With another podcast set for release this week, The Sunday Times has a piece addressing Harry and Meghan's apparent strategy:

Courtiers are bemused by the Sussexes’ determination to rage against the past. As Davis observed of Meghan in her article: “She has taken a hardship and turned it into content.” A source who knows the Sussexes questions why Meghan “is constantly looking back at how awful it was to briefly be a royal. What does success look like, is it a number in the bank? Is it that they’ve killed off the monarchy?” Another Palace source says: “Ultimately they are bashing the institution that has put them in the position they’re in, the longevity of that strategy is not sustainable.”

I'm curious about their strategy, too. They seem to think that criticizing the royal makes them look better - it really doesn't. Instead, it just makes them look petty and increasingly irrelevant.

What hedda is saying is that they have to go through an interview to be chosen to become a delegate, so I might have to eat crow! What she attached shows that for Japan. But when I try to search, it takes me to all sorts of different years where it says, a candidate is a person waiting for someone to sponsor them and a delegate is someone who has got the money.

So in absence of proof, I'm going to have to concede hedda's point that there is a selection process for these 2,000 people. However I don't believe that their partners, like Credit suisse, Astrazeneca, BMW, who basically fund the organisation, have their chosen attendees turned down. But maybe they are. 🤷

Sorry, Hedda.

@skullbabe - wondered what you think of Michele Obama’s take on the H&M situation?

I think it was an excellent take - it’s a play on her famous “when they go low we go high”.

I’m also glad she said the racism wasn’t a surprise

It is completely on brand for Michelle Obama and shows her skill in the political sphere to bring it all back to family and wish them all well.

Readinginthesun · 06/09/2022 22:18

One thing about the trip has puzzled me . Apparently their convoy of personnel in cars includes a doctor plus medical equipment.
Is this normal with royals ( or ex royals) ?

Yes agree she is so impressive - compassionate and emotionally generous.

Suggesting that H&M ensure that the spotlight is directed on to the cause / public service and away from them was very wise.

@Readinginthesun

i wonder will they be paying for everything in Germany ? (Security etc)

Apparently they but I was really just wondering if it was usual to have a doctor travelling with you at all times ? HM I can understand.

Readinginthesun · 06/09/2022 22:43

Apparently they are *

I had a memory that on an official trip to Egypt (Google says 1992) before the split with Charles, Diana sent her own doctor to see Arthur Edwards (press photographer) after asking where he was and being told he was ill. Official trip though and she was married to the heir to the throne. No idea how usual it is now/generally although can imagine the Queen has pretty close attention, not least because of her age.

Are their DCs with them?

Do we think they will go to Balmoral?

Why in earth do they need a doctor for a few days. And equipment. Is one of them ? Sounds like his father, travelling with a menagerie.

Looking at the photos of QE meeting the new PM yesterday and she looks so frail. Likely this is one of Harry's last opportunities to be with the grandmother he's so close to and yet apparently refused the invite to Balmoral to see her. It's all very sad.

Roussette · 07/09/2022 06:28

Could you provide a source that isn't the DM that categorically states the Queen asked to see him and he refused?

LondonWolf · 07/09/2022 06:59

No, that's why I said "apparently" not "it's been confirmed". Can you provide one that says this didn't happen? We are all just surmising here. Even you.

Snog · 07/09/2022 07:10

I think we need to judge people by their actions and not by their words. Harry says that he loves and supports the Queen but his actions say otherwise. He undermines the RF continually and doesn't make the effort to visit his frail 96 year old grandmother. He also didn't visit Prince Phillip whilst he was in his final weeks.
Meghan similarly doesn't visit her old and unwell father.
To me this doesn't espouse the virtues of forgiveness, kindness or compassion that they profess to champion.

No, of course not. That would mean anyone could make anything up and say 'apparently' and anyone questioning it, has to prove it isn't true!!

I prefer facts not hearsay.

Maybe they heard about a&e waiting times

Same. But as we know in this "post truth" world the two are often irredeemably blurred and unless you have a personal hot line to H&M almost all of your thoughts/assertions on all these threads are opinions or "hearsay" as well as everyone else's. This one is easy though. We will see if Harry visits his very frail and elderly grandmother or not wont we? I genuinely hope he does.

You said that apparently the Queen had invited him to Balmoral and he had refused her invite. So you've already set the scene for that scenario with your post. So if he doesn't go (maybe on the Queen's doctor's advice, who knows) you are assuming he has turned down her invite. Maybe she didn't invite him, who knows.
If he did go, he would be criticised on this thread for upsetting her when she's so frail. Because whatever he does is wrong.

So MANY maybes there and even future predictions of wrong doing on the part of participants on this thread. Not very factual Grin

Roussette · 07/09/2022 07:52

My 'maybe' = your 'apparently' 😂

Readinginthesun · 07/09/2022 08:08

I hope H does visit HM who is looking very frail and I doubt if she will return to London .
Obviously I don’t know but I imagine he must have some regrets about not visiting PP before he died .
