I like her a lot. Just finished the documentary. She is genuinely likeable and quite magnetic, in a non-threatening way. She seems to just want to do some good, enjoy her family life, and not be constantly pilloried in the press. I don't see any nasty or sinister side at all and don't understand all the nastiness aimed at her.

Having watched all 6 episodes of the Netflix series, Harry and Meghan seem to me to be a lovely couple who weren’t prepared to slot into soulless little boxes to suit the British establishment. They then had to fight for their independence and her mental health. I admire Meghan’s work for women’s rights and welfare both before and since her relationship with Harry.

A hundred percent this.

I believe the both of them have a strong moral compass and really believed at the start they could change the outdated monarchy from the inside - if anything that documentary has shown it's really not fit for purpose as-is, and is in desperate need of modernizing. I think it's a real shame they weren't supported (and indeed were actively penalized) by the institution for not simply falling into line, and given the way they were treated by both the family and the media I don't blame them one bit for leaving.

EconomyClassRockstar · 16/12/2022 00:50

I have always liked Harry and understood his absolutely unique position in the royal family. No, he wasn't the first spare but he was the first spare to grow up from birth with the kind of media spotlight he received and he lost his Mum at an incredibly vulnerable age. I also think he should remember that some of the stuff William's court were allegedly doing probably came from William protecting his children, without the ability to just move to Canada or LA.

The thing I genuinely don't get is why Charles has never, I dunno, just picked up the phone and addressed all this like normal people? But then he did have a hissy fit about a pen so.....

stevalnamechanger · 16/12/2022 00:51

Me too !!!!

I feel like if what they’ve said about the royal family is true then it’s a sad state of affairs.

the idea of leaking a negative story about your brother to save your own skin doesn’t sit well with me. There’s a part of me that can well believe what they said about the inner workings of the PR machine for the RF

she was a bit gushy and annoying but I didn’t dislike her watching it

Of course they have to do it . The royal family has never been in such survival mode in our post colonial world

Go to bed then.

All of this!

Yes I agree.

She does seem nice and as though she tried her best. Unfortunately she and her husband seem to have been treated very poorly.

threecupsofteaminimum · 16/12/2022 00:56

I like her but I think people are scared of her because she's smart and not the archetypal girl who they think Harry should be with.

You could be right. After all her staff were certainly scared of her.

She seems nice. I do feel very sorry for her though but thankfully, Harry has her back and puts her and the DC first. I have never understood the hatred and I hope she is able to lead a peaceful life with her family. I also get the impression that Doria has been more of a mum to Harry than King Tampon was a dad.

The hatred can be traced to the power of the press who are interested in selling stories - they sell stories by getting an emotional response from readers. Hatred is a stronger emotion to evoke in readers than love and admiration for a strangers because of envy and jealousy too.

nalabae · 16/12/2022 03:45

Same. It’s just jealously why people don’t like her, she’s a mixedrace commoner that married into the royal family which others couldn’t do.

pelargoniums · 16/12/2022 03:53

I think she’s great. Charming and charismatic. I love that she spoke about MeToo while being on official royal engagements, and her mental health. Generally she comes across as LA woo dippy and very actressy but that’s who she is, nothing unlikeable about it, just fun to watch. Also, great wardrobe! Though I was disappointed by the documentary look, which was quite blousey and frumpy. Bring back the bright colours!

Jusmakingit · 16/12/2022 06:03

I like her. Always have. It’s clear the British press and royal family have a strong relationship. It was obvious years ago when the hate campaign started.

im glad Harry stood up for her and they moved . At least Harry will now get a semi normal family life .

if you took all the press away then how would you judge someone to hate them so much. Based on the documentary I still like her

garlicandsapphires · 16/12/2022 06:15

I have definitely warmed to her, which I’m surprised about. I think we’ve been fed an awful lot of crap about her. Poor woman.

Sindonym · 16/12/2022 06:16

I warn to her as well OP.

Sindonym · 16/12/2022 06:16

Warm!

tunthebloodyalarmoff · 16/12/2022 06:20

She is an actress. How do you know her ?

Absolutely agree with this.

Yorkshiredolls · 16/12/2022 06:37

Unpopular opinion but I’ve always liked her and Harry, still do. Saw right through the bullshit when all the negative press about her started. I don’t believe every tabloid piece of shit thats fed to me. Shes done a hell of a lot more good for the world supporting her charities than than any of her keyboard warrior critics ever have.

missfliss · 16/12/2022 06:37

I'm usually utterly indifferent to be honest to the royal family - find the Daily Mail obsession with bringing them down utterly bizarre.

Wish them well - think having a monarchy Is ridiculous- but think the gutter press are abhorrent

LateAF · 16/12/2022 06:43

sofasofa42 · 15/12/2022 23:16

I feel a bit ashamed that I believed the media tbh. I have watched the Netflix doc. I believe them. I also don't enjoy the media coverage of the documentary, which actually stands up to what they are saying .
Ultimately, anyone who cares needs a life audit.

They are slating the machine behind the royal family. Not the actual people. Potentially at times, what the machine makes their family members do. Honestly - please get all of them out of the press. I am done with it.

Or we all need to get rid of the monarchy and then a law passed about press intrusion.

I agree with you- watching the dailymail and other press frothing and sensationally reporting the documentary in a completely biased way, almost proves that they are being briefed by or have a mutual understanding with the Firm. It’s been uncomfortable to connect those dots.

Velvian · 16/12/2022 06:47

Yanbu. I've not seen the whole series yet, but she comes across as lovely; caring, kind and intelligent and thoughtful.

I really feel for them both.

marblemad · 16/12/2022 06:50

YABU she spouts nothing but utter nonsense, has been shown to habitually exaggerate and change narratives to suit her own agenda and is literally a trained actress.

marblemad · 16/12/2022 06:50

Also, please remember the documentary is a one sized narrative that has not been fact checked!

Bumpitybumper · 16/12/2022 07:02

The documentary has only reinforced my thoughts about Meghan. Whilst in theory I like a lot of what she stands for, this is something instinctively 'off' and disingenuous about how she comes across at times that I find unsettling.

It was interesting that when she spoke about some of her childhood experiences and her passion for activism, she seemed a lot more authentic and real. It's very hard to put my finger on exactly why, but when she talks about how she fell in love with Harry and they acted liked kids together or how she had no interest or knowledge of the RF before joining it, she just doesn't talk about these things in the same way. It comes across as a bit too try hard and as though she's acting and desperate for people to buy into what she's saying.

It's all a bit inconsistent and I think a lot of people have an instinctive feel for when others are being inauthentic. I think this combined with her making some pretty strong claims against the RF and being the apparent catalyst for Harry to break ties with his family is a combination that will make people a bit wary of her. If it appears to some that she isn't being genuine about some aspects of her life then it will discredit some of the other things she is saying and make people question her real motives.

I also think their desperation to blame the British media and racism isn't really tackling the underlying issue of how she comes across at times and why it isn't connecting with some people as it should. The Oprah interview and this Netflix series were arguably edited in their favour and people got the opportunity to hear her side of things and yet still in my view, she comes across as inauthentic for large parts of these shows.
