As the other thread has filled up I wondered if anyone would like to discuss the book here. I’m listening to it on Audible now.

What's the point of hedge managers and other investors, do you think.

You tell us - this sentence is gobbledegook!

notanotheroneagain · 19/08/2022 08:40

Mistake from me. It was supposed to be K&W for Kate and William.

So you don't like influencers, does not mean they are doing anything wrong. MM had her own The Tig with over 2M followers before, and there is nothing wrong with that. She did a lot of cooking. In between she was an actress and also did charity work. That is how the world works now. No longer are things reserved for handpicked white men to things. You don't have a problem with Jamie Oliver or Gordon Ramsey do you?

Ohnonevermind · 19/08/2022 08:48

i’m not a fan of influencers. As they seem so shallow, tacky and have to sell themselves for a buck. Nothing seems off limits to keep subscribers interested.

I despair when talent and intelligence are less in demand than flashing your butt and photoshopping your pictures to remove your cellulite

I’m getting old !

Malahaha · 19/08/2022 08:53

I have no interest in JO or GR, never watched their programs, never would. Why do you think I have "no problem" with them??? There are few famous people that interest me, and the people who do interest me, you won't have heard of. But M&H -- well, that's a different level! This is history live.

As for "handpicked white men" - why did you bring them up?

I don't care how the world works. I live by my own principles and ethics, follow my own interests, regardless of trends and influencers.

Ohnonevermind · 19/08/2022 09:01

@Ohnonevermind

I never read the Tig but it seemed fine (not kardasian like at all) and she seemed to enjoy it ?

it probably wasn’t as lucrative as say goop or Jessica Albas suits but she could scale it up. I just read it generated about $80,000 per year It would need a careful balance and would Harry be happy to be mentioned in it and the kids too ?

I could see Meghan as a kick arse agent though. Kick arse would be a compliment in case anyone thinks I’m insulting. I’m not sure if politics would suit her and they need to earn more than a starting senator/member of congress

Ohnonevermind · 19/08/2022 09:07

@notanotheroneagain

I would consider Oprah, Martha’s Stewart, Jessica alba, gymneth Paltrow to be operating in this space - no white men there.

Never heard of hedge fund managers?
Nor traders ?

Nope?

Maybe you can try Google.

Explains a lot actually.

notanotheroneagain · 19/08/2022 09:43

Oprah and Martha wrote about what they had to go through to get where they are now. As you will notice, their fame came when they were old, years later.
Jessica and Gwyneth had to be actors first, then moved on to online with their cooking before any attention was paid to them.

I do like Jamie and Gordon, but let's face it, Jamie was promoted straight from cooking school as a post teen. Gordon was a footballer. There is in general, a disproportionate amount of white men in this space - endorsed by the media, without first going online and amassing followers.

Anyway, that is a diversion. A conversation for another place and time.

SueSaid · 19/08/2022 09:54

'To be fair I think Covid scuppered a lot of their plans ( speaking engagements) but I would think NF and Spotify are becoming a bit impatient. Obviously I don’t know but there is certainly a lot of speculation by people who know more than me.'

Yes covid was a bit unfortunate for H timing wise wasn't it. I do wonder how much more he can milk out of his poor me 'my family were awful when they wouldn't give it to my demands' story to keep the $$ rolling in. Yes it's worked so far but surely even his US fans will tire of him at some point. Triumph over adversary, positivity, determination would be a better look. It seems odd to have the face of Invictus as someone who seems to wallow.

OliviaBean · 19/08/2022 09:58

Book finished, I am giving it to the charity shop straight away, really sorry I read it, just the whole synopsis of the circus was exhausting, I felt like I was in the middle of a constant argument with no idea what was real.

From reading the book, one thing is for sure MM would never survive American politics if she ran for office, too thin skinned. Both her and Harry fight and refute everything that's written, it really is a terrible way to live.

They keep feeding the media, some of the stuff they do and say while they have every right to, is cringeworthy. I just had my hands on my head going, oh don't do that, you are literally feeding the media beast with bait, this will not end well!

They really bring out the worst characteristics of each other.

There was certainly racism to begin with from the media but after that I'm not so sure. Certain section of society obviously had it too but on the whole I'm not so sure if the racism was in the mainstream against MM. Once the tit for tat with the media started, trying to control the narrative etc, the whole thing was a big old mess and on it goes. One thing is for sure, I'm going to give the whole circus a bit swerve from now on.

Now to read some light hearted novel!

