Someone’s just thrown something at the Queen’s funeral car!

If you look at 7.35, someone steps forward from the line of people on the left and throws what seems like a liquid (probs coffee from a coffee mug).

Whether one is a monarchist or not, the lack of basic human decency and respect from some people is really quite sad.

To throw stuff at those glossy vehicles is very bad form.
It probably started with Diana's Funeral, and I expect the drivers were wincing with each thud and flop of thrown flowers.
It seems a crazy thing to do, and very disrespectful.

The undertakers and vicars will work as usual- they wouldn't want to add trauma to families.

I'm not sure why crematoria have closed- possibly an unintended consequence- some are private, are some run by local authorities?

nhs appointments will be cancelled but people will still be looked after in wards
i am not sure surgery will go ahead?

Depends. Our hospital is running all planned surgery and running all planned clinics and appts.

I heard a bang, surely wasn’t flowers?

I also thought I heard a bang as it neared the palace.

I actually looked at the tyres thinking one had blown.

I was watching on bbc

Regarding the Funeral..It is reported that Andrew is allowed to wear his 'Finery' at the Funeral, but Harry is not?
I know Harry is a loose cannon with his family making money out of the Monarchy, but to let Andrew wear his uniform, and not Harry, seems a bit petty.
Both should be in civilian suits or both in uniform.

Tangential but on the television it looks like the hearse drove right into Buckingham Palace.

Granted I am not familiar with the layout but is that lower leveal all garage? Or did they drive right into the residence? Rather than carry her coffin from the front plaza area. I was very surprised to see that!

I thought that! Some cars went around and some looked like they drove straight through.

BreatheAndFocus · 13/09/2022 20:43

There’s no law that says funerals have to be cancelled. That’s nothing to do with The Queen at all. The fact that some businesses have chosen to do so, or have been forced to do so due to staffing issues, is hardly Her Majesty’s fault. My local council says it’s honouring pre-booked appointments for such services.

I don't know the details but if Andrew has disgraced the uniform, Harry hasn't. What's the official reason, does anyone know?

didn't see the drive up. I don't even like people throwing flowers, must be a nightmare for security.

Why? Andrew as the queen's son is performing a different duty. He also did a full 22 and saw active service without putting others in danger and having troops assigned to protecting him.

My NHS appointment isn’t cancelled.

There’s an inner courtyard. You see it quite often on royal footage.

Mine is (GP surgery appointment)

People cheering the cortège really grates on me. You don’t normally applaud a coffin, do you? It just doesn’t feel appropriate. Dignified silence is much more fitting.

Probably respecting the late Queen's wishes. A lot of decisions by 'the palace' during the last few years of her reign were petty and favoured Andrew. Hopefully King Charles can undo some of that damage once this circus is over, a monarch for the times rather than for times gone by.

JustTheOneSwan · 13/09/2022 20:55

It's because Andrew is still an honorary rank (Admiral) and Harry gave his up.

ajandjjmum · 13/09/2022 20:55

I think Andrew is allowed to wear uniform for the vigil, not the funeral. I would imagine both Andrew and Harry will not be in uniform for the funeral.

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 13/09/2022 20:56

BigFatLiar · 13/09/2022 20:25

That's always a problem if you have bank holidays

I am Jewish we are not the 'state religion' so surely we could still have a funeral? Hmm It's not really a problem anyway, just as if someone were to die close to Shabbat or another festival.

ChessieFL · 13/09/2022 20:56

I read (The Times) that Andrew is only being allowed to wear his uniform when the Queen’s children stand vigil round the coffin in Westminster, not for the funeral itself. As Harry won’t be standing vigil, it doesn’t apply to him. If what I’ve read is correct neither of them will be wearing uniform for the funeral itself. No idea how accurate that is though.

ajandjjmum · 13/09/2022 20:58

Andrew is Vice Admiral - his promotion to Admiral was cancelled by the Queen.

Apparently, he was not allowed to salute the coffin in Edinburgh as his siblings were, and was not allowed to wear uniform in the parade to St. Giles.

I think he's being made to pay for his idiocy in many small ways that will hurt him, whilst still being acknowledged as the son of a much loved Queen.

Andrew will be in uniform, Harry won’t. It’s been announced.

Oh , sorry, muddling up vigil and funeral.

SandyGussetButton · 13/09/2022 21:01

Not all crematoria are closed. DH is working on Monday and families have been given the choice whether to go ahead or postpone... (Local authority crematorium)

HarrietSchulenberg · 13/09/2022 21:03

I am firmly a republican but throwing something at a hearse is disgraceful.

CallMeLinda · 13/09/2022 21:03

Our NHS hospital is pretty much open as usual. My sister works there. They already had staff rostered and clinics booked, so didn't see the need to cancel anything when they had such a huge backlog anyway. they have put a message on social media saying if anyone needs to rearrange their appt due to the unexpected bank holiday (eg childcare or whatever) they can contact the dept to do so.
