Anyone else think The Times should not be printing extracts from this new book about Royal Courtiers at this time? Incredibly stupid given that H&M are trying to mend fences? I feel really quite cross for everyone involved - William's efforts to build bridges etc, all going to be in vain now. Very naughty.

Tips over at about 2% extra visitor.

So potentially 98% of visitors not interested in RF - wonder what the ROW is for the U.K. tax payer?

People (on here) will say the RF bring thousands of people to London. I have to say I'm sceptical. I went to London and visited Buckingham Palace but I'd have gone if the royal family didn't exist too. In the same way as I visited the pyramids in Egypt and the area where the Berlin Wall once stood. London is a vibrant exciting city in itself. Does it need the draw of an extremely wealthy family to bring tourists? I don't think so.

There will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth at this one. Did anyone mention Versailles... 😆

LondonWolf · 26/09/2022 17:48

London!? No way. Not the capital of that racist, unwelcoming nation who the whole world despises and are laughing at?

Yes that terrible place that people flew into from all over the world to join the Queue for the lying in state.

DuchessOfPort · 26/09/2022 17:57

Remarkable isn’t it?!

I don’t mind admitting that when I went round Windsor Castle, I did crane my neck at dark cars and imagine what the royal Christmases were like before they moved to Sandringham.

I have been round Versailles too but it’s different. History and beautiful architecture and gardens etc but it’s a bygone era. HMQ was living in Windsor Castle and it made it living history IYSWIM.

one is not better than the other but I quite liked my glimpses of various royals in real life (mostly in cars).

also - what greenhousegal said!
😆

Readinginthesun · 26/09/2022 18:00

You are right , I remember reading that plus when The Queen said Frogmore , they thought she meant Frogmore House rather than cottage .
Having said that , I am not sure I would call a 10 bedroomed home a cottage !

Readinginthesun · 26/09/2022 18:02

That was in response to @ThighMistress

Coucous · 26/09/2022 18:29

Roussette · 26/09/2022 13:08

Believe me, I saw it and winced. But calling it out might well have opened myself up to criticism, cowardly I know.

Wow! Sorry that's something I have only heard from racist people - we don't address people as "coloured person" - are you in the UK?

The poster has already apologised . They are not in the U.K.

Oh come on, if you saw this post by Roussette, then you clearly saw my post that Roussette was responding to saying similar to you, then the poster concerned apologising and explaining.

This is just sticking the boot in.

Exactly - just another excuse to shout racist .

RandomPenguinHouse · 26/09/2022 19:05

Quite Reading.

The disingenuousness is repulsive.
They posted straight after the offending post, possibly didn’t see it but have clearly read others since.
But the only post they register is by someone who is supposedly ‘on the same side’ as them. It’s insulting to both me & Arabesque.

RandomPenguinHouse · 26/09/2022 19:06

By ‘they’ I obviously mean @Coucous

I didn't actually - I am busy today sorry. I did see only afterwards that the poster apologised which is nice. Surprised nobody else who hates Meghan bothered to correct the poster. If it was Rousette or someone similar calling someone racist she would have been crucified!

SilverLiningPlaybook · 26/09/2022 19:36

Nobody hates Meghan.

Coucous · 26/09/2022 19:38

Whatever - you get my point. A couple of days ago posters attacked @Roussette for apparently not calling out a pro-Meghan poster for insulting someone. It went on and on even hours after she wasn't online because apparently she should have seen it and said something! The double standards!

Coucous · 26/09/2022 19:42

RandomPenguinHouse · 26/09/2022 19:06

You are ridiculous - you think I live on this forum? I just read the last page which appeared and clicked reply/ quote then when I had time read back and saw the poster actually apologised. Stop being nasty. It wont phase me at all. Tag me and post whatever - I will have a good night sleep

greenhousegal · 26/09/2022 19:49

I see that the much maligned (to many posters on the holiday board anyway) Dublin has a visitor number equal to the entire population of the country. Wow that is a surprise to me anyway. But I do like visiting Ireland so I may be biased. No RF there and a shock horror elected President as HOS too.

Take a bow Dublin.

Serenster · 26/09/2022 19:59

The city with the most tourists in Europe is Paris …. what they did to their monarchy hasn’t held them back….

I listened to really fascinating series of podcasts about the history of tourism recently, and it was pointing out that since the upper classes of the 17th and 18th centuries popularised the idea of the “Grand Tour”, visiting France and Italy (and, obviously, Paris and Rome) has been established as the pinnacle of sightseeing as a way of experiencing the pinnacle of Western and classical civilianisation. That bias has survived, and flourished both in Europe and now in the US now too. The US interest in travelling to France also draws on the close connections between France and the US as revolutionary states who threw off their royal leaders and set up as Republics in the same generation (with considerable cross-fertilisation).

ThighMistress · 26/09/2022 16:54

I see I was right about their wanting Windsor Castle…. I posted on here yonks ago that I had heard on extremely good authority that M&H asked The Queen if they could live there, but they got Frogspawn Cottage instead which did not go down well. Now new book reports that this was indeed the case.

I think M &H really had the idea of eclipsing PW &K, living in a “castley” castle, near Heathrow and hosting celebrities and the great and the good such as the Obamas, George Clooney and so on. Being stuck in a cottage, opening community centres in Corby and sitting the second row at events - no way.

Do you think HM the late Queen twigged that? And thus thwarted what she saw as, shall we say, precocious ambition? Just musing.

Exactly. But I can't be arsed to talk of the double standards on here! The case of me apparently having to call out an insult when I wasn't even online was pathetic. On and on for a long time, all my fault, and really rude.

Well done the poster for apologising and googling why it was wrong. That's all anyone should do isn't it? Learn and improve, we all get it wrong sometimes, I know I do.

I would think the Queen just has a very clear idea of what is appropriate for the stage and seniority of each member of the family. I’m sure she did twig though.

I wonder if King Charles will be more likely to "collaborate"? 😂

I’m not surprised it’s being released now to counter the Meghan has been badly wronged stories. She sounds like an awful person to work for despite her carefully cultivated public image. I wonder if deep down Harry regrets marrying her yet.

Probably not- Harry seems to have met his partner that mirrors his victimhood.
It’s a strange relationship- She appears to want wealth and fame and worldwide adoration -
He wants a Mummy and someone exciting sexually- just my opinion-
Harry is being used, for sure, but doubt if he regrets it .
They can whinge and play the victim forever-
It’s likely he’s the sock puppet.

What was portentous was Meghan’s brother’s letter to Harry written in 2018-
Saw it yesterday, and it’s spot on! The brother clearly knows his half sister.
