I hope Camilla has changed into some flats!

We did her proud. St Giles looks lovely

Mooserp · 12/09/2022 15:46

Do you think when she went up to Balmoral that it was with the intention of never coming back?

Thethreecs · 12/09/2022 15:46

Gosh that was really lovely, very personal and just very touching. The people of Scotland really made it special. Would this have happened if she died in England? Scotland you should be very proud.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 12/09/2022 15:47

Those boys were marvellous. That is a relatives old battalion and he says those steps are the scariest part so well done boys.

Scotland have done so well over the last few days. That video of the heckler is already up on Twitter I had missed it on the school run

camilla is wearing a large hat

i am concerned about Lady Sarah Chatto,
she was close to the queen but as her neice has not put in an appearance, i spose that is better for her.

She and her brother will be at the funeral.

yhere are lots who haven’t been around yet. People like Princess Alexandra, who was very close to her cousin.

They couldn’t all traipse up to Scotland - it would make everything there too big and busy.

Absolutely

ApolloandDaphne · 12/09/2022 15:31

My DM and I were just saying that earlier. We have given her a good Scottish send off.

Yes Scotland has done her proud

Does everyone else hold their breath as the pall bearers manoeuvre the coffin?

Yes!!!
The Royal Coffins are bound to be made of Oak from a Royal Estate and lead - Lined, so will weigh a significant amount.
The Pallbearers must have surely been Practicing to get it so spot on.
Well done them.

I held my breath when they swivelled round at the top of the steps on the way in. The guy at the back was really close to the top of the steps and if he'd misjudged it slightly he'd have fallen backwards down them!

And I think St Giles looks lovely.

MarshaBradyo · 12/09/2022 15:48

I appreciate having both this is personal and lovely, the funeral will be something else again and worth it

But well done Scotland very beautiful

TrueNorthernBird · 12/09/2022 15:49

She would have been at Balmoral for the summer as usual but I expect she was going to stay there until she passed, rather than come back to London / Windsor before heading to Sandringham at Christmas.

TrueNorthernBird · 12/09/2022 15:49

And Scotland, a country I hold dear, you have done her so proud.

PestoPasghetti · 12/09/2022 15:34

There was a monarch who was dropped. Can't remember who now, Edward Vll maybe?

Dunno about his coffin but I do know that the court had a hell of a time getting him buried. He stayed in his bed for eight days and Queen Alexandra invited a stream of visitors to see him. She refused to let the undertakers in and it was days before he was placed in a coffin.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 12/09/2022 15:50

nice hymn

bellac11 · 12/09/2022 15:50

I dont think she planned it, she was always at Balmoral in summer for a couple of months. Its very good luck obviously. It could have happened any time, I actually thought the jubilee celebrations might have been too much for her and she would have passed away then but she carried on

Blossomtoes · 12/09/2022 15:50

moneybeingwasted · 12/09/2022 15:38

I am English but I am so glad she died in Scotland. Balmoral was one of her favourite places and the Scots have really given the Queen a beautiful send off from their beautiful country 💕

I agree. Scotland should be very proud.

Hbh17 · 12/09/2022 15:51

James Naughtie was awful - he never shut up & barely drew breath. I think he forgets he's not on the radio, so "dead air" won't be an issue.
The female commentator, once inside the church, is so much better.

All the mobile phones along the Royal Mile were very distressing & disrespectful. Why would you want to watch thru a tiny screen, rather than with your own eyes?!

But a beautiful, restrained, almost spare service - perfect.

Camilla always wears hats big enough to contact alien galaxies.

Perime · 12/09/2022 15:51

This is beautiful. Perhaps it was easier to make Operation Unicorn more what she wished for her funeral as there was less formal procedure to be adhered to. I heard Phillip was adamant on what happened at his funeral.

StormzyinaTCup · 12/09/2022 15:51

The people of Scotland should be feeling rightly proud, they really have done a super job and given her a very fitting send off. Well done lads and lassies 💕

CPL593H · 12/09/2022 15:52

What Scotland has done has been beautiful, just amazing.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 12/09/2022 15:52

i assumed there were so many people in teh crowd that people were holding their phones up high so they could actually video what they couldnt see with their eyes

oakleaffy · 12/09/2022 15:53

Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 really looks beautiful-
The Tartans and Uniforms look stunning.
Well done Scotland- The public watching looked very respectful, too.
The Police horses were likely the only ones wondering why they were having to walk so very slowly.

ApolloandDaphne · 12/09/2022 15:53

It is the epitome of any CofS service in any church in Scotland. It reminds me so much of my dear departed granny who took me to the Kirk with her when I was young.

Article about that very thing in the Times today. Apparently the coffinwas made 30 years ago and stored. This is a family that plans things years in advance.

So presumably they've also already made King Charles' coffin, and the Queen Consort's?
