Why won't Biden get the bus?

Interesting that so many world leaders are happy to as they understand the logistics and practicalities of everyone coming in their own cars but not the US? Does he get that this isn't about him? He's a guest like everyone else, not the star attraction.

No other head of state is as prone to assassination. It’s not worth the risk.

Plexie · 18/09/2022 08:19

It's not his personal decision, the US President always uses their own transport abroad. Presumably so that their security staff have more control over their protection. It would be the case whoever were president.

butterfliedtwo · 18/09/2022 08:36

Security protocol.

nachoavocado · 18/09/2022 08:38

I think the US president gets shot a lot historically.

Agree.

I don't begrudge him.

Why are you reporting it? Made me laugh!

😁

Yep, based on past events, US Presidents tend to be at high risk of getting shot.

puffylovett · 18/09/2022 08:56

The other half says it’s because he’s senile and can’t be allowed to mix unless heavily medicated. Then proceeded to show me a video of him trying to shake hands with thin air after a speech :( poor bloke.

BonesOfWhatYouBelieve · 18/09/2022 08:59

I listened to something on the radio where they spoke to an ex-police officer (I think, someone previously involved in security for things like royal weddings etc) and he said that while they requested the heads of state to travel by bus they will have known that some countries won't ever have done that due to security risks. The president of Israel is also taking his own transport.

Ohnonevermind · 18/09/2022 09:03

Biden wouldn’t be allowed on a bus like that.

BruceAndNosh · 18/09/2022 09:05

Thank God trump isn't still in post.
He would DEFINITELY make it all about him

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 18/09/2022 09:07

Common sense!

knitnerd90 · 18/09/2022 09:09

The Secret Service have said it can't be allowed; it's not Biden making a fuss personally.

???

Redqueenheart · 18/09/2022 09:12

I would never expect a US president to go on a bus.

The security risk is too great and there have been too many precedents of the leaders of that nation being shot out to even consider doing this.

Nothing to do with Biden's personal decision this is just how their security protocols are.

Obvious I would say...

BruceAndNosh · 18/09/2022 09:14

Maybe his Oystercard has expired

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 18/09/2022 09:19

Biden’s appearances have to be very carefully managed ( anyone remember the Cornish wander?) .

he’d probably try to drive the bus, or at least claim to have driven it.

CrystalCoco · 18/09/2022 09:20

What the heck have I just read?

Why would anyone expect Biden and the likes to get on a bus?

I'm just a regular joe, no risk of assassination to me (that I'm aware of!) and I still wouldn't get on a bus - other than the hop on/hop off ones when I'm on holiday, I do like those 😬

???

I was half sleeping and managed somehow to confuse myself because I read the OP again but not the title. If only we had an edit button.

How vile.

He's elderly but far from senile. Unlike his predecessor.

cyclamenqueen · 18/09/2022 09:22

It’s also because he will be staying at the US residence which is in Regents Park so it would make no sense for the Police and traffic systems to have to manage the US calvalcade ( it’s always a calvalcade) going out to West London and then back again etc easiest just to let them travel separately , also makes security easier for all the other Heads of State who won’t have to deal with the US security stuff.

sashagabadon · 18/09/2022 09:24

He’s head of the free world I guess. More enemies than most other heads of state. No one is going to go to massive lengths to assassinate the Australian pm for example. Also the former Japanese pm has recently been shot dead. Who would risk it??

LadyHarmby · 18/09/2022 09:25

US Presidents have a history of being shot because they live in a country where anyone can get a gun. His risk of getting shot in the UK, where no one carries guns, is no greater than any other leader, surely?
