'He knew that he had to remove the Queen from the racist implications' ...
You bet. As I recall, at the end of the Oprah interview programme, someone's voice came on to tell most urgently that the 'racist' person wasn't either the Queen or Prince Philip.
So true. The stupid accusations were bad enough. While it's impossible to see into the souls of people, a) I don't believe W, C, or KC are 'racist' and b) it's beyond belief that any of them would openly display their racism even if they were!! As has been speculated, a remark was probably made which someone with malicious intentions was able to spin.
But to be so cowardly as not to specify whom the culprits were!! That was appalling, because suspicion then falls on everyone, except the Queen who, as you say, they knew they couldn't afford to offend. So self-serving. Those accusations will never completely go away, and Catherine is still paying the price of that, and maybe always will in the eyes of some people whom it suits very well to label the future queen a racist. I see it on other platforms and it's absolutely horrible.
But I lost all respect for Oprah Winfrey too. It was a pathetic interview and her collusion was embarrassing. She needed to say 'That's a very serious allegation. Can you be more specific?' and not let them get away with destroying the reputation of individuals and the RF in general. OK, she couldn't force them to answer, but you can always ask the question, leave a telling silence and make them uncomfortable. But she chose not to do that and I for one am not interested in whinge-fests - I want the other side of the situation put to the interviewees and to see them challenged a bit.
I'm not one of those people who claim that Catherine's illness has been caused by all this, but I bet it hasn't helped and won't be helping now. The accusation against her personally is the reason that the SS bullied her so badly over her absence this year.
