Do Camilla and Charles live separately?

She was dropped off in Wiltshire. I was surprised they didn't stay together today.

I'm not hating btw just genuinely curious and I kind of admire her for creating her own space if
It's true.

ALSO, because it's driving me crazy, did Anne and Tim separate briefly back in the nougties?

I'm sure I remember it being announced on Sky, but it was never mentioned again and he seemed to continue accompanying her to Royal engagements.

If you read period novels it's quite common for upper class/aristocratic couples to have separate 'establishments'.

Churchill and his wife Clementine spent weeks and months apart, and wrote adoring letters to each other.

Perhaps absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Or perhaps in my case with a late military husband my experience was,

"absence keeps your house cleaner for longer" 🤣

As a widow now I don't think I could ever go back to having a man in my house 😳

Well they obviously have blended to an extent given that Camilla’s granddaughter was a flower girl at William and Kate’s wedding, and quite famously has a little toy in her hand in some of the photos that was given to her by Harry.

Yes but Camillas DC and DGC are normally out of the spotlight. There's nothing wrong with not wanting to live together 100 percent of the time particularly in a second marriage. It works for my DF .

If he becomes a us citizenship, he'll have to give up being a prince and a Dduke. But Meghan can still keep the titles. How funny.
They'll be Mr Wales and the Duchess.

Harry wouldn't be Mr Wales would he? Wouldn't he either be Windsor or Sussex?

onlythreenow · 16/09/2022 09:52

I find it frightening how little most people on these boards seem to know about British history generally, including the monarchy . So much information is second hand, garnered nonsense from tabloids. It’s truly depressing.

Well said. I don't even live in the UK but know far more than many of the people on MN. Some people believe everything they read in the tabloids and seem to think life is one big soap opera.

Zonder · 16/09/2022 09:54

If it's true about Anne and APB it would be kind of bizarre really. One sibling loved Camilla, married someone else and ends up with her in later life. The other sibling has a thing with Camilla's husband, married two other people then ends up with him in later life.
Bet Jilly Cooper wishes she had thought of that plot line!

NiqueNique · 16/09/2022 09:56

@onlythreenow the type of people who think in Kardashian terms.

He won't loose Prince I don't think, he was born one it's a title through birth, he could loose his HRH officially rather than not use it but he would still be Prince.

He also has other hereditary titles not just the Royal Duke title as far as I know.

I've always wondered about Archie and Lilibet when they start school, wonder if other children won't believe them at first that their grandad is The King of Great Britain 🤣 you know what kids are like. Show and tell could be interesting....lol

Andrew fought in the Falklands in a very dangerous role.

Harry did his tours in Afghanistan and did no more than Andrew did. Of course he’s not the most entitled to wear his uniform.

Charles served in the RAF as well as the Navy.

Not according to my ex-RN ex-husband, whose ship was at the Falklands. He and his ex-matelot mates would swear blind that Andrew never flew anywhere near any serious action.

You might be right. I know he was called Wales when he was at school. Mr Windsor-Mountbatten and The Duchess of Sussex, then.

I'm trying to dig up the memory of Anne and Tim's marriage breakdown and I think
The Queen told her a second divorce was not possible.

Well there's nothing to stop them now;it's not like divorce isn't common in the royal family;Princess Margaret got a divorce as have Charles,Anne and Andrew along with Peter Phillips.

MarshaMelrose · 16/09/2022 10:05

If he becomes a US citizen, he has to renounce all his titles, not just HRH. At least that's,what I read. US citizens are allowed to keep a title given by a foreign govt, so Meghan could stay a duchess. But because she got the title through him, maybe she'd have to give it up too? And would want to as well.

Hmm maybe you are right then!

They would be Mr and Mrs Mountbatten - Windsor.

Makes sense also why they wanted to be half in half out and him to remain a British citizen doesn't it, so he could retain his titles.

Mind you he could literally just change his name to Prince Harry, I mean Tyson Fury's kids one of them is called Prince isn't he? Sure Katy Price has one called Princess also 🤷🏻‍♀️

MarshaMelrose · 16/09/2022 10:19

😂😂😂
He could even stick an HRH in their somewhere. As automatic dual citizens, I wonder if the children would keep the titles. It could be that the kids and Meghan end up with all the titles and the only person to have lived in the family ends up with nothing. Its funny how life works sometimes.

onlythreenow · 16/09/2022 10:23

@NiqueNique - exactly, the Kardashians and their ilk have a lot to answer for!

Dinoteeth · 16/09/2022 10:24

I'm sure if Ann wanted a divorce they'd be living separate lives and he wouldn't be beside her supporting her now.
Maybe they did have a rocky patch but they seem happy now.

NiqueNique · 16/09/2022 10:30

Yes I think it’s much more likely that they worked through the difficult patch and have found themselves happy together again.

Anyone expecting PDA or fussiness/excess emotion from Princess Anne is quite unaware of her personality and her approach to Royal duties. She is old school.

antelopevalley · 16/09/2022 10:34

Perhaps they are together, perhaps they are separated but friendly and he turned up to support her. Not all exes hate each other.

That's what I hate as well. People speculate on public forums about the very private lives and marriages of the royal family as if they are characters in Coronation Street. They don't seem to give any thought to the damage they could be doing.

You see it in workplaces as well. Rumours that could break up a marriage being gleefully spread around based on 2 people seen having a coffee together or sharing a lift home from work.

Arbesque · 16/09/2022 10:40

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 16/09/2022 09:15

You can report posts if you think they're inappropriate, spreading rumours and telling lies.

Or I can call them out at the time.

Yes, if reporting the post results in removal of the post along with your calling it out, the thread is disrupted and we don't get the benefit of the discussion do we?

The Royal Family and press constantly feed us stories about their perfect marriages, perfect behaviour and happy children. That is why whenever there are any signs this picture is not true, people speculate.
It is the same with Hollywood celebrities. Nobody speculates about the stars marriages where the star is private. But those who share lots of information in public about how perfect their marriage is do attract speculation.

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 16/09/2022 10:51

Someone says something you don't like or disagree with. You have two options.

  1. "Call them out". That way all the posts remain and the discussion remains intact.
  1. Report the post as not being in the spirit of Mumsnet, offensive or whatever and the post is taken down. Then the whole thread is disrupted.
NiqueNique · 16/09/2022 10:51

I think one would have to be quite dim to truly believe in the concept of perfect people with perfect lives.

Everyone is human, even the Monarch, and his/her family members, and some are far from perfect.
