The royal family

Do Harry and Meghan realise hardly anyone supports them?

So everywhere there seems to be complete negativity towards the Netflix documentary and the autobiography coming out. They seem to be universally slated as whingers.
so how much do you think this feeds back to them? It must be v easy to live in a bubble with close supporters telling them they are doing a grand job. But how much reality do you think gets through of how badly they are coming across,

This is an interesting article written by Catherine Mayer, biographer of Charles.

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/jan/08/harrys-book-end-of-monarchy-royal-biographer

I wouldn’t put Catherine Mayer and interesting in the same sentence but that’s my personal view.

We could say that about any RR or biographer of any member of the RF. She did have access to Charles for her biography.

Mayer notes that the alleged racism, bullying and image manipulation inside the institution are not being examined. Left alone, they have the power to dissolve faith in the idea of a hereditary head of state

Good article Rossette Could be the beginning of the end if it carries on in the same old way without introspection and accountability.

Harry's book won't end anything expect perhaps any remaining credibility he had.

I believe we need to modernise the whole thing. Make BP a museum, sell off stately homes and perhaps decide between Balmoral or Sandringham. Get rid of the bows, the curtsies, the ott pomp etc but I do think they will continue to play an important constitutional role. W&C, Charles and Camilla are all very popular and the fact they aren't rising to this ridiculous and spiteful attack will only continue to cement their popularity.

Agreed

I don't think H can singlehandedly bring down the monarchy but I'm also not sure if the 2 couples are as popular as they try and make out. Isn't it because of the comparison against M&H that it appears that way.? W&C need the support of the younger generation especially for George. If you go into schools with the topic I doubt you would get majority support. A few who are influenced at home for or against maybe but the majority are not that interested in their current generation as they or more vocal and critical and do not feel the connection or admiration whereas back in QE and possibly C there is more acceptance. If they are as strong and without fault as they believe they will come through it.

I am merely saying I don’t like her style of writing . I know there’s another poster who think she has the monopoly on all things literary but is lesser mortals are entitled to an opinion .

PreparationPreparationPrep · 08/01/2023 10:44

Interestingly Prep and I haven't got time to research it... there are people saying that there are very many books out there by military people detailing how many people they have killed and when. I don't think this is new.

I wouldn't be surprised - Also the MI5 terror threat remains at substantial and the comment came at least 24 hours ago.

And your point is? Presumably you’ve noticed that Harry’s in California not here? The time the terror threat will rise is in May when there’s the perfect opportunity to inflict maximum damage.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 08/01/2023 12:36

So the terror threat would escalate anyway because of the royal event - or you think it will now solely because of Hs comment.

Everyone on here is entitled to an opinion, of course they are!

I'm no lesser mortal and I state mine often enough!

Village in the country East Midlands and they are universally disliked around here, the topic comes up regularly!

But I want the pomp and ceremony. So do many other people. The ceremony of state occasions and set pieces like the Trooping of the Colour is one of the very few things this country does really well.

And how are you going to make them choose between two houses they own privately?

I think the threat will be enhanced significantly by Harold’s loose mouthed foolishness.

I'd rather taxpayers money went into reducing child poverty, making sure depressed teenagers can access CAMHS, that vulnerable older members of society can have high quality social care.

We could keep the royal family, but they could self fund themselves with their vast wealth and only be given expenses where required for particular things.

We have huge wealth inequality in our country and a former chancellor ensuring that taxpayer funds to the RF can never decrease IIRC is laughable.

You do know what enhance means, don’t you? If not, numerous dictionaries are available.

You do realise that both Balmoral and Sandringham are owned privately by the RF so they don't have any "deciding" to do.

They are not Crown Property.

Balmoral was purchased by Victoria & Albert and Sandringham was purchased by Prince Albert as a first marital home for Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.

How much taxpayers’ money do you think it costs? The personnel are armed forces who have to be paid anyway, the ceremonial duties are part of their wider role. The accoutrements already exist and are used over and over again, even the uniforms. The main cost is security - and, thanks to Harry’s idiocy - that will now have to be ramped up to the max on steroids and cost even more.

Could you copy and paste your link please ?

bloodyplanes · 08/01/2023 13:26

Not one single person i have spoken to where i live and work supports them! Most think they ( especially him) are awful for their behaviour. I live in a place heavily associated with the RF and H was extremely popular here before all of this!

beachcitygirl · 08/01/2023 21:59

Fingers bloody crossed the whole damm
Monarchy will come crashing down.
🎉🤩

MissMarpleRocks · 08/01/2023 22:55

Well Harry just said he believes in the monarchy & what it stands for… so he’s no plan to end it

There you go. A factual comment from me. Touche

Is Kerrymorning mixing you up with that poster who used your name but changed one letter. All their posts were deleted.

It could still be better used for the NHS.
