Do Camilla and Charles live separately?

She was dropped off in Wiltshire. I was surprised they didn't stay together today.

I'm not hating btw just genuinely curious and I kind of admire her for creating her own space if
It's true.

ALSO, because it's driving me crazy, did Anne and Tim separate briefly back in the nougties?

I'm sure I remember it being announced on Sky, but it was never mentioned again and he seemed to continue accompanying her to Royal engagements.

Growing up, there were always rumours that either Andrew or Edward was gay.

I'm sure there'll also be rumours about George, Charlotte and Louis in years to come:

Oh he's a bit arty he must be gay

Oh she was seen in a car with a married man. They're obviously having an affair.

Poor things.

lightisnotwhite · 17/09/2022 09:15

@Arbesque Theatre types talk to each other not to the press. I would say the evidence Edward had a gay relationship was pretty strong.

On the other hand I never heard anything about Andrew being gay. Indeed he was clearly having a ball with a string of women. Maybe sex parties were the source of gay rumours The thing I ever heard was about him being arrogant and unpleasant to work with.

What evidence? That some people are nasty gossips?

Quite. I don't recollect people were very bothered by the Edward "rumours" then and are even less so now. It must be galling though, 20 odd years of what seems like solid marriage later and people are still rehashing gossip about your (perfectly legal) sexuality.

Dave20 · 17/09/2022 14:29

The thing with the Royals is, the newspapers could state rumours and know that The Royals wouldn’t answer back. So easy to make false or rumoured headlines.

antelopevalley · 17/09/2022 14:34

Except they do answer back. Either press injunctions, or articles get pulled from the press.
When there is something true they can't keep a lid on it though.

antelopevalley · 17/09/2022 14:36

Nobody said Edward was gay because he was arty. They said that because there was no woman on the scene, and various people who worked in the arts kept saying he was gay.
He may be bisexual? But I think there clearly was an interest in other men.

TheGander · 17/09/2022 14:44

To be fair a lot of people especially gay
men used to say Albert of
Monaco was gay, then illegitimate kids started to emerge.

cyclamenqueen · 17/09/2022 14:49

In the 1970s and early 1980s I lived in a part of the world which was well known for having a large gay community . Andrew was a regular and not very discreet visitor to the area.

Two of the Queens uncles were bisexual so it would not be surprising, and frankly what’s the issue in Edwards case. He ultimately chose a woman as his life partner and by all accounts they are very happy and committed, they have also brought up two seemingly well balanced and happy children.

in Andrews case something clearly went badly wrong but it’s not the fact of his sexual preferences it’s how he personally chose to behave.which is the problem.

HeddaGarbeld · 17/09/2022 14:50

They absolutely did! This was the 80s and 90s. It was exactly the sort of thing people said.

antelopevalley · 17/09/2022 14:56

@HeddaGarbeld Maybe amongst homophobes? Not in the circles I moved.
Instead I heard lots of stories like @cyclamenqueen outlines.

HeddaGarbeld · 17/09/2022 15:11

Well yes obviously by many people who were homophobic @antelopevalley I repeat that this was the 80s and 90s. I’m very surprised you didn’t hear this. I was also “in the theatre world” in the 90s and people in theatre would laugh about the trope that arty man = gay because, frankly, there was a fair bit of truth to it. Those in the arts were more likely to be “out” because it was accepted and the norm.

antelopevalley · 17/09/2022 15:14

I know gay men in the arty world were more likely to be out. So were gay men and lesbians working with people with learning disabilities. So were gay men working in hospitality. There were certain areas of work where there was far less homophobia.

Why? Do you know him?

It's not hereditary. Honestly the rubbish spotted on here.

Your posts get more bizarre.

antelopevalley · 17/09/2022 15:38

@Arbesque Not at all. These were areas of work in the eighties and nineties where you could find plenty of out lesbian and gay men. In other areas of work b=novody would have dared been out.

Yes there was a lot of ignorant stereotyping. He had left the marines and was seen in tears around the same time. Then he started working in the theatre. So of course he was obviously a big girl's blouse who was gay.

vera99 · 17/09/2022 15:51

Most emotionally dysfunctional men who have experienced single-sex boy schools during adolescence and its raging hormones have dabbled in homosexuality. It goes with the territory.

antelopevalley · 17/09/2022 15:51

And lots of stories of him visiting gay bars and clubs.

Dinoteeth · 17/09/2022 15:53

@Arbesque how old was he when he was in tears? I remember seeing it, to me he was an adult but actually he might have been quite young.

Yes, that’s the point I was making!

If you know this then I find it bizarre you didn’t know that some people & papers said it implied that Edward being arty was a sign he was gay.

@Arbesque yes exactly, “big girl’s blouse”.

Gordenstoun was co-ed when they were there , I had friends at school with them and several female cousins of the royals for example Lady Helen Windsor were also there at the same time. It had a reputation for being quite a racey place to be honest .

These will be our future better and elders not the sort of folk you get in the People's Queue I would hazard a guess but Daddy's in the Lords and can probably wrangle a few freebies should the need arise.