The person who talks of “Hedge managers” (would they be in charging of the gardening, then?) and random ”investors”(investors in what, pray tell? Meghan and Harry aren’t a listed entity, aren’t issuing bonds and aren’t offering returns - the very idea!) tries to be rude to me about a lack of knowledge of the role of private wealth managers and asset planning. You’re the one who can’t get the basic terminology right. 😂

notanotheroneagain · 19/08/2022 10:26

@OliviaBean good on you for not hanging on to this hogwash for future reference. It is a collection of internet hate trolling.

You do have to remember how relentless the media was and still is about H&M. It seems they hung back for a few years, not doing anything about it all, but this was getting ridiculous. We even had MPs writing to complain, so did a legal organisation.

All the while the rf themselves were not saying a thing - even though they had a statement regarding leaving Sophie alone during her scandal. Kate had a helpline set up.

The DM in particular seems to have something against people of colour though.

Ohnonevermind · 19/08/2022 11:05

jamie Oliver was a bit player in someone else’s show when he worked in the river cafe and made a guest appearance then

he was a talented chef, unlike Brooklyn Beckham who has moved into this space. It must be really annoying to work in a kitchen honing your skills and then have someone like Brooklyn Beckham (influencer) using his parents wealth to muscle in

Gordon Ramsay again was a chef. Two of the female chefs who trained under him are no on master chef etc -

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/08/2022 12:03

Yes, and especially when he uses one of their events as an opportunity to draw attention to himself Hmm
Since he's also an ex-serviceman, I honestly believed this was the last place Harry would choose to do such a thing, but sadly I was wrong

ajandjjmum · 19/08/2022 12:10

I wonder if Harry and Meghan may be in a bit of a pickle, regarding content for their documentary. They presumably thought they could pick up images from the Jubilee, but as it stands there is no 'royal content'. Maybe the trip to Africa and the rumoured vow renewal is to try and plug the gap? Although neither are 'royal events', they are out of the ordinary and therefore of interest.

notanotheroneagain · 19/08/2022 12:12

Jamie was on the River Cafe xmas special - owned by a white person (though I believe it was a woman back then),

Gordon was a very talented footballer who unfortunately had injuries as a teen. He did work his S off, doing manual labour. But his break came from his mentors Pier Koffman and Marco Pierre white (both white man).

I have seen Brooklyn show and his food looks good to me. Yes, his parents would have an influence to his fame.

I hold nothing against these people and think they are all great. But lets not pretend that their status is not achieved via their privilege, as if they are much better than a poc who did not have these opportunities.

MaulPerton · 19/08/2022 12:12

The DM in particular seems to have something against people they won't discriminate if there's a story in it

notanotheroneagain · 19/08/2022 12:15

to draw attention to himself Hmm

More like draw attention to Invictus.

No, I wouldn't say it's a collection of internet hate trolling, that wasn't my view on the book..

ThighMistress · 19/08/2022 12:21

Yes, the Jubilee trip was a bust. Even the photo of Lillibet with the Queen failed to come off.

Surely, Roussette et al, you must agree that if you are going to maintain your USP as a prince abroad the last thing you should do is seriously piss off your family such that you can’t generate any further pageantry-type material.

notanotheroneagain · 19/08/2022 12:24

No, I guess you wouldn't would you. After all you did go and buy the book.

It has been proven over and over on the other thread that the book is a collection of internet trolling and rag lies. Bowers other claims are just easily proven as untrue - he even seems to contradict himself at some points.

Grumpypants78 · 19/08/2022 12:28

Antarcticant · 08/08/2022 18:56

there seemed to be a reasonable explanation for H's revenge, namely that the RF did not allow him to be king

I don't understand this point. Harry wouldn't become King unless something happened to William and his children. Harry must have known from the time he was sentient that he was unlikely ever to become King. This has been so for most second/subsequent sons throughout history. As a motive for 'revenge' it couldn't be further from reasonable.

This doesn't make sense, he's always been quite vocal about not wanting to be king or even a member of the RF hasn't he?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/08/2022 12:29

The Jubilee trip was a bust

Whether it was or not, it did seem a little odd to come 6000 miles for an hour's worth of church service - though of course there could have been meet-ups with other family/friends which we don't know about

I'm not going to repeat on here some of the less pleasant rumours as to why they were "kept away from other royal events", but all the same their absence was pretty glaring

Yes, I did go and buy the book, I read many books across a whole range of topics.

To be honest your opinions are lost to me when you can't debate a point without going for a subtle dig at me. I was waiting for someone to go there and here we go.

OliviaBean · 19/08/2022 12:38

Oh and if an entire nearly 500 page book is 100% lies then quite honestly Tom Bower needs to be sectioned ASAP.

The truth is somewhere in between and the point is we can speculate all day, we don't know, that's why the book is such a head wreck.
