The royal family

Are William and Kate modernisers?

I have seen this viewpoint on a number of occasions that William and Kate are modernisers and will modernise the Royal Family. What do you think?

Personally I think Charles is a moderniser, and William and Kate are traditionalists and will change nothing of any importance unless they have to. And example of Charles push to modernise is that he wants to be defender of all faiths. Whatever you think about it, this is a major constitutional change. It decouples the Royal Family from the Church of England and couples them instead to a belief in God however it is expressed. I could not imagine William and Kate doing this.

p.s. Charles has been talking about many changes including to defender of the faith long before Camilla was officially on the scene, which is why I have not mentioned her.

Right antelope, I'll give you a new one to post about. Apparently, Kate gifted Harry a "grow your own girlfriend kit" as a jokey Christmas present a few years ago. Look what happened!

Oh, it's her fault, is it?

Seeds often look frustratingly similar - especially when you tried to bury one because "you never knew I was a seed"!

No imo.

I agree with you, OP. One thing about Charles is that he was way ahead of his time on environmentalism and sustainability. He was derided as a tree-hugging weirdo back in the 80s before it became trendy.

I haven't seen W&K embrace any original causes.

saltofcelery · 19/12/2022 18:27

William and Catherine are most definitely not modernisers. They would never rock the boat.

Charles on the other hand, is the opposite. Hopefully he shakes up the monarchy a bit (including slimming it down).

antelopevalley · 19/12/2022 18:27

@PlaitBilledDuckyPuss i don't agree with all of Charles ideas, he is a big supporter of homoeopathy for example. But he clearly is someone open to new ideas.

This. I don’t think effort to change will be one of their qualities in the future. Neither seem to have much personality, either. I find it bizarre (being generous) in this day and age that neither the current consort nor the future one have held down real jobs as adults. Nothing modern there.

I'm sure Search & Rescue helicopter pilots and Air Ambulance pilots will be delighted that you don't view them as having real jobs.

Kate was never a pilot. Don’t think Camilla was either. (You’ve missed the word “consort” in the post you’re replying to…)

My mistake.
But who the hell cares frankly? They've been SAHMs, that's a job - much as some people denigrate it.
I thought the whole point of feminism was that we can choose the life we want.
And Catherine has had jobs. She worked for Jigsaw until the press attention made it untenable, then worked within her parents firm. That's working.

Beanbagtrap · 19/12/2022 21:59

I want the royals to be outrageous, they should flounce about in crowns and capes all day, have carriages pulled by lions or something and demand they sing the Eurovision song contest entry William and Kate are so dull.

Postgraddope · 19/12/2022 22:00

They would help themselves if they publicly condemned Jeremy Clarksons absolutely vile comments about Meghan ! Am not a fan of any of them but if they want to continue being popular they should definitely step up and say something.

A SAHM with children in school and nursery and nannies?

Charles is definitely more of the moderniser. He was part of the original wave of growing and eating organic foods, and advocating sustainable farming.

I agree with this. Charles was interested in the environment back when it was seen as a somewhat weird thing to care about. He was ahead of many of his generation in that.

By contrast, W&K's causes are all very mainstream, not modernising or going to deliver great change.

I think they’re a very modern Royal couple.

As for being modernisers - who knows because right this minute it’s not their place to suggest modernisations. William was until recently only the grandson of a monarch, it isn’t his time yet to suggest modernisations - Charles was perhaps than him and further on in life when he began to talk about environmental issues (which he got absolutely trashed for at the time and called a tree hugger).

The Queen showed no personality either. I’d rather have Royals who say what needs to be said rather than being bouncy quirky children’s TV presenter style people. They’re not celebrities looking to make their mark, they’re Royals who should be allowing their subjects to have the limelight

With a SAHM don’t you usually have something to stay at home from?! Most people don’t just hang around waiting to get hitched and preggers then become a SAHM do they
