Sussexes invited to Coronation and to keep titles

I think this was the right call. Not to invite them to the Coronation just look petty. And he can't remove the Sussexes titles without removing Andrew's.

Blimey, they’d better start moulding a huge candle to place in front of Meghan in Westminster Abbey.

Also sales of tomatoes should be suspended for a month prior to prevent people stockpiling.

H&M would have to have the brassiest of brass necks and the hides of a herd of rhinoceroses to turn up, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Netflix were ordering them over in order to keep the greenbacks flowing.

TrashyPanda · 19/12/2022 17:37

so just speculation

not fact.

which is fitting, seeing as you are discussing H&M who are so closely affiliated Alan Clark’s infamous remark.

You're terribly invested in the Royal Family aren't you?

😆 at this point I'd call it an obsession.

BethJ62 · 19/12/2022 17:51

tatalan · 19/12/2022 17:17

That's exactly why H&M still have theirs. I have shocked to learn via the docu that they'd offered to give up the titles. There's a reason they RF didn't take them up on that offer 😂

But all they have to do is stop using their titles . No fuss . Same as Duchess of Kent .

antelopevalley · 19/12/2022 17:55

Do they use their titles?

OP posts:
healthadvice123 · 19/12/2022 18:01

I didn't think KC has authority to remove titles ?

healthadvice123 · 19/12/2022 18:03

@tatalan where is the proof they offered to give up the titles ? Actual proof not he said , she said

healthadvice123 · 19/12/2022 18:03

@antelopevalley I believe they do at times

BethJ62 · 19/12/2022 18:24

antelopevalley · 19/12/2022 17:55

Do they use their titles?

Are you being serious ? Of course they do . Plus monogrammed writing paper .

Maireas · 19/12/2022 18:26

healthadvice123 · 19/12/2022 18:01

You're right, I think it has to be an Act of Parliament.

TrashyPanda · 19/12/2022 18:30

they can give their titles up themselves

no Act of Parliament required if they do that and Charles consents

superdupernova · 19/12/2022 18:36

antelopevalley · 19/12/2022 17:55

Do they use their titles?

Err yes, everywhere. Even Meghan's book has her title.

Maireas · 19/12/2022 18:39

Yes, they could just comply without an Act of Parliament. Just call themselves Harry and Meghan Windsor. Or somesuch!

Riapia · 19/12/2022 19:01

Clever move by the palace.
Gotcha.

MintJulia · 19/12/2022 19:18

They may be invited, but can you imagine anyone wanting to sit and chat to them, knowing it'll all end up on some ghastly American documentary.

PicturesOfDogs · 19/12/2022 19:42

So if they do come, do they have to bow to Charles and swear fealty?

TheRedLip · 19/12/2022 22:22

I think they need to think carefully about attending the coronation. There will be those who will be all too happy to boo and hiss at them from the crowds. And I can't think any family member or guest will be comfortable talking to them much at all, in case the conversation appears in the next book or documentary.

But very fair play to King Charles and his advisors, they have totally styled this one out.

StClare101 · 19/12/2022 22:45

Another chance for Harry and Meghan to prove they are hypocrites.

I note they signed their Christmas card as Duke and Duchess.

I’d have a lot more respect for them if they just became Harry Mountbatten-Windsor and Meghan Markle.

And if they didn’t attend the coronation as it is not a family gathering. It’s protocol.

EdithWeston · 19/12/2022 22:49

IcedPurple · 19/12/2022 15:45

Could you link to the official announcement, OP?

Or are you just regurgitating internet gossip?

I think it's regurgitation

There's never been anything remotely decently sourced to suggest they would not be invited

And, not withstanding the Private Members Bill, which like all such bills is unlikely to pass (and was aimed squarely at Andrew, as it was introduced by a Labour MP for York), the King can't strip peerage titles anyhow.

EdithWeston · 19/12/2022 22:51

PicturesOfDogs · 19/12/2022 19:42

So if they do come, do they have to bow to Charles and swear fealty?

All peers do, if they are using a traditional style of service. So yes the Duke, like all Dukes, will be expected to so

WinnieTheW0rm · 19/12/2022 23:01

TrashyPanda · 19/12/2022 18:30

They can stop using the title, but it still exists (unless Parliament acts)

So if Harry does whatever the ducal equivalent of abdicating is, then Archie becomes the Duke. He can also renounce, and if he does so before producing a legitimate male heir, then the title becomes extinct at that point. I don't think he can renounce before he is 18

Kokeshi123 · 19/12/2022 23:04

Wise move. H&M should refuse to come on principle (coming to your grandmother’s funeral is one thing, but it’s pretty hypocritical to make a packet criticizing the royal family while continuing to show up for its big events). They probably won’

Kokeshi123 · 19/12/2022 23:04

Won’t be able to resist coming though, which will ever-so-delicately emphasize their hypocrisy.

milveycrohn · 19/12/2022 23:29

The RF may change their minds when the book comes out, who knows.
Not sure they can say much more than they have said already.
Maybe well see what they have for breakfast.
We know that William sent a text (or msg), or do we? Did we see the message?
As Meghan said, they can say what they like.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 19/12/2022 23:31

Yes it was the right call. Stripping them of the titles would only really serve to validate that anti-MM loons. Having said that I don’t like how they trash the institution and then use the titles given to them by the same institution to make money and elevate their status. No matter - the King is doing the right thing for his family in leaving things as they are. It’s easy for all us to sit from afar and say X Y and Z should be done but this man loves his son and DIL and will not want to alienate them.
