Unpopular Opinion - William and Kate

Don't come at me, I'm sharing my unpopular opinion because I want to know what you all think but just don't see a spark between William & Kate.

Loved them since the day they starting dating way back when they were undergrads at St Andrews but I just don't see their connection in pictures and it seems a little forced when she has her hand on his back or when they do hold hands.

I don't expect them to hold hands and snog because I know they're mostly photographed whilst they're working but he looks bored and she looks like she's trying her best.

Does anyone agree with me?

I don't think I've said they're half-in. Clearly that isn't the case.

I do think the taking part in so many poor man's versions of the real thing is deliberately done both to taunt and goad. The incidents are becoming more and more outlandish and the palace lying supine is increasingly inexplicable.

There's even a link to the Harolds' self promoting website on the official royal site. Why?!

Give them enough rope and let them hang themselves with it ?

smilesy · 28/06/2024 20:28

I think doing nothing and and even just smiling benignly and ignoring is the best
course of action from the palace. The Sussexes antics are looking increasingly farcical. They are not managing to profit from any of their actions and the palace is just looking more dignified

I agree. They are not “half in”. They wanted to do the glamour bits like the ToC and the State Occasions. They are not doing any of these. Yes they may be trying to milk their Royal connections for commercial gain, but it isn’t really working. They are kind of stuttering along in fits and starts, with great fanfare and little substance. They are doing nothing of any consequence

I thought ToC was only for working Royals? Why would they want to fly from the US to attend an event that had no relevance to them personally? Didn’t M make a dismissive comment to Kate about it when asked what she thought of the event? She doesn’t seem to have been enthused about it and Harry never looked like he was enjoying himself.

Not at all.

Surely the mature response to desperate attempts to 'taunt and goad' is not to take the bait? Surely by resonding, they'd be doing exactly what the Sussexes want them to do? Nothing demonstrates their irrelevance better than simply getting on with things while ignoring the increasingly bizarre shenanigans across the Atlantic.

My guess is it's their way of saying 'If you want to know what they're up to, don't come to us. We don't speak for them'.

I just saw a picture of Sophie at the State banquet held for the Japanese delegation and reflected in a mirror behind her was the Princess of Wales.

CathyorClaire · 28/06/2024 20:49

I think an unexplained and ever extending lack of response to increasingly outlandish sabre rattling is damaging the image and credibility of the monarchy in general and KC in particular but then I would 😁

Appreciate though that even though I'm right it's a minority view here ✌

How do you want them to 'respond' though?

It was made pretty clear by the High Commission in Abuja that the 'tour' in no way represented the monarchy. What else do you think they should have done? Everyone who matters will have known the whole thing was a joke anyway.

They're basically non working royals on a similar level to Beatrice or Eugenie now. And there are certainly no official announcements on anything they do. Surely by getting involved, they would be giving their antics the royal association they so desperately want?

CathyorClaire · 28/06/2024 20:58

Well now, I haven't seen Bea or Euge given vanity blue lighted convoys and outriders lately.

Maybe they could confine Harold to a discreet Uber next time he makes a fly past?

I don't think that was 'vanity'. I think it was because the king was due to leave for Sandringham, and they wanted to make sure Harry got through London traffic as quickly as possible for his brief visit.

As I'm sure you know, RAVEC have decided that Harry does not merit guaranteed security. Hence his daft legal battle.

My point is that he is a non working royal with no official role. Unlike Beatrice and Eugenie, he can't even use the HRH, which is kind of the 'trademark' of royalty.

He and his increasingly desperate antics really are best ignored.

Ah, now. I think that was pandering.

Pa wasn't the one coughing yet he got to keep darling boy sweet and all for free 🤑

So do I. Silence and inaction can't be misinterpreted, it can't be twisted and it can't be misunderstood. What it does do is lure them into doing more and more daft things to prove they're 'quasi royal' and they don't need to be in the RF so there, ner ner ner.

Ignoring someone and saying nothing even under provocation is a very powerful weapon. It shows class and an unwillingness to be drawn into undignified spats. How many times on the relationship board are women advised to ignore and block?

Dignified silence or impotent baited bears?

It really in like when a toddler is trying every trick in their repertoire to get you to react and you don’t. You always have the upper hand. You don’t look impotent

You can only be baited if you respond and get into a tit for tat. And the RF aren't responding.

I'm confused - she wasn't at the Guildhall but was at the palace. Or the other way round Grin

She was definitely at the palace. She had a green frock onSee here She wasn’t at the Guldhall. Apparently she was never meant to be there . Only Edward was

But at the moment - Kate's Trooping of the Colour appearance and her Fathers' Day and William's birthday posts (together with the Ascot family shows of togetherness) have handed Bouzy and the Sussex Squad their asses in a sling.
Newsweek and Page Six and all the rest are pivoting towards the RF.
The RF are doing OK. H&M not so.

They always seem like a real unit together to me. In public they need to perform to an extent.

Are you having a laugh?!

I don't understand this comment. Are u saying Kate wasn't at the banquet? Or am I misunderstanding?
Because she most definitely was.

BemusedAmerican · 29/06/2024 04:49

The palace is nicely supplying material for Harry's court case when asked to do so by the judge. Their dignified silence in that case is paying off well.
