To think the palace should issue a statement condemning Clarkson's comments?

Reindeersnooker · 20/12/2022 16:01

I'm all for their dignified silence on everything else. I don't trust Harry or Megan. But Jeremy Clarkson's comments are horrific and were made in Britain against a woman who has become a member of their family.

NOT issuing a statement sends out such a hurtful message and indicates that anything can be said about her, for all they care. Even the MPs have managed to put something on paper.

It's clear that Harry will be beyond hurt if they do nothing and this time he'd have a point, IMO. Each comment like this published in the press erodes the boundaries for online trolls. If I was Meghan, I wouldn't feel I could return to the UK as it's clear the normal rules don't apply to her. What will her children think of Britain when they grow up and become aware of these articles? Won't they be likely to wonder how the palace responded? While it makes no sense to try and placate Harry generally, letting this play out without one word of censure to the press seems needlessly provocative.

It wouldn't be difficult to issue a statement saying something to the effect of "We stand against bullying and hate speech..." Two lines to indicate they see it and it's not ok.

Or not?

Unlike you I can't sit all day on here. Believe if you want it was totally coincidental that Camilla was there with Clarkson and Morgan. That she hadn't a clue who would be there. That she had nothing to do with the party at all and just went along to a private party with whoever would be there (she hadn't a clue) for some free grub.

As if that could possibly be true. So if Camilla goes anywhere, the Queen, everyone who will be there will not be known or vetted. She will just wander in and it will be a total surprise who the guests are. She will have had no involvement at all and the owner of the restaurant would never tell a minor lie for her.

Seriously you are buts if you believe this narrative;.

HerReputationMadeItDifficultToProceed · 20/12/2022 21:23

They won't because they agree with him. It's about time that we got rid of the lot of them frankly, this only makes me feel even more strongly about this.

'Unlike you I can't sit all day on here.' Hmm Grin

The title of the article says inside Camilla's Christmas party. This version says where it was held but not the host.
Looks like the article went through several rewrites.

Much like the Royal Family, I am going to take this moment to refrain from commenting on the current events in this thread.😂

I am back now. Did you know that Antelope Valley is located in Los Angeles, CA? Just an interesting factoid.

Blimey. It literally says in the first paragraph that the host was Ventner.

I dunno maybe the newspaper who employed this man and prints this column?

Except they are the culprits. Why would a tabloid stand up against the very thing they make money from? They knew that article was vile, they chose to print it anyhow. I believe they choose to print it because there would be no consequences.

So who, then, is responsible for calling out the press?

Luckily, finally, this time the public is making the complaints. Briton has finally hit it's limit I suppose. I am hopeful that the regulatory agency fines them heavily for allowing this to be printed.

The Sun's response was to take down the article "at Clarkson's request". So they arent taking it seriously either.

I’m saying she didn’t host it. Which she clearly didn’t. The thought that she did is frankly ludicrous. And even if she did know they were attending - why on Earth should she not enjoy a lunch she’d invited to because not everyone there loves every member of her family? Why should she show solidarity to a woman who has absolutely trashed her family?

Coukd have fooled me that you have better things to do. You spend all day starting numerous threads on here. Which is fine - but it’s pot calling the kettle black for having a poke at someone else for posting lotsZ

It also states that Ewan avengers hosted it. As do many other articles. But they just all be wrong and he’s lying. Or maybe he got confused, or forgot 🤣

The press can call themselves out and has in the past as per the NOTW scandal and eventual closure.

I hope they’re fined too

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 20/12/2022 21:45

Anyway where is this picture of Camilla and Clarkson?

Blossomtoes · 20/12/2022 21:59

antelopevalley · 20/12/2022 19:12

And Camilla not inviting him to a lunch she hosted would at least have been a start. Or a promise to never invite him again.

She didn’t host the lunch or issue the invitations. She was a guest.

Insaneinthemembraneee · 20/12/2022 22:08

NO!!!
Here's the thing, Madame Meghan got to say what she wanted because that's what Free Speech entitles us to do and therefore Jeremy Clarkson also gets that privilege; whether you like it or not.

( She shouldn't dish it out if she herself can't take it )

onlylarkin · 20/12/2022 22:12

Yes we all have free speech. But none of us are immune to consequences from that.

Meghan has never said anything so vile, so this is not a title for tat.

I’m not sure Meghan ever said she hated anyone to the point she wanted to sling shit at them in the street.

There has to be a line

But in civilised society, free speech should have civilised limits. OK, free speech means you can say what you like, but where would we be if everyone did that? Clarkson was vile and should be censured.

But it was Clarkson, no-one else.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/12/2022 22:25

But in civilised society, free speech should have civilised limits

I'd suggest the difficulty here is who'd decide what those limits should be?
We already - quite rightly - disallow incitement to violence, etc., but there's no automatic right not to be offended and I'm not sure there should be

For me it's enough for the likes of Clarkson to be seen for exactly what they are; it's not as if anyone's agreeing with him, and a lot of the suggestions being made risk feeding his pitiful need for attention, which could be a negative in itself

Blossomtoes · 20/12/2022 22:28

Absolutely @Puzzledandpissedoff. He should be sacked. Simple as that.

Absolutely, but the problem is, the behaviour gives others the impetus to behave in a similar fashion - the kind of people who like Clarkson and his 'telling it like it is', aren't the type to be put off by most people finding his verbal diarrhea offensive and unacceptable. The fact that he's still around after past incidents makes some think he's untouchable.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/12/2022 22:35

On an emotional level I agree, Blossom, though even that could easily feed his attention seeking

Much better, IMO, to just fade him out - no renewed contracts, no invitations to mix with decent people, no publicity and so on. In other words treat him with the derision he richly deserves, but in a quiet way which leaves him no place to go

Blossomtoes · 20/12/2022 22:35

That’s why he needs to be fired. In a very public fashion.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/12/2022 22:41

Agree with this too, Coxs, though admittedly I struggle with the kind of mentality which would find anything to admire in Clarkson

Sadly there'll always be mindless brutes, but even with those I'd almost rather know - not least so that I can avoid them

yesitssea · 20/12/2022 23:16

Are people actually suggesting Camilla A) organised the lunch in a Royal capacity and B) knew JC was writing an articles

I can confirm that 'The lunch' was hosted by Ewen Venters at Angela Hartnetts restaurant. Camilla was a guest and didn't have control of the guest list.

And Unless she can see the future then no, she didn't know the article was being written two days in advance of it being released.

Looks like the article went through several rewrites.

Given that it says ’Camilla was snapped chatting with other guests at the Michelin-starred restaurant owned by Angela Hartnett’ in the mini headlines it’s already clear she’s a guest even before it gets to ’Camilla, 75, donned a green midi dress as she stepped out for the star-studded bash at the Murano restaurant in Mayfair on Wednesday, hosted by Ewan Venters - the former head of royal grocer Fortnum & Mason.’
