Piers Morgan's response to Clarkson's comments

Is not to condemn them but instead to attack Meghan and Harry

"Imagine if all those screaming with rage about Jeremy Clarkson felt the same protective anger towards those who’ve branded our Royal Family callous lying racist bullies - without producing any actual evidence for these cruel allegations?"

What is his problem - does he not see an issue with Clarkson's comments and his column?

Classic whataboutery.

Sorry I am very tired and should have read the thread more closely, as I see this post is less about the whole sorry saga of H, M and the family but Clarkson’s words and Morgan’s response, so my answer wasn’t sticking to the point really.

Blossomtoes · 20/12/2022 17:40

You’re clearly better at turning the other cheek than me @Livingtothefull.

cakeorwine · 20/12/2022 17:40

It would just have been nice to see a simple condemnation of what Clarkson said. No "what about". No saying he wouldn't have written it in response to a question.

He is the person who berates them constantly. And he wonders why people like Clarkson feel that they can say these things. Because of the atmosphere he has helped create.

if I’d invited someone to an event and then two days later he was racist to my step daughter in law I’d be keen to publicly support her. Unless of course I was racist myself

Don't forget that Clarkson and Camilla go way back. Clarkson says they used to sneak off to share a smoke together. He spoke very highly of her.

AlexaM86 · 20/12/2022 17:43

cakeorwine · 20/12/2022 17:30

He said it as a throwaway line hidden in a video followed by a "Look at what they have done to the RF"

Not as a straightforward condemnation.

That's what he should have done. But he didn't.

He only said on Twitter in response to a comment.

He is part of the reason why there is this attitude towards MM

Hidden in a video? He said it live on his public ally broadcasted tv show and tweeted it on two accounts.

I can guarantee that if he’d said something akin to what JC said on said show, you wouldn’t be saying “oh well, it was only on a hidden video somewhere, he didn’t say it on an actual tweet”.

You’re being disingenuous because of your opinion of him. Which is ironically what people accuse him of.

Clarkson and Morgan are the classic middle class white men who are having constant tantrums because they want to keep women and non-white people in their place. They fixate on people they don't know and obsess over pulling them down. They are now ganging up like the schoplboy bullies they are.

All men seem to want to do this in my experience. All races, all classes, all countries. It's maddening.

Well I don't know whether that is true or not. But then I am not the Queen whose conduct should supposedly be setting an example to the rest of us.

Indeed. I'm afraid the company they keep says a lot about a person so it doesn't reflect well on Camilla that Clarkson is her friend. It also makes it very awkward for the RF to condemn his behaviour now.

SinnerBoy · 20/12/2022 17:59

We have only H and M’s words for it that the other family members’ press teams passed on bad stories.

Where do you think these stories come from? The press usually attribute them to "a palace source." They're not conjuring them out of the ether.

What did he say?
Did he say " I condemn what Clarkson did. "

No, He said " I wouldn't have said that."

At 1'10, after going on about what he thinks she has done he says "In response to the Clarkson thing, I don't think he should have put in there"

And that's it. Blink and you miss it

The video you tweeted - what does the words say ""I don't hate Meghan Markle... I never said I hated Meghan Markle."
Piers Morgan tells feminist activist Natalie Collins: "I hate what she's done to the royal family and to the monarchy and to the reputation of Britain."

That's where he should have made a clear statement.

But all he says is "In response to the Clarkson thing, I don't think he should have put it in there"

And that's it. Hardly a condemnation

Weirdly I've noticed a dramatic drop in the number of threads about her on MN. I wonder why....

Why?

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 20/12/2022 18:55

I’d never expect anything less of Morgan TBH. Still having a tantrum because M wouldn’t be his friend.

what is it with overweight pink faced middle class buffoons hating on women 20 years their junior.

Livingtothefull · 20/12/2022 19:30

'We have only H and M’s words for it that the other family members’ press teams passed on bad stories'.

Morgan claimed after the Oprah interview that several members of the Royal Family had thanked him for 'standing up to' Meghan. We know how much he abhors liars so he must be telling the truth on this...so evidently the RF support the badmouthing of them by him as well as Clarkson.

Morgan went on to complain about an 'online mob' that made death threats against his family including his children, following his allegations about M&H. 'The idea my sons had to be targeted by so-called liberals in a way that was threatening to them, abusive to them is completely disgusting” - so presumably he knows how Meghan must feel.

That is still not the same as H’s insinuation that his brother’s press staff fed false stories to the press. Also if a member of the royal family thanked Morgan for standing up for them after the Oprah interview, I can understand. That interview was full of insinuation and half truths.

But why? He isn’t JC nor is he responsible for JC. He’s said he doesn’t believe he should’ve done it and he’s not once, in any way, condoned it at all either.

Gruffalo101 · 20/12/2022 19:55

Imagine you had a friend and every single time you met them they had a go about one person. This friend hadn't seen them or had any one to one interaction with them for years but he still felt the need to give them a verbal bashing...every single time you met them...on and on and on.

Most people would say give it a rest, you seem to have issues.

This is how I feel about PM and his histrionics over MM sidelining him. Who can blame her for ditching him, he is renowned for overseeing the taping of individuals personal phones and leaking their personal business.

Both PM and JC are of the same ilk. Both buoyed by their own over inflated ego of themselves and can't bear to be rejected. If they weren't celebrities not many would give them a second glance.

Hideous individuals.

TooBigForMyBoots · 20/12/2022 20:06

Watched the clip.

PM just blamed H&M for negative stories about Britain and the British press. So not only does she have to put up with JC and the Sun, PM is now blaming her for the reporting.Xmas Shock

He has nothing intelligent or rational to say about MM. He loses his fucking mind every time she's mentioned.

Because it would be the decent thing to do.
Because he has gone on and on about MM for ages. Ranted about her.
Tweeted
Wrote columns about her

And then - when someone who is a prominent columnist, celebrity writes a column calling for her to be stripped and have shit thrown at her - well, he is part of the feeding frenzy that has caused this.

Ok @george ... I'll bite.

I just watched the documentary and there seem to me to be at least two clear pieces of evidence of the royal family acting against M & H:

  1. Harry's letter to Charles being leaked
  2. The bloke from William's press office testifying against Meghan in her case against the Mail.

I was taken aback at both of those.

Lampzade · 20/12/2022 21:29

Piers Morgan spontaneously combusts every time Meghan’s name is mentioned.
She lives in his head daily. If that was my husband obsessively stalking ( because that is what it is) another woman I would be alarmed, ashamed and feel as though I wasn’t enough for my husband
Be rest assured that Piers reads everything about Meghan, probably watched the documentary several times over and was probably furious to see that Meghan and Harry are carving out a life for themselves.
Piers is unhinged. He really needs help.
Can picture him in his crusty old pyjamas, drinking a glass of booze and watching ‘Suits’ boxset.
Pathetic weasel

Meghan was lying in court though claiming they had nothing to do with Finding Freedom. William's press officer (I presume you're referring to Jason Knauf) came forward with emails showing they were heavily involved at which point Meghan admitted to having forgotten writing an outline of the book which was sent to the authors. I think when you know someone's lying in court you're obliged to come forward by law if I'm not mistaken (although correct me if I'm wrong - I'm not in England and don't know English law). The letter could have been leaked by anyone. The Palace has hundreds or even thousands of staff. It's not necessarily the RF itself doing the leaking.
