Mike Tindall - I'm a Celebrity

Rumours circulating that he's signed up for the next series of I'm a Celebrity.
I know he and Zara have to make their own money but I find this tasteless and tacky.
Puts me in mind of the Royal It's a Knockout.
Surely they can't be that desperate for cash?

Comes as little surprise that this thread has turned into an H&M bashing.

Harry was recounting what had taken place. The same organisation that is overlooking their lives, but at the same time doesn't want to help them when in need. Yes, they did get help in the end, but they were recalling how, when they asked for help, the firm refused.

Thomas ghosted them, btw.

I also see a lack of faux outrage at Mike doing a Domino Pizza advert now.

Cashing in, is usually the snide remark, I believe.

I know he has a podcast, commentates, does after dinner speeches all related to his sporting career, great.
I just think I'm a celebrity is crossing the line to cashing in on his royal status

He was famous, I'm a Celebrity level famous, before he married into the family.

But we either pay for them all so as not to "sully the good family name" or we let them make their own way. I am all in favour of the latter no matter how stupid i find the whole thing. That is on his conscience, not anyone elses.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 26/10/2022 11:29

For all we know, the RF love the show, or his kids love the show, so he is doing it more for them - I'd imagine he and Zara have discussed it with Anne/William at the very least.

Arnaquer · 26/10/2022 16:59

A domino advert? Must be desperate for cash.

Blimey if this is true I'm really disappointed - not the way to conduct yourself when you marry into royalty imo.

notanotheroneagain · 26/10/2022 17:28

It's not a matter of 'if true', it did actually happen. The advert exists.

He is being praised for his sense of humour.

In his podcast he said he hates wearing his medals and we know very well how certain sections would have come down like a ton of bricks on how 'ungrateful' he is, if he was another royal.

Are you talking about the dominos promo he did along with his gbr podcasters because dominos sponsor the show? Guess what then, he's also done an Amazon prime advert 😂

notanotheroneagain · 26/10/2022 18:39

He does Amazon advert too?

Well, the tabloids have kept that quiet.😂

susan12345678 · 26/10/2022 18:47

The Tindalls don’t have titles, so there’s no issue

Weepingwillows12 · 26/10/2022 19:05

Yep Amazon prime. They aren't adverts on TV as such, but are shown linked to the podcast on YouTube as they both sponsor the pod. Don't think they are shown anywhere apart from in the breaks on the pod but don't quote me. I like the pod though but tend to skip the ads if I can.

Bunsandtophats · 26/10/2022 19:28

The issue for me is that he is now part of the Royal Family and as such is representing them. Having or not having a title is irrelevant - it's just not the sort of behaviour I would expect from someone in his position.

I agree.

susan12345678 · 26/10/2022 20:44

I disagree. I’d have no issues with Harry and Meghan’s various money making schemes either if they surrendered their titles.

notanotheroneagain · 27/10/2022 08:31

You cannot make up protocols as you go. We we're told the reason HRH was taken from the Sussexes was so they don't trade on the title (even though others have done exactly that). Currently they are at the same level as all other titled like H's cousins as well as other Dukes and other titled who are privately making money whilst retaining said titles.

notanotheroneagain · 27/10/2022 08:33

Strange sentence in the end, but I do mean they are like the other Dukes/Earls etc. who all have titles, but make money privately without working for the crown.

JanetSally · 27/10/2022 08:42

Zara is currently promoting some kind of clothing company. She did a short interview with OK this week and the final para was very obviously some kind of press/pr statement.

Serenster · 27/10/2022 08:57

Zara is currently promoting some kind of clothing company.

Musto. She’s been working with them since 2010 actually, as both a brand ambassador and design collaborator in that time.

As neither Mike nor Zara Tindall has a title, the one thing they definitely can’t be accused of is trading on a title! They have never been working Royals and never received public funding. Both forged their own highly successful careers in highly competitive sporting fields. Mike was a World Cup winner and had been awarded an MBE before he and Zara even got together. They are very well known because Zara was the Queen’s granddaughter and is now the King’s niece, but even without that they would have both been well-known (Mike more than Zara, definitely).

Anyway, given this, they are free to do what they want to make money. Just as the Sussexes are, as they are no longer working royals. Like anyone in the public eye, people are entitled to have their own opinions about what they choose to do to make money. If you find Mike going on I’m A Celebrity inappropriate for someone royal-adjacent, that’s fine! You get to have your own opinion. If you find Sarah Ferguson grim for flogging “Dieting with the Duchess” in collaboration, also fine! If you find Harry and Meghan unpleasant for peddling stories about their relatives, also fine!

I agree and it constantly amazes me that they would WANT to retain titles given by a family that has caused them so much pain .
When the Duchess of Kent was going through a difficult time , she dropped her title and taught music under the name Mrs Kent .
It can be done .

notanotheroneagain · 27/10/2022 09:36

Maybe we should change the word 'title' to 'status'. Does that help?

They are trading on their Royal status. If Mike and Zara are making so much money off their own careers alone, then so should their team mates. Mike did not win that World Cup alone, and Zara is not the only great horse riding woman around - did other winners also get paid 100K a pop for advise, and then have the same millionaire appear at a relative's wedding (this is the Hong Kong millionaire to paid Zara for 'horseriding advice' and was at one of the York girls wedding).

To top it off, their celebrity influencer lifestyle has been praised with them raking in millions on brand deals, which include a CBD oil company COVID-19 test results app - last I checked they are not scientists nor medical professionals.

At least the people who are criticising them are consistent , unlike the hypocrites who have been slating H&M while praising these two as well deserved influencers.

Samcro · 27/10/2022 09:41

just because Zara doesn't have a "title" doesn't mean she isn't cashing in on being a royal. if she wasn't a royal would anyone have heard about her?

JustLyra · 27/10/2022 09:45

Many of Mike’s teammates have traded on their World Cup win. James Haskell was on I’m a Celeb as well.

I could see the fuss if it was Zara, but Mike was internationally famous before meeting her. He’s not a titled royal, nor is he trying to combine celeb fame with being a working royal.

Serenster · 27/10/2022 09:49

Also from Mike’s team of World Cup winners, Austin Healey was on Strictly Come Dancing, as was Matt Dawson, who obviously went on to work on A Question Of Sport as well. Kyran Bracken was also on Dancing on Ice.

Even without her royal connection, Zara would still have a profile as a World and European Champion and Olympic silver medallist. Granted, equestrian eventing isn’t as high profile as international rugby, but she would still have been well known in her field.

She’d likely have done a lot more celeb stuff as a non-royal equestrian champion from a rich family.

She’d still have been known.

notanotheroneagain · 27/10/2022 10:23

I was not aware that those other 3 teammates of Mike also make hundreds of thousands /millions off totally unrelated things that involve science etc. What projects are those?

As for Zara, at some point in her promotion and merching in Australia - where there is a LOT of royal name dropping, I may add -, she won a silver medal. Technically, we should know the gold and bronze (gold medalist at least). I cannot for the life of me name a famous winner who is constantly promoting anything really.
