Meghan challenged racism, sexism, anti transgender jokes

The Sunday Times is reporting that when Meghan first met Harry's friends, she challenged every single one of their sexist, racist and anti-transgender jokes.

"Soon after Harry and Meghan’s relationship was revealed, Harry invited Meghan to join his weekend shoot at Sandringham. With the Queen’s permission he had invited 16 friends to arrive for dinner on Friday night, shoot on Saturday and leave after lunch on Sunday. Most of the guests were old friends from Eton with their wives or girlfriends. All of them were employed by international banks and auction houses or were estate owners and racehorse trainers. All were bonded by common assumptions, principles and loyalties.

Like other shooting weekends, Harry was looking forward to endless banter, jokes — and a lot of drinking. He had not anticipated Meghan’s reaction. Their jokes involving sexism, feminism and transgender people ricocheted around the living-rooms and dining-rooms. Without hesitation, Meghan challenged every guest whose conversation contravened her values. According to some of Harry’s friends, again and again she reprimanded them about the slightest inappropriate nuance. Nobody was exempt. Harry’s world would not be her world.

Beyond Harry’s hearing, some friends questioned Meghan’s “wokery”. Meghan was a dampener on the party, they concluded. She lacked any sense of humour. Driving home after Sunday lunch, the texts pinged between the cars: “OMG what about HER?” said one; “Harry must be f*ing nuts.”"

As I said on another thread, I’m no fan of Meghan but I’d have stood up & applauded her. Good for her.

Why on earth she stuck around I don't understand. I'd have binned him off for that.

Didn't realise it was a couples weekend, I missed that bit 😕
In that case I wonder why the female partners didn't call them out. Maybe they just tolerate it .
Harry does seem to have shaken off his previous life since he met Meghan but bloody hell he looks so miserable nowadays . Not seen him crack a smile for a few years now

Why is the woman's job to call them out on their shitty behaviour and not the men's?
What makes you think it wasn't the women being just as shitty?

I think she was right to call them out but if the article/book is anti Meghan(which it seems to be) who gave the anecdote? Was the author there and miffed that someone pointed their sexist/racist jokes....?

Why are posters adding racism into the mix?

It doesn’t mention racism in the article.

Wow.

I remember meeting DH’s friends and thinking what lovely people they were, keen to get to know them better and have long since grown to love them.

I mean, good on MM for speaking up. But I’m more than a little Hmm as to why she pursued a relationship with someone she seemingly has so little in common with.

Harry may well not think those sorts of things himself, but he clearly surrounds himself with people who do, and until that point, laughed along with them.

Would it surprise you that an old white man that aligns themselves with The Times would be upset that racists, sexist behaviour was being called out? Harry certainly punched way above his weight with Meghan but away from the wiles of the Eton types the scales may be falling off his eyes

God don't Harry's friends sound ghastly. Old Etonians who all work in banking meeting up for weekend shooting parties in the country? 🙄I thought that sort of thing died out in the 1930s.

All she had to do is pack up and leave if she didn't like the company. Why stay fit the weekend?

But they were all his pals - clearly he was just like them. If she didn't like those attitudes, she surely would have realised that Harry had those same attitudes . Maybe him being a prince outweighed those red flags , but she's a fool if she think that the new, woke prince is the real Harry. Scratch the surface and I think you'll find he's the same " Hooray Henry" that he always was.

'Birds of a feather.....' and all that.

These were the people he surrounded himself with in his formative years. He is likely still the same if you chisel under the facade he has painted for himself. I expect he misses the chummy 'bantz'.

You are right, my fault. It mentions sexism, anti-feminism and anti-transgender.

I can't imagine being invited to a party then 'calling everyone out' constantly. What an insufferable bore she sounds!

Judging by the recent speeches of Harry they are perfect for each other though.

I'm not a Megan fan, but Harry's mates sound like a bunch of arseholes, so good for her.
I blame Harry for Megan's unpopularity to be fair.

What a bore! Women should know their place and say nothing about sexism so as to not break the fun mood.

I’m amazed everyone thinks that what Tom Bower writes is true!

I shall buy it - looking forward to reading all these accurate well researched anecdotes! It’s published tomorrow isn’t it?

Lost me at the transgender.

Are you implying it's ok to make fun of transgender people? Because I'm profoundly gender critical but I certainly don't believe it's ok to make offensive jokes or comments about transgender people.

They sound like horrendous people tbh. Good on her for challenging it all but I'm surprised she'd want to be with someone who had friends like that.

That's the crux of the matter isn't it? Why would you?

I don't like Meghan Markle at all, I find her fake, but I applaud this stance and good on her and shame on Harry's mates - and their partners who tolerate this rubbish for the lifestyle, no doubt.

What we don't know is if Harry continued to mix with these people, because if I were in that situation, and my partner did, then I would leave him. She hasn't left him.

I would hope he has binned these mates, because to sit on Oprah and talk about racism whilst her husband still mixes with these cretins would be disingenuous and smack of social climbing and playing the race card when it suits.

I doubt he still has these friends.
There have been lots of veiled remarks in the media about how Meghan controls Harry. I wonder if this is the root of it?
It reminds me of John Lennon and Yoke Ono. She was accused of being controlling. It is well documented that Lennon made lots of sexist remarks and jokes before he met Ono. She challenged him and he moved away from his old friends.
Sometimes a partner does lead to someone realising how their friends or family behave is unacceptable and leads to them moving away from them and having nothing or far less to do with them.
I personally would have walked away. But a lot of women do seem to accept improving a partner as their job.

They sound like arseholes. This was the least interesting thing in the article though, it is fully of anecdotes about how ruthless and narcissistic she is
