I've read so much about how she is frail/dying/already dead etc. and I'm so pleased to see her looking happy and animated at the Royal Windsor Horse Show even if she is still not walking around. I hope she will be with us for many more years.

@lameasahorse I cannot believe you grudge a 96 year old lady a day out . Really ?

Don’t feed the troll ! Doing it as a wind up !

Hang in there Lizzie as long as you can!! Hopefully Charlie will peg it first.

wow some people

grapewines · 13/05/2022 14:25

It's her right not to want to use a wheelchair - and I use one because I have to - the tabloids would have a field day with it and have her half in the grave. Let the woman go to a horseshow.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/05/2022 14:28

Bless her, she could do with a booster seat.

I bet you are one of those people who thinks that if you are signed off work with depression you should lie in a darkened room listening to sombre music and crying just to prove you are ill.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 13/05/2022 14:28

I really hope you can see as the thread goes on there is clearly a goady poster being absolutely deliberately vile.
I really hope you decide this is not in the spirit of Mumsnet.
Shameful

Shameful

It was supposed to be a happy thread.

I genuinely felt pleased to see her laughing and joyous.

@Worldgonecrazy I thought the same when I saw Pope Francis being pushed in a chair. As he has a bad knee. He said it was humiliating. A power chair or scooter would be much better.

Dear god. She’s ninety-bloody-six! She’s allowed to do what she fancies and fuck all else.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 13/05/2022 14:35

@TigerLilyTail Shame isn't it?
I was also happy to see her enjoying life a bit.
She is a 96 year old woman who has recently lost her husband and is recovering from covid.
How could anyone begrudge her a bit of happiness??

She’s ninety fucking five give her a break!!

When you’re still working at her age then you can criticise

Your 'criticisms' are petty and ridiculous. And I think you know it.

Oh go and read a ladybird book or something dear. No one is interested in your twaddle.

Sacked, ffs 😂Well let's see how many days a week you'll be working when you're 96.

A580Hojas · 13/05/2022 14:48

I think we've just seen peak unpleasantness on Mumsnet ☹. I hope the Queen is having a great day - it certainly looks like it!

queenofarles · 13/05/2022 14:51

So the Queen phones Boris Johnson every week and reads briefings about policies. That sounds like an appropriate workload for someone of her age. But it is not the job of the Head of State.
Appropriate workload for her age? Confused you are not serious are you ?

Give your head a wobble, she's 96, not long lost her husband and has done enough public duties for half a dozen lifetimes. You'll still be going into work at her age will you? No, you'll be spending your limited remaining time doing the things you enjoy with the people you love as she has every right to do. Some people FFS.

picklemewalnuts · 13/05/2022 14:55

Gosh, she looks fab! I'd far rather she went there and had a great time than spent precious energy on a stuffy ceremonial event her son and grandson were perfectly able to manage.

I'm far more reassured by those relaxed informal photos than by ones of her with her 'state face' on, going through the motions.

Anyone who begrudges her that needs a head wobble and a bit of introspection. She's not in a salaried role. She's the head of state.

Comedycook · 13/05/2022 14:56

Am I missing something with the state opening of parliament? Could she not have been taken privately to the seat with no television cameras and once seated, cameras roll and she could do the speech?

I don't think so. Isn't there some tradition going back to the Civil War or something whereby she (or someone on her behalf) has to knock before she can be let in?

Alternatively, she could have delegated the job of reading her speech to her successor.

oh, wait...

No, but we are supposed to have a basic level of common sense.

Oh chill out...I just asked a question
