The royal family

Do Harry and Meghan realise hardly anyone supports them?

So everywhere there seems to be complete negativity towards the Netflix documentary and the autobiography coming out. They seem to be universally slated as whingers.
so how much do you think this feeds back to them? It must be v easy to live in a bubble with close supporters telling them they are doing a grand job. But how much reality do you think gets through of how badly they are coming across,

Most people I know think we shouldn't have a royal family & find them all ridiculous.

I don't like my sister in law because she's got some bigoted views. I wish she wasn't my sister in law. My brother shares these views so what would the point?

So it's not that you believe a sibling shouldn't criticise a sibling's spouse? It's just that you don't like either your sil's or your brother's opinions so don't want to engage with them. ButI guess if your brother did not hold those views, and your sil was bigoted and abusive to someone, you would tell your brother you weren't happy about her behaviour?

No why would I? I'd say to her directly. I would prefer it if my husband's brother spoke to me if he had a problem rather than talk about me behind my back.

Yes, I was wryly remembering that dogmatic post too, @MarshaMelrose

Oh, look, despite all that intense security a copy of the book has been leaked…and to the anti monarchy Guardian newspaper too! What an extraordinar coincidence! I expect the pages about the fight with William had post-it notes on them too.

That the embargo was breached does not prove that there was no embargo or that there are no security measures surely? The Spanish leak was quickly dealt with, but by then Sky, Sun and DM had copies, which they are hastily translating and reporting on as they translate.

So you are working yourselves up over the contents of a book based on a Spanish version that has been hastily translated, and fed to you in titillating bits, with much of it clearly out of context.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 05/01/2023 18:46

And the Guardian leak was to Martin Pengelley, a journalist who is very good at getting embargoed books in advance, and has scooped just about every Trumo book there is. Read all about it:

It wasn't me who claimed that the security was so tight before release that people would be fantasists if they said they knew what was in it. The release date isn't until next week and yet I, and any of the rest of the world who are interested, know what's in it. Are we all fantasists?

bakalava · 05/01/2023 19:57

I laughed very hard the day that claim was made by the poster because it had long been leaked, days before! That is why I posted about the gloves coming off.

Ohnonevermind · 05/01/2023 19:58

The book is a shit show in any language - nuance my arse !

bakalava · 05/01/2023 20:01

Spanish is, how can I put it politely, one of the easier languages for the MFL-phobic Brits to learn. There isn't goin to be a lot lost in translation. A lot of the TOWIE lot have functional Spanish skills from spending the season in Marbs. I mean, I believe that even Mark Wright can speak it.

Ohnonevermind · 05/01/2023 20:05

My brother has done some work translating Spanish novels in the past, I don’t remember him huffing and puffing about it

CathyorClaire · 05/01/2023 20:06

The watertight strategy plan you predicted seems to have fallen over not once but twice.

Bit careless of someone.

Mumsnet has been brilliant today

Made me laugh more than it probably should have 😂

You are still welcome to start your fan thread on Sunday for fellow bookworms of anonymous renown.

CathyorClaire · 05/01/2023 20:11

it had long been leaked, days before!

Yes.

I posted some days ago about feeling sorry for Elizabeth Hurley being framed as Harold's cougar and having to issue a denial.

BethJ62 · 05/01/2023 20:28

What will H and M do now ? Surely there can’t be anything left to say ?
I cannot imagine A listers will be keen to associate with people who have no qualms about betraying confidences.
Netflix must be seething that so much was held back during their 6 hour whingefest .
As for the RF ? Well Mike Tindal was said to call Harry a bellend - pretty accurate.
Having said that I would imagine KC is very worried about Harry’s MH .

Liz Hurley. He should be so lucky! 😅

Three more books to go. Given at least one is predicted to be a Meghan wellness finger-wagging I'm guessing the publishers have hung most of their projected profits on this gobsmacker blockbuster.

Liz Hurley. He should be so lucky!

