Anyone else think The Times should not be printing extracts from this new book about Royal Courtiers at this time? Incredibly stupid given that H&M are trying to mend fences? I feel really quite cross for everyone involved - William's efforts to build bridges etc, all going to be in vain now. Very naughty.

Why the rudeness to DFOD?

Roussette · 27/09/2022 07:32

I have checked it thanks. You are twisting my words

Why don't you just move on Sally instead of trying to stir everything up. It's not nice.

In the context of the post, I was quite obviously not telling someone to leave the thread. I have never done that in my life and I was not doing it then. Anyone can post anywhere, it's nothing to do with me. I would not dream of telling someone to leave the thread.

move on means moving on from the argument. It had calmed down and bring it up again the next morning was just stirring the pot.

RandomPenguinHouse · 27/09/2022 07:33

In fairness, I read @Roussette ’s “move on” to Sally to mean move on from that part of the discussion, rather than move on to off the thread. But it is ambiguous, and rude, so I can see why it was interpreted differently.

DFOD · 27/09/2022 07:36

Roussette · 27/09/2022 07:23

OK... so my courage and decency is being questioned now. I haven't scrolled back and looked at what you actually did say, I would love it if posters on here would apply that to me when they have been incorrect at what they have levelled at me.
Just stop with the inflammatory language of courage and decency.

Just stop with the inflammatory language of courage and decency.

Inflammatory? Surely that’s a benchmark we are all working to?

I agree.

RandomPenguinHouse · 27/09/2022 07:43

I’ve been fair in saying how I interpreted your ‘move on’ post to not mean what leave the thread. Now I’m waiting for you to confirm that @IrisVersicolor was lying or at least mistaken when she said I harangued you.

RandomPenguinHouse · 27/09/2022 07:44

Meant to address the above to @Roussette

You are the twisting words. Here they are again.

I specifically said to move on from calling people liars and hypocrites

You did not say anything specific about moving on from calling people liars and hypocrites.

You said:

Why don't you just move on Sally instead of trying to stir everything up. It's not nice.

It would be gracious, decent and courageous to say - ‘sorry I can see how that could be misinterpreted - let me clarify further…’

Roussette · 27/09/2022 07:46

RandomPenguinHouse · 27/09/2022 07:26

@Roussette seriously? You’re questioning my language and playing the ‘didn’t scroll back’ card?

I’ll ask nicely. Please scroll back, check my posts and then say whether I did or did not harangue you, and if so, how.

I promise you in all sincerity that I would do the same for you.

Scroll back card? Why is everyone so sarky on here.

I have no idea what you want me to say. I have looked up the meaning of harangue and I am treading very carefully here. Because as you well know, whatever I say will be picked over, criticised, twisted, and might well involve a pile on.

Harangue means this... a scolding or a long or intense verbal attack

No intense verbal attack but there was scolding. You talked of my faux shock, my naievety with a 'bully for you' thrown in for good measure.

You have insisted I go back and check, I have.

Because I cannot for the life of me see how that can be misinterpreted unless you were looking to mistinterpret it.

I have never in all the years I have been on here, told someone to leave a thread, and I would not out the blue, do that now.

Total misintretation by you to have a dig.

I have replied.

Now awaits a complete and utter string of criticisms by everyone on here!

Bracing myself!

Roussette · 27/09/2022 07:53

So bottom line... harangue (as I understood it) is too strong a word in the context of our conversation. However, a scolding does seem to be appropriate.

Is that enough for us to put this to bed? Or not?

You did not say this at all.

Own that - it’s there in black at white.

I own it.

Get out the blackboard. Put a mark on it under your name. You've won.

Are you OK with that now? Or the fact that it was obvious to me and others on this thread that I was not telling anyone to leave the thread is completely irrelevant? But you have managed to call me out on something else means well done for winning anyway. 👍

I’ve not read everything apart from the last few posts.

Some days if I need distracting or I’m have a bed day (RA) then I will post more than others. If I’m busy I don’t. I don’t think that’s unusual.

