofreality yet he continues to use his title and its money
And his family are the royal family no getting away from that
