Classy thread.

MolliciousIntent · 17/09/2022 08:39

I dunno OP, if you die who's taking care of your kids?

JulesCobb · 17/09/2022 08:39

It is common to think about death when dealing with death, so I don't think the question is ‘unclassy’. It is curiosity on how the system works.

i was wondering myself about line of succession. Does the order of in line to the throne still stand if the next in line dies while still in line. So, if William is to tragically die before Charles, does it switch to Harry, or stay with George?

spanieleyes · 17/09/2022 08:41

It stays with George, then Charlotte and Louis, Harry would be after that lot!

Arbesque · 17/09/2022 08:42

Edward or Anne possibly.

Stays with George - just like our Late Queen's father dying meant the crown was passed to her

Catherine or Edward.

Harry has made it clear he wants his own life. Fair play to him.

Andrew is obviously unacceptable.

Edward appears solid. As does Anne (although Anne is in her seventies herself... Edward is a lot younger than Charles)

But I have no idea of protocol!

J0y · 17/09/2022 08:45

Anne would be too old.
Edward or Kate.

LosingTheWill2022 · 17/09/2022 08:46

In this wildly hypothetical scenario, Anne or Edward are the obvious options for Regency as they would understand the role best as the most senior working royals.

Bestcatmum · 17/09/2022 08:46

Anne..

MuddlerInLaw · 17/09/2022 08:47

The OP wasn’t asking about the line of succession but about how a Regent might be chosen if George should succeed to the throne when he’s still a child and therefore not capable of performing the role of king yet.

And surely it’s ridiculous to recoil from this aspect of maintaining a royal family?

Dinoteeth · 17/09/2022 08:48

I'd want Ann but she probably would do the jib from a Duty point but wouldn't really want it.

I'm sure their must be some protocol on who would be Regent.

I was reading about this the other day. Apparently there are four people and I think Andrew is one of them. And isn't included because she was never eligible to be queen.

J0y · 17/09/2022 08:51

I reckon Charles will be around until George turns 21.

J0y · 17/09/2022 08:52

I think William and George will both be 53 ish when they get the big job.

burnoutbabe · 17/09/2022 08:52

Eldest daughter of Andrew? If working down succession line and ignoring those who have left total family or are under age

J0y · 17/09/2022 08:53

Which I suppose is more normal. The Queen got the gig so young, she had no youth. Charles had too much 'youth' waiting.
50s is better.

Anne has always been in the line of succession, just after her brothers. If her 3 brothers had died before having children Anne would have been Queen.

Meghan

Yes, I agree.😀

toomuchlaundry · 17/09/2022 08:56

Does it go down the line of succession, so the first adult would be Harry then Andrew (neither good choices) then Andrew’s daughters.

Kate wouldn’t be eligible as not in the line of succession

felulageller · 17/09/2022 08:57

I think it's a fair question to ask as royal history is peppered with this scenario.

Usually the mother of the child wants to/ tries to be Regent but often come into conflict with male relatives of the deceased Monarch.

See:
Elizabeth Woodville v Richard III
Almost Queen Victoria's mother v her uncles
James V's mother Margaret Tudor v his cousins
