I certainly don't find Charlotte adorable. Constantly bossing her brothers about, telling George how to stand for the national anthem, telling tales to mummy about them etc.

JellyBellyNelly · 11/06/2022 13:01

In Scotland (when I was growing up) people would refer to something as being done on the sly meaning, unobtrusively, on the quiet, on the QT, on the fly.

Charlotte was none of those things over last weekend. In fact she nearly took Louis hand off when she stopped him biting his nails (if that’s what he was doing]. He could also just behave been sticking his fist in his mouth to stop himself screaming at some of the sights in the parade. Either way they’re
lovely children.

Ohnonevermind · 11/06/2022 13:46

i’m a mum too of three children - three chlldren (two boys and a girl (eldest 12)

i was speaking to my daughter about her school. I’m in rural ireland but there seems to be an onus on the girls to mange the boys and keep them in line. The teachers sits a boy next to a girl to facilitate this.

Society really pushes this gender stereotype on kids from such a young age that girls/ women are responsible for mens behaviour.

Are the DC not in groups of 6 with a mix of boys and girls.

I'd speak to the school about this.
It is more mixed in DS school all the DC enjoy different roles during Aíster.

DS has been a hairdressers a nurse, a Mum role likewise the girls have been builders, electricians, firemen.

I know both male and females are capable of the above, it's great they're learning it at a young age.

@Alwayscheerful what a nasty thing to say 'messy hair' do you really expect a one year old to have perfectly coiffured hair ??

Not meant to be nasty at all .
I was pointing out an unusual choice, given Meghan's love of social media.
Most parents would choose the best photo for Christmas card or a calendar or a gift .
The toddler has the sun in her eyes , why choose this photo? .A real question, why?

Because they liked it. Hardly rocket science.

TequilaSunriseforme · 11/06/2022 16:02

Personally I’d rather see a photo like that than one where the child looks like they time travelled from the 1940’s . I thought it ridiculous that George was wearing a suit at the Jubilee celebrations. He’s a little boy.

Because they wanted to.

HTH.

Ohnonevermind · 11/06/2022 16:49

@TequilaSunriseforme

its been explained before that the suit helps provide a separation between ‘work’ and home.

Lili will never be Queen, they’re a bit more fliexible scope with her portraits - like the Queen

Last time I went to a wedding (about 2 years ago just before lockdown) all the little boys were wearing suits. At my local Catholic church all the little boys wear smart suits for their First Holy Communion and Confirmation.

Maybe you are a bit out of touch as it isn't a 1940s thing, just not your thing.

He was the only child dressed like that though. I know he’s the future King, but it looked overly formal to me.

It look smart and appropriate for the occasion.

ancientgran · 11/06/2022 18:06

Ah well I don't suppose he's worried. He was smartly dressed and probably likes it as much as the little boys at their First Holy Communion. They all turn up at Mass the following Sunday in their suits, they don't want to just have them for the one day.

Again not in the 1940s, very much a thing now and there are loads for sale if you have a google. Next do them, Debenhams do them. Main stream not unusual at all.

Where I live children still have their more formal clothes for the weekend and other occasions like Eid. Certain standards are kept and they enjoy it.

antelopevalley · 11/06/2022 19:38

I do not like seeing a small boy in such formal clothes.
And he is eight, he should not be working. So there should be no need for a separation between work and home.

Yes I think the boys enjoy it, obviously they wouldn't want to be in a suit all the time but don't we all like to dress up for special occasions? It is normal.

antelopevalley · 11/06/2022 23:15

No lots of children hate wearing uncomfortable clothes.

Maybe ask Meghan, your post is ridiculous. Write to her, you seem to have time. Messy hair, love for social media, why this photo?
It is a lovely photo of an adorable girl.

Maybe they aren't uncomfortable because they fit properly.

Yes exactly.

SoupDragon · 12/06/2022 10:48

he is the future king, not an average 8 year old boy. His "work" is being seen out and about as the future king. The formal clothes make this clear… when he's being "just" an 8 year old boy he wears ordinary stuff. It marks clear expectations of behaviour. The occasions where he is seen in a suit are very few and far between, hardly a chore.

antelopevalley · 12/06/2022 21:37

His work was sitting through a very long and what would be a boring parade for an eight-year-old with no phone or other item to amuse him. He was working as much as any other member of the Royal Family there.
So either none of them are working, or an eight year old boy is being made to work as well.
And either it is an easy job for all of the Royal Family, or it is unfair on an eight year old.

An eight year old shouldn't have a phone to amuse them.
