I hope Camilla has changed into some flats!

It must be a nightmare sorting out the traffic in London

Is that a Scottish crown from wherever she keeps them there? Or brought up from Crown Jewels in London?

The Crown of Scotland is lovely. Really elegant.

JustLyra · 13/09/2022 19:53

The hearse has no number plate - it must be a specially made one

JaneJeffer · 13/09/2022 19:58

So dark in London!

NiqueNique · 13/09/2022 19:59

I believe it’s the State hearse.

So dark in London!

I was just thinking that too.

MaggieFS · 13/09/2022 20:00

I've just left central London. It's a grim evening. Hopefully the sun will be out for tomorrow haven't checked the forecast

Scotland definitely came up trumps with the weather!

PAFMO · 13/09/2022 20:24

Thanks all again for thoughtful and respectful insights. Just reading Anne's statement, gosh how lovely.

I think she planned it. And I think it was pretty clever of her to do that actually

I think so too. Her health declines at the age of 96, she goes to the place she loves the most and stays there, I’m sure she knew the end was near and I like to think she was at peace with that. In those last photos she looked genuinely happy even though it was only 2 days before the end of her life.

CPL593H · 13/09/2022 21:21

I don't know if anyone will know but I've been wondering. I don't think the Imperial State Crown/orb/sceptre will be on her coffin during her procession tomorrow, but they will be at Westminster Hall (no issue) and during the actual funeral procession on Monday.

I'm so hoping it will be dry, but what if the weather is really bad? Just wonder if there is a Plan B if there are storms/gales. I've just checked and it looks OK. Fingers crossed.

UrsulaPandress · 13/09/2022 21:50

We’re British. Bad weather won’t stop anything.

😂I'm mainly worried about the Crown jewels getting battered in this scenario, but have worked out they can replace the velvet cap of estate and let's face it, the rest of it isn't going to rust! I'm sure the Black Prince's ruby has seen much, much worse than some London rain.

LIZS · 13/09/2022 22:03

If the weather does its worst then I expect they can set up a glass enclosure for the coffin and its adornments. It is supposed to be dry from midday though,

CPL593H · 13/09/2022 22:12

@LIZS good point.

I knew the ruby had an interesting history but not the detail; I remember the queen said it was her favourite bit of the Crown jewels and liked the little hole drilled in it to hold a jaunty feather. Apparently-

"In the Battle of Agincourt on 25 October 1415, the French Duke of Alençon struck Henry on the head with a battleaxe, and Henry nearly lost both the helmet and his life. The battle was won by Henry's forces and the Black Prince's Ruby was saved. Richard III is supposed to have worn the gemstone in his helmet at the Battle of Bosworth, where he died."

I'm not sure how Charles II got it back after Cromwell had sold off and melted down almost everything, but I'm glad he did.

But yeah, no problem with a bit of rain!

JaneJeffer · 14/09/2022 13:43

I wonder why they chose 2:22 to leave the palace?

It does seem very specific!

TheSpottedZebra · 14/09/2022 13:59

Because it takes 38 mins to walk the route and they've planned a 3pm arrival ?

JaneJeffer · 14/09/2022 14:01

Ah ok @TheSpottedZebra I'm still amazed they can time it so exactly though!

He’s definitely got a beautiful way with words. So far I’m not crying, but I think it won’t be long.
