The royal family

Who advised the Queen to walk into the Abbey escorted by Andrew??

This seems to be the most tone deaf and damaging decision. It's a public facing event with international leaders and royals. If it was a closed family gathering I could understand it - he is her son still- but why on earth would they allow him to escort her to her seat?! He should be invisible from now on and never represent the RF again. He could have attended and stood somewhere out of the way. She could have chosen anyone to escort her. It's staggeringly awful!

Then of course every word must be gospel.
Puzzledandpissedoff · 31/03/2022 09:17

Eachdaygoesby I expect you meant Bagshot Park in Surrey, but actually "Bagshit" Park works quite well Grin

On the staffing thing I'd always understood that all properties have permanent staff, but obviously fewer than when one of the RF is in situ. After all they'll doubtless want to bring along whatever people and things are in favour at the time, and with some of them that seeems to change like the wind

Which reminds me - does anyone know if Fawcett's slimed his way back yet? I realise he's supposed to have resigned (again) but doubt very much it'll last

Roussette · 31/03/2022 09:42

"slimed his way back in" 😂🤣

He's done that quite a few times!

CathyorClaire · 31/03/2022 09:48

Is this the third time Fawcett has fallen on his rubber sword?

I lose count.

Interesting to note that royal fixers seem to have a habit of leaving through revolving doors. Amanda Thirsk, PA's gofer is another example.

Eachdaygoesby · 31/03/2022 11:15

Puzzledandpissedoff and EthelTheAardvark

Well spotted, a genuine error as I hadn't had my first coffee when I wrote that!
I think I will stick with Batshit Park from now on though Grin

Puzzledandpissedoff · 31/03/2022 11:17

I thought Amanda Thirsk had "stayed gone", Cathy - wasn't there a legal settlement with Buck House or something?

Totally prepared to be proved wrong though; after all, with Andrew nothing would surprise me

Puzzledandpissedoff · 31/03/2022 11:20

Cross posted with you, Eachdaygoesby, and yes coffee always helps Grin

Or better still getting just plain plastered when thinking of this lot, since it blunts some of the horror ...

Eachdaygoesby · 31/03/2022 11:21

CathyorClaire I thought Fawcett had resigned over the cash for honours investigation? Are you saying he's been cleared and come back?

Eachdaygoesby · 31/03/2022 11:25

Puzzledandpissedoff yes it certainly is enough to drive you to drink! Smile

Joking aside, the closer you look at things, the more tawdry they appear. And I think we have all been conditioned to feel "unpatriotic" if we dare question the status quo!

LindaEllen · 31/03/2022 11:35

Oh my god what's wrong with everyone? Mothers don't just give up on their sons even when they're done wrong. There is no reason that Andrew shouldn't have gone to HIS FATHER'S ceremony and walked alongside HIS MOTHER. Take the Royal Family out of the equation for a moment and remember that this was about Prince Philip, and his family on a personal level, not the public/royal level.

He is no longer 'representing' the Royal Family at events etc, but this was not a Royal Family event, this was personal.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 31/03/2022 11:39

Oh my god what's wrong with everyone?

They're on a talk board.

this was not a Royal Family event, this was personal

It was a public event paid for by the public purse, filmed for international broadcast with the knowledge and agreement of the Head of State, attended by senior members of the royal families of many other countries. It could have been private, but our glorious Head of State chose otherwise.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 31/03/2022 11:39

Joking aside, the closer you look at things, the more tawdry they appear

Which could well explain why the more avid monarchists choose not to look

Predictable that Charles claims to be shocked over Fawcett's dodgy deals in the Gulf, though even more unbelieveable given his endless visits there - and anyway how could such an "intellectual" be unaware of so much?
But possibly Fawcett's another who'll have to be kept onside somehow, if he has interesting stories to tell

Swayingpalmtrees · 31/03/2022 11:45

So it was in fact the Queen's decision to have Andrew front and centre, despite Charles and William warning her that this would go down like a cup of cold sick with the public. She choose to do what she wanted anyway.

Whilst she wastes our money on pointless memorials and pays blood money to the victims of trafficking she still seems to think it is acceptable to bring that parasite in full view regardless. I hope they cancel the stupid jubilee and they fade into the background quietly.

I am completely done with all of them.
Why does Andrew come before the opinions of millions paying for their indulgent lifestyle and before the feelings and pain of the victims?

Really so far from okay.

Swayingpalmtrees · 31/03/2022 11:46

I am actually ready to kick the whole lots out now.
Someone give me a petition and the number for my MP

Roussette · 31/03/2022 11:59

LindaEllen

As has been said a thousand times... not one person has said he should not have gone. NOT ONE

And it wasn't a private personal family event. It was televised all over the world. And the Queen chose HIM above the heir to the throne, above her other son, above her daughter... to walk her in. What a touching moment it would've been if she had Anne helping her in.. as it is, it's all about the sons. I think that would have been a really nice thing to do... but no... she chose the one son who's paid off a civil case to do with sex trafficked victims.

Roussette · 31/03/2022 12:01

Let's rephrase that... who she's paid off. Not him. He hasn't got the money now his dodgy schemes have had the kibosh put on them

Myee · 31/03/2022 12:09

Well he had the proceeds from the sale of the massive chalet in Verbier, which I am sure he used for the pay off.

But where did he get the money to buy it in the first place? £12million or near enough......

Swayingpalmtrees · 31/03/2022 12:11

I wonder where Andrew got his millions from, some clever Journo one day will follow the trail and inform the world, he certainly didn't earn the money with his business acumen and intelligence did he!

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 31/03/2022 12:23

I know that Kazakhstan has been suggested by some journalistic sources.

Roussette · 31/03/2022 12:32

Not sure it's been sold yet. And he had a huge mortgage on it and a debt of £5M also that he was being sued for.

It wasn't sold as of a month ago.

He has got his money from dodgy deals and backhanders over decades. I mean... who on earth pays £3M over the asking price of an ugly mansion and then let's it go to rack and ruin? Yes the son/nephew of a Kazakstahn oligarch

TatianaBis · 31/03/2022 12:37

@SpinningTheSeedsOfLove

I know that Kazakhstan has been suggested by some journalistic sources.
A Kazak tycoon paid £3million over ask for South York despite it having been on the market for years, which he never lived in and was then demolished. So looks as if it was a money laundering ruse. PA was said to be a fixer for the tycoon.
SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 31/03/2022 12:41

I'm beginning to think our Head of State isn't up to the job. She's coming across as being either too bent or too gaga to head up the United Kingdom if she is actively aiding in the enabling and centring of Andrew and his dodgy interests and lifestyle.

Myee · 31/03/2022 12:51

A piece about the Sunningdale/South York house.

Sorry, I can't give you a petition. You'll have to work out for yourself how to start one of those. I expect it will say if you google. If you tell me your MP's name I'll look up his/her phone number or e-mail address for you.