It doesn't seem unusual.
Iris was saying she'd been ill in bed; recently Rousette said she'd felt unwell with a bad reaction to a Covid vaccine (I think?).
In the past, other posters have mentioned spending more time than usual on MN because they're ill.
Is it possible that things can get a bit more heated if people post more when they're ill?
I know I'm more irritable than usual (Ikr, scary!) when I'm feeling under the weather.
Anyway, hope those who are poorly feel better soon Flowers

PinkTonic · 27/09/2022 08:05

I’ve been reading this thread for a couple of days as I think the Times excerpts and indeed the whole debate are interesting. It’s very clear that the rudeness, derailing, snark, playing the man not the ball etc. all comes from one side, and it’s not the M&H critical side. The defending is rabid, and almost appears coordinated. I genuinely couldn’t be arsed to count anyone’s posts but it’s struck me that the ultra prolific posters always seem to be conveniently ill in bed or off work bored with nothing better to do when one of these threads pops up. 🤔

Roussette · 27/09/2022 08:05

recently Rousette said she'd felt unwell with a bad reaction to a Covid vaccine (I think?).

Yes. But it was only 24 hours. And not covid jab but I always have a bad reaction to the flu jab which I got at the same time. And I always spend the day after like a wrung out dishrag.
Thanks LaM I feel top notch now.

LaMarschallin · 27/09/2022 08:06

I mean: other posters may be ill too; not just those I mentioned and I didn't mean it to read like the two posters I mentioned are especially heated.
Just that it may be a general trend for anyone to post more when they're feeling too unwell to do anything much else.

RocketsMagnificent7 · 27/09/2022 08:07

I'm a long-time lurker on this part of the board but I have to comment here. You keep accusing others of being sarky @Roussette and yet you post comments like the above, and this isn't the first 'sarky' comment from you. Glasshouses and stones comes to mind.

Yes of course. I have had posters following me around and picking up on just one sentence to have a go. Twisting it and changing it to have a pop. But I just have to take it. And not retaliate.

Sorry. No can do.

Thank you Roussette.

The key part of 'haranguing' is that it is a forceful telling off at length. Which you agree I didn't do, so thank you for confirming I didn't harangue you.

If you are accusing me of scolding, then you have to accuse yourself too as well as many other posters. Many of us have rebuked each other.

'The bully for you' was sarcasm in return for your sarcasm/passive aggression. You made a point about how you don't search posters but that "you know others do", when those statements weren't relevant.

You'll note that when you said earlier you saw an offending comment but didn't want to point it out for fear of attack, and that you knew that was cowardly of you, me and everyone else didn't respond. We could have jumped on that and agreed with you, we didn't. It was a fair comment by you with some vulnerability and I respected that.

I've been falsely accused by Iris of several things including haranguing MM which I also demonstrably haven't done. You may remember Roussette that you and I agreed that MM had been unfairly treated by the press. Nor did I harangue you. Since you scolded Sally and others, perhaps you could even-handedly scold Iris too for her lies and mud-flinging. But if you don't feel brave enough to do so, fair enough Smile

LaMarschallin · 27/09/2022 08:09

Glad to hear it, Roussette Smile
A friend I saw yesterday said she'd had a much worse reaction to the vaccine this time round.
Got mine soon...yikes!

LaMarschallin · 27/09/2022 08:11

PS Sorry!
Just realised you said flu, not Covid

Roussette · 27/09/2022 08:13

LaMarschallin · 27/09/2022 08:11

Yes, covid was a doddle... a bit of a sore am but flu arm was worse and I have history with feeling yuk for 24 hours after it so I assume it was the flu jab!

However, I was just so so grateful to get it.

Snog · 27/09/2022 08:16

Rousette you yourself have criticised another poster for using supposed "inflammatory language" - the words courage and decency - yet you have also accused my behaviour of being "stalkerish" because you don't want it highlighted how many times you have posted on this thread. I would say that your own language is way more inflammatory and I call hypocrisy.
