Queued with the public for 12 hours, and wearing a shirt and tie.

Unlike others who have been ushered in as 'press' or VIPs.

I thought it was a nice thing to do. I don’t think it was publicity-seeking at all. I think he genuinely wanted to pay his respects to the Queen and the long queuing was part of that.

I’m no fan of football, but David Beckham has always struck me as having a good heart. Nobody’s perfect but he’s more genuine than many other celebs, and I believe him when he says he wanted to queue with everyone else and pay his respects.

Anyone understand the Qatar reference?

It’s ridiculous there’s a VIP queue at all. If they’re going down that route then with all the organisation entailed they should have also just started charging different prices for the event (Fast Track) etc and they could have easily raised a few million quid for charities which will desperately be needed with winter coming.

He's done well for himself hasn't he, the son of a hairdresser and a kitchen fitter, had a natural talent for football and excelled in it.

Married, has 4 lovely children and now enjoys wealth, but still deep down he's that Londoner that will stand for 12 hours in a queue to pay his respect To The Queen.

No don't be silly, he's definitely only doing it for a knighthood, don'cha know Hmm

Queue It Like Beckham 👏🏻

CPL593H · 17/09/2022 08:46

He apparently was asked if he wanted to be escorted through by security to the vip queue but he declined (this is according to sky and itv news) so fair play to him. Unlike Phillip Schofield and Holly Willougby who didn't queue.

Not surprised Holly didn't que I honestly can't stand her she's fake and dramatic at the best of times.

SwapPlaces · 17/09/2022 08:59

Absolutely agree OP - it reflects well on him.

Abraxan · 17/09/2022 09:00

Samcro · 16/09/2022 22:01

I just don’t believe he did

The people around he claim he did.
I've no reason to disbelieve those people, so who knows? Maybe they are all in in a lie I guess.

Frazzled2207 · 17/09/2022 09:06

I totally believe he did but surely it’s a PR stunt- he put his foot in it about wanting the knighthood didn’t he

not surprised at all that Victoria didn’t fancy it though

NanaNelly · 17/09/2022 09:15

DB has explained he was brought in a family of Royalists and his grandparents who brought him up would stand for the national anthem always - it used to be on the tv late at night back in the day.

he has said he’s a Royalist and t as well as doing it for himself he was also doing it for his grandparents.

WhiskerPatrol · 17/09/2022 09:28

I was in the queue yesterday. Didn't see Becks but for @QuebecBagnet @vroom321 and anyone else wondering:

  • you get a sticky wristband when you join the queue, I suppose if you managed to have it put on loosely you could slide it off to give it to someone else with the same size hand as you but they're the sort that can't be reused (re employee stand-in rumour), and they were checked along the route with the wristband colour changed at regular intervals so people can't get one at the back and then run up to push in near the front
  • we took turns to leave the queue for coffee/toilet, and also made friends with the people in front of and behind us so that we could come back in at the same spot

  • my job involves working with rich and famous people and while I have not personally met David Beckham I have never heard a bad word about him from people who have - and we do talk!

TheOtherWoman2 · 17/09/2022 09:34

God didn’t think I could fancy him anymore than I already did! What a lovely man, so respectful. I think it is quite ridiculous to jump to conclusion that it’s publicity etc, I don’t think for the sake of publicity even the beckhams would queue for 11 hours in the cold with no security, alone. Loved the video of him with the others, chatting about the snacks - he brought donuts along! Gorgeous man

TheOtherWoman2 · 17/09/2022 09:34

Forgot to add - I think it’s beyond sweet that he got dressed up smart for it too. He really does love the royal family what a great example

This may have already been posted, and sorry it's from the DF, but this is a lovely article about it.
He did it for his grandad. He also did it because he was genuinely close to the RF.
Please can we stop being so cynical about it?
From everything I've seen and read about Becks, there seems no reason to doubt that he's a genuinely lovely person.

jacostajune · 17/09/2022 09:43

Plus yes @TheOtherWoman2 he's also bloody gorgeous, and has got more handsome with age too!

TiddyTidTwo · 17/09/2022 09:45

Beckham has replaced Paddington in my eyes and marmalade sandwiches for Pringles and donuts.

Just1thing · 17/09/2022 09:47

Shiboleth1 · 16/09/2022 22:12

He's massively pissed off he hasn't had been knighted. I'm assuming this is tactical PR

Exactly this! It’s blatant!

jacostajune · 17/09/2022 09:51

@Just1thing rather than his own personal reasons as explained below? Why?

Hotandbothereds · 17/09/2022 09:56

KateLumley · 17/09/2022 04:00

I like this idea, so many sour pusses these days.

Yes, can we make this a thing!

Hotandbothereds · 17/09/2022 10:06

WimbyAce · 16/09/2022 22:19

Just odd for him to be there literally on his own. Fair play though.

I was in London on Weds and you literally couldn’t turn your head but see police presence or a security guard, can’t see any reason why absolutely anyone wouldn’t feel they could just be on their own if they decided to queue.
