Have you read "Dining with The Duchess" or "Dieting with The Duchess"?

Sarah's books. An ex member of the RF, cashing in on her title, that's just two of her 70 books written with her title,. They were nonsense, haven't seen you commenting on them.

Meghan wrote one you didn't like, you are not the audience, children are and saying it was not appealing to them...you don't know

I'm sure if Fergie comes out with a podcast series where she talks endlessly about herself and is equally fawned over by her overprivileged friends, you can bet there will be a long running thread on it on MN. I would be happy to contribute, I think she's ridiculous.

Thankfully, so far she has spared us that horror.

Roussette · 01/09/2022 10:19

That's what parents do

How does that equate to 'not living off the taxpayer though?' Charles is funded by the taxpayer, and they benefit from that.

AuroraCake · 01/09/2022 10:53

Roussette · 01/09/2022 10:42

What an earth should she do about that? Divorce him and hide?? You can hardly blame her for people knowing who Meghan is

She could use either of the surnames available to her I guess.

Ohnonevermind · 01/09/2022 10:53

@Farmageddon

good point !

Fergie had a load of shit thrown at her even when she was a newlywed. The comparisons to Diana were mean and unending.

Yes she managed to make a hell of a mess of her marriage etc but the ‘Duchess of Pork’ etc was long before that.

I remember that, and the toe sucking charade and many others. I mean, she didn't do herself any favours with her antics, but I think her personality was just a bad fit, plus she was married to a total turd, so that didn't help.

But she really was, and still is, ridiculed by the media.

StartupRepair · 01/09/2022 10:59

The point is it is utterly ludicrous on every possible level for Meghan to be compared with Mandela. Insane. If it happened it would be a comparison to be gracefully avoided and forgotten. Instead Meghan stored it up and brought it out years later in a high profile interview. Presumably thinking it made her look good as an anecdote. It actually makes her look outrageous and deluded that she repeated it.

No she hasn't. It's just that when she did it, there wasn't the SM there is now.
Oprah interviews and more than one book about her time in the RF and how awful it was

It's very murky, yes he's funded by the taxpayer but also has wealth himself

Novella4 · 01/09/2022 11:06

All the royals have , they stole .

That's how monarchy works .

Roussette · 01/09/2022 11:07

AuroraCake · 01/09/2022 10:53

Do you think if she called herself Meghan .Mountbatten Windsor or whatever, anything would change?
You know it wouldn't!
She'd still be known in the US as Princess Meghan or Duchess Meghan.
No one had to ask who she was with a podcast just called Meghan.
Personally I don't think she needs to, or should use the Duchess title. She's famous enough without it and it just enrages those that don't like her

Ohnonevermind · 01/09/2022 11:08

@Roussette

so if Charles is so ‘murky’, does taking ‘murky’ money not make you an accomplice ?

ThickCutSteakChips · 01/09/2022 11:08

I think Meghan Markle is starting to prove that saying

'if one person is an arsehole then they are probably an arsehole. But if everyone is an arsehole then it's probably you that's the arsehole'.

I'm sorry, I don't know what you are referring to

Ohnonevermind · 01/09/2022 11:14

@Roussette

im referring to your post above ?
the one where you referred to part of Charles wealth as murky ?

AlexandriasWindmill · 01/09/2022 11:14

Who said what at the premiere isn't really relevant. It's the fact it's being discussed at all that's the problem. Fwiw having been at premieres I can easily believe she confused cast and crew. Receiving lines are hectic and noisy. I also easily believe that someone did say to her that they were 'dancing in the streets in SA'.
Where it becomes awkward is that the story was published. Because as soon as it was in the public domain, it was a story that could splinter in too many directions (back to Sunshine messing up their job again). The number of SA cast/crew at the event was always going to be small and now his polite, funny, passing comment is plastered all over the media. Mandela's grandson has commented on it. The only SA cast member has commented on it. People in SA are saying they didn't dance in the street. A throwaway comment has been blown out of all proportion. No-one really thought people were dancing in the street. No-one really thought MM was Mandela. Did MM mention it to show she was grappling with how 'important' her new role was on a world stage? If yy, then her PR team should have helped her find a better way to illustrate that bewilderment and weight of expectation.

Ahhh Harry taking money? I'm a bit slow today.
I am referring to the royal family finances in general, lacking in transparency.
But if you are so inclined, you could criticise him for that, if that's your thing

Roussette · 01/09/2022 11:16

See above. The royal family's financial opacity

I hope I've clarified that for you

SueSaid · 01/09/2022 11:16

Roussette · 01/09/2022 10:19

That's what parents do

Of course we do. The point you're conveniently missing is Harry said he was cut off financially! Erm, well apart from the few million start up fund of course 🤥

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/09/2022 11:19

SilverLiningPlaybook · 01/09/2022 08:51

She should have been made to.

Good luck with that, Silver. I very much agree that things could have been taken more steadily and said from the start that it was all a bit rushed, but am not sure trying to "make" Meghan do anything would have ended well

I also haven't the least doubt that the everyone's-a-racist crowd would have insisted she was being "kept out of sight because of her race"

smilesy · 01/09/2022 11:24

Oprah interviews and more than one book about her time in the RF and how awful it was

But this is exactly what Harry and Meghan are doing. Why is it only wrong if it’s SF doing it? Or have I misunderstood

Samcro · 01/09/2022 11:24

M is the duchess of sussex, that is her title. if she dropped it, she would just be referred to as that or princess M. imagine that......mn would implode.

I specifically said podcasts. Do please point me to Fergie's series of self promotion podcasts....I would love to indulge in the barmyness.

Well exactly, and nobody would have even known about it if she hadn't specifically brought it up as an example of her greatness.

That's what is funny about the apologists on this thread, we are mostly discussing her own words, and the reason she is back in the press is because of her self promotion podcast. She orchestrated all this. Which is fine, but we are allowed to critique it or have opinions on it.

Roussette · 01/09/2022 11:37

Farmageddon · 01/09/2022 11:29

Podcasts didn't even EXIST when SF did all her criticism. (,Books, OW interviews etc) So of course I can't point you in that direction as you well know.

Besides which it was 25 years ago and she's now propped up financially by the RF so wouldn't shoot the golden goose

mateysmum · 01/09/2022 11:42

The Cut article makes it clearer than ever that at the heart of why Meghan couldn't get on with royal life was that she couldn't have control of every aspect of her "brand". She couldn't control her own media and photo release, she couldn't control the family dynamic - she couldn't make it all about Me Me Me.
Did she really not understand the difference between royalty and celebrity? Those rules are there for a reason, like it or not. If she didn't or wouldn't understand then Harry must take some of the blame. Meghan should have been under no illusions about what she was taking on. But then again she thought she could just mould the 1200 year old fuddy, duddy monarchy in her own image. She found that out the hard way.