Quite😆

"With its raw, unflinching honesty, Spare is a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief."

Thats PRH promotional blurb for the book.

The only descriptor that possible applies is “revelation” - but I would suspect you could read that another way.

GrohlOnAPole · 05/01/2023 22:21

There’s a lot to be said for algorithms, confirmation bias, reading articles that align with your views, having friends with similar views….. etc etc.

I know 2 people who are a bit negative about Meghan (but not Harry) and everyone else I know is in support of them.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 05/01/2023 22:29

@MarshaMelrose

Yesterday, before 1700, @PicturesOfDogs posted that she heard the book had "transcripts of conversations".

I said that given the measures around the book, any such claim was that of a fantasist based on speculation. It simply was not true as no one had read the book and so any "I heard X" was speculation.

I was right. The poster was a fantasist. There are no "transcripts of conversations" that have been reported by anyone, even after the leaks. There is remembered dialogue, a standard literary device for any memoir, but no "transcripts of conversations" as that suggests Harry has been recording himself, and others, all his life.

I could also say that on another thread, I predicted that Prince Harry would address his drug use, his time in the army, the Nazi uniform, the Paki slurs. I said he would address his mother's death, meeting Meghan, and that there would be lots of healing stories as well as stories of conflict.
I was roundly mocked for that.

As it happens, I was right.

I am looking forward to getting my books on Tuesday, in the two languages that I read and work in as I want to read the book, not clumsily translated bits from Spanish. Because literary and literal translation are not the same thing.

😂😂
I’m a fantasist, because I posted something I had heard?
If I said I’d read it myself, and seem the proof, then maybe. But just saying I’d read it?
You’re scraping the barrel there.

Also, as you’ve pointed out, we haven’t read all of the book. It may be right after all. We’ll have to wait with bated breath

Now, Fantasist would be a good title for a novel. It’s catchy

PicturesOfDogs · 05/01/2023 23:13

I also said I hoped it was true, because it would be nice to hear a story with a bit of meat on it, not just vague insinuations.
Recollection of conversation/transcript, as long as it’s more than ‘my father said things that just weren’t true’ with no other details.

So, how did your theory of the ‘most protected book against leaks since Harry Potter’ fare?
(I say theory, although you seemed pretty adamant it was fact)

MrsMaxDeWinter · 05/01/2023 23:15

It was fact. Not a theory. That there was a leak does not mean there were no security measures in place. The security measures and publishing strategy were widely reported, as was the Harry Potter comparison. Are you saying this papers were wrong too?

PicturesOfDogs · 05/01/2023 23:19

You said no one could possible know what it said, because there could be no leak. Because it was the most protected book since Potter.
But then, there was a leak.

You were very very wrong. As in, couldn’t have been more wrong.

The book no one could have read because it couldn’t be leaked, was leaked.

Aspiringmatriarch · 05/01/2023 23:33

@pictures She wasn't wrong in saying there was security and a tight embargo - it wasn't foolproof is all. Why are you making a big thing about it? Did you have some crystal ball vision about the book leaking? Great, give yourself a pat on the back.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 05/01/2023 23:40

BethDuttonsTwin · 04/01/2023 14:12

Indeed. Transcripts by definition are recorded on a device or by a tasked third party surely? If not then it’s just, yet again, a one sided recollection…

Here is part of your original post, which was challenged by two other posters because it made no sense, perhaps because you appear not to understand the meaning of the word transcripts.

I said you were a fantasist who was speculating and explained the security measures out in place around the book.

Those measures remain. The book is still embargoed. The fact that there were two leaks, in New York and Spain, does not mean those measures are a theory as you claim. They remain in place.

Even with the breach of the measures, the book contains no transcripts because, as explained by the two posters I quoted, transcripts does not mean what you think it means.

Ergo, what you claim you heard was a fantasy, and speculation, leaks or no leaks.

Quod erat demonstrandum.

Gracias.
