Meghan's long-awaited podcast has launched. Sorry if there's a thread about this already. Has anyone listened to it yet? Thoughts?

I hope @LondonWolf made her cauliflower cheese, I cheat, I buy Asda's posh version when I want it, I think when things come out into the public we are allowed to comment, Meghan knows full well that some of the things she says will be spoken about and dissected and that's why she mention about the housing unit, she also said something about Stepford wives, I've seen some say she was having a dig about Kate, but again who knows, she says these things to get people talking, that's what she wants, in my opinion, if I make no sense I apologise, it's been a hard weekend at work.

I thought the Spotify and Netflix deals were signed by both H and M yet it is only M delivering content ( apart from H’s 10 second cameo ).

notanotheroneagain · 28/08/2022 22:15

nope, go look at the hashtag, those are twitter users- some long standing with lots of followers.

In the meanwhile, the hashtags that were against her, were proven as liars and mainly coming from the UK. One has even been removed.

on other posters....................
Either you are saying H&M are broke and can't afford their lifestyle and the house they live in, but can still pay lots of money to bots and pr ?

Are you going to accuse this account of being a bot or not being from South Africa?

Exactly the same was true of the top tweets when the hashtag started, though.

You know very well I was referring to the top tweets of the hashtag, and a few people, like this one fell for it and is being quoted everywhere. Even on his tweet, black twitter is setting him straight.

Someone asked her name in the USA. On the youngest child's birth cert (a USA one) she went for her maiden name before both her marriages as her current name - "Rachel Meghan Markle". On her son's (after it was revised)(which was a birth in the UK ) she is "Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex" (and under Maiden surname had "Markle" although I believe for people married before like my great granny whose first husband died sometimes in the UK they put both your previous surnames (as in " late Smith formerly Jones" - as in Jones maiden name, Smith first husband's name so probably she could have put under maiden name for the UK one "late Engleson, formerly Markle" on the son's birth cert)

MarshaMelrose · 29/08/2022 00:45

The deals they have aren’t bringing them any real success or the adulation they crave. In five years no one will give a toss about them.

I hope this isn't the case. I think they've made missteps over their charities - but that's from a British perspective of how we deal with charity and not an American. But in a way, even though they're in their forties, they are babies at this with very little experience and guidance and I think mistakes are to be expected. We all make them when we're new at things. As they get more experience I hope they go on to great things because I don't think there can ever be enough charity in the world.

In the US in all states, all birth certificates have the mother's maiden name. It was not something she chose to do.

From today's Telegraph. If there were genuine security concerns, why the constant drip of information about their movements? This security issue seems very odd to me. High-profile people travel the world constantly without any drama. And if only working royals are entitled to Met security, the case seems pretty clear cut?

My understanding is that decisions about security are made on a case by case basis . Andrew is not a working royal but has been deemed at risk ( hardly surprising) so has security .
If H and M were undertaking an official role such as the PJ they would automatically come under the Met security as they were with PC etc.
The police will supply security to anyone they think needs it ( PMs etc) .

It makes no sense whatsoever.

If they did go to see the Queen then they would automatically be protected by her security. It's just an excuse (perhaps they were simply not invited) and another opportunity to try and have a dig about the court case.

As you say, if they were genuinely that concerned then not publicising their movements in advance would be the first step. Harry recently travelled to Zimbabwe and nobody knew about it until afterwards, proving its entirely possible for them to travel around without anybody knowing.

SilverLiningPlaybook · 29/08/2022 09:08

I don’t think anyone for one minute thought they would go to Balmoral. They didn’t go even before they left the UK. In fact I don’t think Harry ever went before he met Meghan as an adult.
The security issue is just an excuse. They travel all over the place without worrying too much. What will happened when they visit the UK later in the year? They aren’t on RF business then, so will not have official security.

Harry regularly went to Balmoral as an adult . He was seen in the area .

SilverLiningPlaybook · 29/08/2022 09:35

My mistake then, I didn't think he did.

Xenia · 29/08/2022 10:47

onlylarkin - thanks re. US birth certs. You are quite right. I looked for "maiden name" but it doesn't use that word and I can see now I think it says "birth name"

BlueRidge · 29/08/2022 10:55

I can't imagine that Balmoral would be Meghan's "thing." (That's not a criticism - it wouldn't be mine either). Isn't the order of the day hunting, shooting and heavy meals? And Harry stopped doing all that not long after they got together/engaged/whatever?

shedwithivy · 29/08/2022 11:28

I would really like to see MM do something under her own steam, without a single reference to her terrible time as a working royal and without shoe-horning Harry in with a tea tray or some juggling balls at every turn. She is an accomplished woman who had 30+ years life experience before she met him, but only seems to have a few well worn anecdotes and an axe to grind about a job she quit 3 years ago. Its a shame really.

SilverLiningPlaybook · 29/08/2022 11:31

It would also be nice to see them do some genuine charity work. Not visits that last no time wirh lots of photographers present, but proper grassroots work. Preferably without telling the world how charitable they are. Or taking private jets there.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/08/2022 11:34

Admirable as it is, there's just one problem with lower key, grassroots charity work SilverLiningPlaybook ...

It doesn't pay the bills

themessygarden · 29/08/2022 11:43

Didn't they do a least one secret visit to a charity during Invictus in Netherlands?, it only leaked a few months later when the organisation was allowed to publish photos from it.

themessygarden · 29/08/2022 11:44

That wasn't even a leak, it was an actually an approved announcement. There was no leak at the time and none in the weeks / months afterwards. So they can totally lock things down when they need or want to.

shedwithivy · 29/08/2022 12:06

Also, I think the kind of ambition that Serena has shown to reach the top of her game, is probably very different to the negative connotations of ambition that MM claims to have encountered since meeting her husband.

It would be fascinating to see an exploration of this- the old fashioned ambition to marry well and the perception that status gained this way is undeserved. (The Becky Sharpe archetype as it were). To be honest, I think this perception is at the root of much of the negative press she gets. I'd love to see her clap back at this.

Yy I was confused by that too. Maybe they're going to alternate hosting or Harry will launch an alternate/companion podcast. The announcement on their Archewell website said both H&M would produce content for Spotify.
