Meghan could not invite niece to her wedding

Ashleigh is Samantha Markle/Grant’s daughter. Samantha lost custody of Ashleigh when Ashleigh was very young, and she was raised by her paternal grandparents. Ashleigh is Meghan's niece.

"In the new Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex shared that while she was not close to her half-sister Samantha Markle, she had a close bond with Samantha’s daughter, Ashleigh Hale. However, things got tricky when it came to the guest list for the couple’s royal wedding in 2018.

“How do we explain that this half-sister isn’t invited to the wedding, but that the half-sister’s daughter is?” said Meghan, 41. “With Ashleigh, the guidance at the time was to not have her come to our wedding. I was in the car with H. I had her on speakerphone and we talked her through what guidance we were given and why this assessment was made … and that’s painful.”

“I think I said I was hurt on some level, but I understood where it was coming from,” Ashleigh said. “To know that it was because of my biological mother that this relationship that’s so important to me was impacted in that way … to feel like, because of her it was taken away, has been hard.”

Ashleigh, an immigration attorney, said she and her brother were raised by their paternal grandparents, whom she considers her parents. She had not seen Samantha, 58, since she was 6 until they reconnected in 2007. That was also when Meghan reached out to her niece — a relationship that started with “these long emails back to each other,” Ashleigh recalled. “And then texts and calls. After a while, I think we were talking, on some level, several days a week.”
Meghan said that she believes she and Ashleigh “craved the same thing,” explaining, “I wanted a sister, and she was like a little sister. Ash was put through quite a bit by the media, just by association. And I didn’t want her life to be plagued with all that drama.”

Added Ashleigh of the time when Meghan’s relationship with Harry, 38, became public, “After the news first broke, Samantha pretty quickly began expressing a lot of angry words about Meg towards me. What was communicated to me was maybe some resentment. And it felt like no matter what I said, her perspective didn’t change and seemed to get angrier and bigger, and we stopped talking. Some people you just can’t reason with.”"

Blimey Roussette, somebody somewhere once tweeted it? That's your best source?
I can't help but wonder if Meghan will also claim that she couldn't invite any members of her mother's family because of 'royal guidance'? There are just so many inconsistencies, none of it makes any sense. They even have a very different version of how they met, one from their engagement interview and an updated, different version for Netflix. They must think people are very very stupid.

How do the accounts of how they met differ?

Ohnonevermind · 14/12/2022 11:31

I’m sure the Royal family weren’t as keen on Kate Middleton’s uncle, but she invited him anyway.

Mumsnut · 14/12/2022 11:32

At the engagement, it was called a blind date. Seeing someone on a friend’s Instagram
and asking to be put in touch is the same thin, I would say

one is shorthand for the other

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 14/12/2022 11:32

This. When you think everyone else is the problem, maybe you're the problem.

👏🏼 And yet people will still say there's no common denominator

My friend married a narcissist. She had no members of her family at the wedding. No long standing friends, mainly acquaintances. Seven years on he is more or less estranged from all his family. It's very distressing for those of us who love him. He adores her but he's trapped and unhappy.

Met on a blind date
A friend set them up
Harry saw Megs on Instagram (with a weird dog filter) and begged his friend to introduce them.
Of course, recollections may vary

But wasn’t it said she didn’t know who he was? You’d assume the friend did or else why have him on their Instagram.

Whats the odds of two folk not knowing who Harry is when you are all over soshulmeja like a Labrador on chips?

Ohnonevermind · 14/12/2022 12:59

it reads like they tried different options on test audiences

as cnbc called it ‘beautiful propoganda

I just LOVE that, ArcaneWireless - in fact I love it so much I might pinch it Grin

I doubt she'd have even been called on to "explain", since AFAIK no guest list was issued and the media may well not even have known who Ashleigh was. Even if they did, surely it would have been pretty obvious why Samantha wasn't invited?

Exactly.

She's seizing on things to ding the RF and RF aides with.

Dredging up something like that years afterward shows desperation to depict oneself as a victim.

Quite - and frankly you'd think there'd be better examples which weren't so transparent

Maybe there'll be better ones tomorrow and maybe they'll have actual names attached, but I'm not holding my breath

RescuChickens
I think it's referring to 'vocal fry', a style of speech where the speaker uses a very low drawl from the back of the throat as if they can't be bothered talking or is just so very very tired. I think it's a fairly new thing, I started to notice it about 10 years ago and it's everywhere now. It has varying degrees and Ashleigh's was strong.

Like Robert Peston?

Interesting. How do you know that?
I saw on YouTube that the twitter trailer said, they are happy to lie to protect his brother, but on the netflix website, the trailer said, the media are happy to lie...
If that's true, either whoever did the trailer must have dubbed Harry's voice or Harry did two takes.

Perhaps Princess Pinocchio will one day come up with verifying evidence? Highly unlikely I know but one can live in hope 🤷🏼‍♀️

Lol ... but she ain't no princess 😝

Ohnonevermind · 14/12/2022 19:29

@MarshaMelrose

i said ‘it reads like’ - as in my opinion? I wasn’t trying to imply I read it anywhere (haven’t checked the grazia Twitter feed yet though 😀) so sorry if I gave that opinion

MarshaMelrose · 14/12/2022 20:51

Oh, @Ohnonevermind , I thought there were new facts. I wonder how they got sentences where H says they in one and the media in the other? Some jiggery pokery there.

Do you get paid by the thread OP? 😁

I hope so. It would be a shame to put in so many hours for free.

ArcaneWireless · 14/12/2022 21:13

Regarding those serial posters who persist in putting in their tuppence ha’pennies to show their allegiance, they are probably going to make £1 on a good week.

If only we got the same rate for raised eyebrows and eye-rolls at said posters. And a £5 for every flash of pity.

We’d be rich.

Coronateachingagain · 14/12/2022 21:20

The thing is the fact that none of her family was there except her mother should be a big red light.

And it was
