The royal family

Are William and Kate modernisers?

antelopevalley · 19/12/2022 13:34

I have seen this viewpoint on a number of occasions that William and Kate are modernisers and will modernise the Royal Family. What do you think?

Personally I think Charles is a moderniser, and William and Kate are traditionalists and will change nothing of any importance unless they have to. And example of Charles push to modernise is that he wants to be defender of all faiths. Whatever you think about it, this is a major constitutional change. It decouples the Royal Family from the Church of England and couples them instead to a belief in God however it is expressed. I could not imagine William and Kate doing this.

p.s. Charles has been talking about many changes including to defender of the faith long before Camilla was officially on the scene, which is why I have not mentioned her.

@wishingyouwell No matter how many times you repaet yourself in multiple diffrent ways does not make it true, It just makes you look obsessed.

wishingyouwell · 20/12/2022 11:45

@nogginatemycat The inconvenient truth you don't wish to admit or for other people to become aware of. The stats speak for themselves.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 20/12/2022 11:47

You can check the stats for yourselves, they are available for everyone. They speak to her shocking work ethic

<sigh>

Lets try this again.

Yea we can all see the stats. Around 190 engagements last year IIRC.

But what I want to know is how, and why, this points to a ‘shocking work ethic’. What benchmark are you using, what magic number would make it no longer a shocking work ethic? This is how data analysis works. Otherwise it’s literally subjective.

They don’t though 😂 they’re just stats - there’s no objective stat that says “300 engagements or less = lazy”.

I don’t think they have a shocking work ethic. Your opinion is of no more value than mine.

And yes children are an excuse as to why someone may not work as much. Which is why so many parents are PT workers

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 20/12/2022 11:51

“stats speak for themselves”

”Shocking work ethic”

”Lazy”

“Entitled”

I think your microchip is broken. You’re like one of those dolls who only says the 4 same phrases over and over

There is nothing modern about a family who think's they're superior based upon what vagina they came out of.

Classy.

I don’t think they think they’re superior. It’s just the way it is, like every person born into the circumstances they’re in.

There are plenty of people who feel superior who came out of everyday vaginas. Meghan Markle to name one

Modernising to me would be reducing homes and core Royal Family.
However reducing the family down means fewer public engagements, which we know Anne is doing the bulk. Sophie has started doing more as well.
I would hope that Williams other children have jobs/careers. However who will do all visits apart from George then.

I hope Kate doesn’t do many engagements because of the age of her children and they have a fairly normal life day to day.

I know lots of the European families aren’t large, how do they manage?

Yes, and it’s unfair to say W&C aren’t modernisers because things like this just aren’t their call yet.

rumship · 20/12/2022 13:09

Wishingyouwell just like the duracell bunny but worse. Your not convincing any one, Kate works 1000X more than judging by how much they post on MN.

limoncello23 · 20/12/2022 13:11

I think they just fit the number of engagements to the people they have available.

From what I can tell, it appears to be predominantly the monarch and the heir (and their respective partners) that do the vast majority of the engagements. For example, the Dutch equivalent of Prince Edward is Prince Constantijn, and he has a regular-ish job for a management consultancy. Princess Madeleine of Sweden is in a similar in position to Prince Harry, and she lives fairly uneventfully with her husband in Florida.

It's a trend in all European Royal families to slim down the number of people paid to be the 'public face' of the crown.

itsgettingweird · 20/12/2022 14:53

I agree that they aren't modernisers.

What I do think is that they will take over from a monarchy modernised by King Charles and the media will make out they've done it all!

I don't think of Charles had abdicated it would change as they are traditional - but I also don't think they'll change the new modernised RF back to traditional when he becomes king.

wishingyouwell · 20/12/2022 15:20

They don't have the work ethic to modernise anything. Far better in the hands of King Charles.

Kate managed a mere 90 engagements this year, she has always had a shockingly poor work ethic, prior to having children also. Ultimately a very entitled attitude. Contempt for and great disrespect to the taxpayers.

Princess Anne and King Charles on the other hand, great work ethic coming in at number one and two, respectively for royal engagements.

@SallyLockheart Why would I? I only pointed out some one is aprolific poster of the same thing. Sorry are am I annoying you?

Sorry Nog. Not aimed at you, rather the prolific poster you responded to

@SallyLockheart Thank you 💓

@wishingyouwell As a bit of a lurker on the royal threads. Do you ever stop posting the same thing over and over as other PPs have said its getting monotonus, you are not convincing any one.

JustLyra · 20/12/2022 16:21

It’s funny as well how many times it’s said that Princess Anne does the most.

Charles has actually done the most engagements for several years.

Anne has done the most number of days.

Like everything with the royals it’s subjective on how you look at it.

JustLyra · 20/12/2022 16:22

*until this year

Most of the other European monarchies have much smaller populations than Britain. The next largest, Spain, has 47 million but the royals are rather low key there. Add up the populations of all the Scandinavian monarchies and it's still less than a third of the population of Britain. And none of them have the equivalent of the Commonwealth realms which Britain does.

So a smaller number of royals can cover a lot more ground, relatively speaking.

@LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet Why are you being so nasty to posters you disagree with?

ThighMistress · 20/12/2022 18:38

I think it was indeed Harry and Meghan who wanted to modernise the royal family. Harry appears roundly pissed at primogeniture and wanted a new modern way of 50/50, with his own court being at Windsor Castle doing the glam things and fusty old William and Kate handling peasant meetings in Corby.

He literally wanted to move to South Africa but continue to represent the Queen while living abroad, but enjoy your fanfic!
