I was surprised (and not in a good way) to see Andrew join the rest of the royal family at the Christmas service at Sandringham church this morning. He even shook hands with at least one member of the crowd. Surely he should be kept away from the public if the royal family have any desire whatsoever to keep the monarchy going? What is Charles thinking in allowing him to join them?!

Prisons have chapels with good attendance on Christmas Day (and every week for that matter). The likes of Huntley and Couzens can attend if they wish.

That's nice and the relevance to this thread is what exactly?

Anyone can go to church. Obviously

Fergie was the scapegoat for decades and that never felt right to me. Never felt right that Andrew was the Mr Innocent blue eyed boy. Then he got found out and he deserved the kicking he got. Fergie was ostracised for years and that felt cruel to me - the mother of his children being treat that way.

How was she the scapegoat? She had an affair and photos were splashed all over the newspapers. They divorced. She used her connection to the queen to make money in the US. She couldn't live within her means so next she shows up looking dishevelled and slightly drunk, selling access to her husband. It's unlikely that's the first time first time did that. She's lived 20 years at Royal Lodge.
Seems to me she's done very nicely out being related to the RF. The mistakes she made were her own. She's not being shamed for anyone else's.

She's probably doing okay now but she pretty much served a life sentence for the affair and what's to say PA didn't drive her to it - now we know a few tbings about him. We don't know what he was up to. She got the full on blame and ridicule for years - treated mercilessly. Don't know how she hacked it - probably to be near her kids.

And do Huntley and Couzens do it as part of their official public engagements representing the Country?

no, thought not

FleasNavidad · 28/12/2022 18:12

No they don't. Neither does Andrew since he's not a working royal. He can go to church and if someone wants to shake his manky hand then that's up to them.

FleasNavidad · 28/12/2022 18:13

Did you ever consider that he wasn't "working"? No, thought not.

He did go to church, he went privately to the early service - fine.

my question is why was he in church later as part of the working royal engagements (as listed in the court circular) and meeting/greeting the public, and what right does he have to be at that official engagement?

if you actually rtft you’ll see this has been discussed. It’s not his attendance at church that’s the issue, it’s his attendance at an official royal engagement that the problem

Then why was he at the official engagement interacting with the public? Especially as he’s already been to a private church service earlier

Fergie bought her own house in London this year. it is worth millions but does not compare to Royal lodge. She would probably marry him again just to rehabilitate his image. If that does not work then nothing will.

I thought Fergie was OK and got a very rough ride from the press during her marriage. But she was an adult with two children when she decided to have an affair. Don't blame her choices on her husband. She decided to have an affair, don't belittle her by treating her like the little woman who can't be responsible for herself.
And she was very clear when she got money from the Sheikh that that was all her own actions.

I understand you don't like Andrew but he is not responsible for the wrongdoings of his wife. If he had an affair, you'd never turn round and blame it on Fergie being a nightmare. And if Andrew tried to do that, you'd be outraged.

If Andrew was so dreadful, would she have remained so close to him, speaking glowing if him on many occasions.

It is a comforting fiction that it is the rich and powerful that abuse

I don't think anyone is saying this. We know the perpetrator is usually in a position of power and power is relative.

It was brutal - and it went on for years. I felt sorry for her. The dynamics of their relationship we don't know but we now have an insight into PA warped morality and conduct - hanging out with Epstein, his inability to take responsibility, his car crash interview and cringey rationalisations and paying off the girl who was accusing him. I don't really see him getting a rough ride for that but he's been exposed and that's natural justice - and going to be as good as it gets.

CathyorClaire · 30/12/2022 19:44

Epstein had more contact numbers for Fergie in his little back book than he did for Andrew.

Just sayin'
