If you look at 7.35, someone steps forward from the line of people on the left and throws what seems like a liquid (probs coffee from a coffee mug).

Whether one is a monarchist or not, the lack of basic human decency and respect from some people is really quite sad.

I would imagine she doesn't care that someone threw a coffee at her because she's dead.

Well, quite clearly none of this is about her, or about royalty or monarchy or anything.
It's about her family. Who are grieving- and are being forced to do so pretty publicly. How would you feel if your family member died, you were all over TV 24/7, not allowed to privately mourn and everywhere you went people were shoving phones in your face, shaking your hand and congratulating you on taking their place? And on top of that, some idiot decides to disrupt the procession by chucking coffee at their car- potentially causing a massive security incident?

Well this thread has derailed.....

I too thought I saw/heard something that didn't look like flowers, it kinda reminded me of when you throw a flower bomb. My husband said it was prob rice. Def wasn't flowers.

People cheering the cortège really grates on me. You don’t normally applaud a coffin, do you? It just doesn’t feel appropriate. Dignified silence is much more fitting.

Absolutely

EmmaH2022 · 13/09/2022 23:56

No reports of what happened, that I can see.

freckles20 · 14/09/2022 01:02

There are cases of funerals being cancelled against families wishes due to crematoriums not operating.

Medical appts being cancelled, operations being cancelled and prenatal scans being cancelled- many of which are time critical and cannot be rescheduled as the system is already bursting and obviously schedulers didn't plan for the BH.

There is absolutely no sensible reason not to have held the funeral on a Sunday other than to give 'the people' a Bank Holiday.

I can assure you that 8-9 out of 10 people under 60 would say the most significant thing about all of this is being given a bank holiday.

The inappropriate cheering and celebrating is because people are enjoying themselves- it's a day out, something to do.

ThisUserNameIsAvailableOk · 14/09/2022 01:08

"As if you’d feel that way if someone was throwing things at your mum’s coffin. Or if someone was taking the opportunity to scream ‘birch’ in your face because you weren’t interested in shagging them."

What on earth are you talking about? Confused

"I can assure you that 8-9 out of 10 people under 60 would say the most significant thing about all of this is being given a bank holiday."

Eh? How can you "assure" anyone of that? Nonsense

That’s not the queens fault is it. She didn’t ask for this.
To throw anything at her car is disgusting.

I agree.

it’s awful that funerals are being cancelled I am genuinely shocked at that.

I've a chat to people or working or school age outside of your own friends and family and pop back to let us know what you find.

startfresh · 14/09/2022 06:44

Thanks @FitAt50 I think my exhaustion caught up with me. I was mixed with Charles' age and couldn't quite put my finger on it.

Don't I feel stupid today.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 14/09/2022 06:49

i dont think the cheering is people enjoying themselves necessarily, i think they dont know how to show respect amd think this is how they show their feelings to the queen

Funerals being cancelled - is that not down to undertakers (private business) and councils? Public services such as NHS will be running and undertakers will be doing retrievals so maybe they should also make exceptions as well for those funerals that have time constraints

I think people should have been offered a choice to go ahead or reschedule on all important appointments.

Nobody has to close. That's clearly outlined regarding this specific day.

I would probably have rescheduled a funeral if given the choice. But choice is what is lacking.

The same has happened in Australia and there is an outcry about it.

Picoloangel · 14/09/2022 12:30

I’ve seen no reports of anything being thrown and didn’t see it. I saw what looked like flowers at odd isolated points but nothing that looked like a drink. Possibly depended on the angle and which TV station was covering.

ChessieFL · 14/09/2022 12:43

Yes the advice is that no business has to close, but the problem is that schools and nurseries are closing, so lots of people now have to look after their children that day. If a crematorium/NHS service/whatever is staffed by a lot of parents, they may not be able to run the service if those parents now cannot work. Perhaps places that are still running have more staff without young children.

antelopevalley · 14/09/2022 13:43

I agree that schools closing sparks a wave of inevitable closures of businesses.

The country has gone mad. It really brings out the worst in some people. Throwing things, clapping, tracking the funeral like it's a DHL delivery... It's all utterly bonkers.

From the outside it seems very OTT, and there are days of it still.

I'd be upset if a relative's funeral was moved or a cancer appointment was cancelled.

Throwing something at the hearse is completely idiotic, of course.

turningpurpleygreen · 14/09/2022 16:51

Roll on 20 sept when we can see news from
Outside the UK

turningpurpleygreen · 14/09/2022 16:55

@CallMeLinda

They feel the same as anyone else whose 94 granny dies

Sad but grateful she had a good life and life goes on.

Back to work we go. Just some deadmin to crack on with

OvaryActions · 14/09/2022 16:58

I've not seen any reports of anything being thrown at the hearse 🤔 and no one else talking about it...google just brings up this thread. I don't know what you guys were watching so can't see it for myself but perhaps it wasn't what it seemed. Hopefully not..I'm all for protesting but that would be awful.

I agree with a PP that the coronation would be a better time to protest and would gather more support. Protesting the queens funeral etc is likely to turn people against you as many people feel affection for the queen even if they normally dislike the idea of monarchy:

QuebecBagnet · 14/09/2022 18:15

I also noticed harry and Andrew did not salute the cenotaph today when the others did Again I guess that’s because they aren’t allowed due to not having military positions

You can't salute if your not wearing uniform.
