It's out next week, titled 'Revenge'. I've ordered it already!

Why won't H&M relinquish the titles they so loathe?

Why don't you read my posts?

You might not like my answers but at least read them. They have not said 'we loathe the titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Not that I'm aware anyway.

OK so they like the titles?

Don't you find that even slightly weird, given how much they say they despise the institution that assigns the titles?
It just doesn't make any logical sense whatsoever.
They want to be free and independent, but still have their identity tied to the very thing they want to be free of.

Serenster · 20/07/2022 11:23

On the titles point - I have said this before but I think it’s still true. The power to remove them lies with parliament. Not the Queen.

Since titles are regularly handed out to reward MPs for their careers, I think there is absolutely no chance they will ever decide to strip someone of a title just because public opinion has turned against them. (After all, there’s not even a court finding against Andrew. Jeffrey Archer went to prison for perjury and he’s still Lord Archer!).

So I do wish we could put the titles argument to bed, because it is never going to happen!

notanotheroneagain · 20/07/2022 11:24

But I know from past experience that we can point that out til we’re blue in the face and you’ll never change your view, so I won’t waste my time. Let’s just say opinions differ. 😄

And we know you will twist and twist, till your blue in the face. Even when evidence is starring you in the face.😂

They certainly don’t loathe the titles . They are the passport to the money they need. What they loathe is the institution and the family who are the source of their titles. They are happy to use what serves their purposes though. Just as they are happy to make money from Netflix and ignore anything dubious that Netflix might be involved in.

Cant stand Andrew or his grasping wife either.

Roussette · 20/07/2022 11:24

Keeping the status quo. Who knows maybe they've been told not to ditch them because if they did it would open up a Massive Can Of Worms for Andrew keeping his.

What does it matter to you? Did you get annoyed at the 63 books penned by Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, after she divorced and trashed the institution? And she's still using the title after 26 years, but shuts up now because of £££££££

See? I've answered you Grin

Totally agree.

And Jeffrey Archer borrowed £20 off my Dad back in early 70s, and never paid him back Grin

Do you think this is a “gotcha” ??

My post knowledges the very matter covered in the screenshots you’ve just posted - because it’s the only instance in a 40 year career of Bower getting it wrong. As I said, he repeated the allegations made by someone else in the House of Lords in his book, and had to apologise and retract it.

If you don’t even read my post then why on earth do you expect me to engage with you?

Serenster · 20/07/2022 11:32

Clearly he was always a bounder on the make 😄 (that would have been a lot of money in the 70s!)

Samcro · 20/07/2022 11:33

maybe they like Sussex? (joking as they have not been here much ) this got me thinking about titles. how much do any of them do for the title place? cambridge/york not Wessex obviously as it doesn't exist anymore. apart from the Cornwall one, do any of them have any real links to the place of their titles?

notanotheroneagain · 20/07/2022 11:39

They want to be free and independent, but still have their identity tied to the very thing they want to be free of.

All of what you are saying is a repeat of tabloid hacks.
They never said any of this despise nonsense that is repeated by people who have no argument. This is all lies. They never said they despise the family.

Just because you don't like or approve of certain aspects, does not mean you automatically hate the whole thing.
If someone belonging to one race, says or acts racist towards other races, I then say my disapproval. Does it then mean I 'despise' all of that person's race because of that one person?

I am re-linking because you are acting as if you never saw the link which may also confuse someone into thinking it never happened.

It's not like he wrote 40 books in 40yrs now did he ?

(a) I think we can all agree they don't do as they are told, so the point that they are keeping them because "they were told to" doesn't fly
(b) Why can't I ask the question?
(c) And we are back to whataboutery, which seems to be the main/only H&M defence. No one is permitted to criticise them without first starting on the (granted, long list) of other embarrassing royals. I want to discuss H&M! (It's in the thread title - H&M - we are on topic) Why are H&M choosing to keep their ROYAL titles, but no one has a coherent explanation. It seems to always default back to be "stop asking" and whataboutery...

Lots of words but no answer.

Why do YOU think H&M have chosen to retain their royal titles?
In one sentence and no whatboutery...please

Serenster · 20/07/2022 12:02

The family that Prince Harry said caused him generational pain and suffering, the institution that he said trapped him and still traps his father and brother, the family that he said neglected him and the life that he said was a cross between The Truman Show and a zoo?

Where could people have got the idea that he doesn’t like it, I wonder?

Serenster · 20/07/2022 12:10

No, according to Goodreads he’s written 30 books in 40 years. I have no idea what your point is, but if it helps, that’s an error rate of 0.03 😂

You can ask as much as you want. You just don't like the answers you're getting, not just from me

38DegreesAndRising · 20/07/2022 12:35

What specific answers are you referring to, that you say I don't like?

I don't think I've seen any answers at all, which was my point, but happy to be corrected.

TreePoser · 20/07/2022 12:55

Omg does anybody seriously think there was less hate for Andrew?
Column inches can be love or hate or reporting something new
Lack of column inches can be indifference or a person keeping his head down. Not because he is smart enough but because he's been ordered to.

Well apparently it seems to be a complete binary thing according to two posters on here. If you dare to question H&M's integrity or anything else, it automatically means you support all other titled royals regardless of their shortcomings.
Which is complete bollox and lacks all nuance obviously, but this seems to be the only way they can stymie criticism of H&M.
I've only been on here for 24 h (I have Covid and have little energy for anything in the real world right now) and it's startingly clear what the rules of engagement are here. Team H&M or Team Child Molesters and All Other Nasties. No nuance. In fact, #NoDebate. Now where have we heard that before...

You don't read my posts. Go back and look. I've answered time and time again but whatever anyone says, the answer isn't good enough for you and you don't like the answers. You want one particular answer which is...they are awful people and they should give up their titles.
Well...you're not getting it from me, sorry to disappoint

When PA/SF are stripped of theirs, I'll be on Team M&H Give Up Your Titles. And yes that matters

Roussette · 20/07/2022 13:15

P.S. Hope you get over Covid quickly, it can be nasty and hang around

38DegreesAndRising · 20/07/2022 13:24

Thanks Roussette. Now that the heat has passed I feel a bit better able to cope.

I don't actually think they are awful people at all (to be fair, I don't know them). They both seem quite troubled, but again, I don't know them and only going by their interviews.

It just doesn't add up, all that they have said about the institution, wanting to be independent of it, etc, whilst still retaining the associated titles and indeed referring to themselves as Duke and Duchess. Do you not see any contradiction at all? It's so symbolic, it's hard to ignore.

Roussette · 20/07/2022 13:27

There is nothing worse than high heat and feeling yuk. Fingers crossed

I DO get what you are saying up to a point, but I can't move away from the other member of the royal family and the fact he is so much worse but retains his titles

38DegreesAndRising · 20/07/2022 13:27

By the way, this is different to the proposal of stripping titles from the likes of PA (I'm sure everyone would be in favour - I'm first in line).
I'm not at all proposing any titles are stripped from H&M. I'm asking why they themselves want to have them in the first place. It'd a very different question. To me it's about their own tangible actions following their - very principled - words.

38DegreesAndRising · 20/07/2022 13:30

In fact, and I have thought this before, I would have thought that the very fact that PA hasn't had his title stripped, would push H&M even more to making a very visible gesture to cut the symbolic tie - that of titled royal - that they share with him.
This simply must have occurred to them, I can't believe that it wouldn't have.
