Why have official events requiring Harry and refuse the security even when paid for?

I don't understand this either

mugglenutmeg · 16/01/2022 08:45

I'm no fan of those two.....

But this seems a reasonable request. Private security doesn't have the intelligence the police do, he wants to pay for it himself.

StormzyinaTCup · 16/01/2022 08:46

I'm not sure on the dates (and I'm sure someone will come along and correct me!) but was the funeral of PP in his transition year and the statue unveiling after? Which may account for the security difference on his two visits.

mpsw · 16/01/2022 08:47

and there was no Cooperation or Intel from police or sharing of royal protection as he tried to fly home

We don't know any of that as fact. It might be true, or it might not. And the detail of how threat assessments are made and communicated will never be fully in the public domain.

(We can however reasonably infer that whatever the incident when he was here for the unveiling, it did not cause harm (disturbance and upset maybe) because it passed totally unnoticed by others, and so was dealt with adequately by whatever security he brought with him on that trip)

Roussette · 16/01/2022 08:49

He wants to pay for it. He wants to keep his family safe and as other posters have said... he wants to pay for the same that other members of the RF get.
It's no use bringing over his security from the US, they would be unarmed. Only the Police can be armed. And Harry needs the intel too.

I am just imagining Andrew saying he wants to pay for his own security hahaha... as if... pigs might fly

nottodaybatman · 16/01/2022 08:49

@SallyLockheart Harry may want to be at the unveiling etc but if the RF constantly leak his location and then refuse to agree a protocol for him attending with shared Royal protection and the home office don't let him pay to access the intel so his own security can be prepared ... what is the end game here?

Are the sussexes supposed to just supposed to wing it to prove themselves?

The unveiling was important to Harry and so he came and there was an incident, so whatever the default celebrity setting is, it did not work.

dafey · 16/01/2022 08:50

You might not think whether he works or not as whether he deserves Royal Protection or not but it’s the fact of the matter. As I have explained few Royals get 24/7 protection. Others get it when working. Harry doesn’t work at all so he doesn’t get it. It’s that’s simple. He wants to pay for it and that’s what the Judicial Review will address. In my view, he doesn’t qualify and he’s holding this up as a threat. No doubt Megan doesn’t want to visit. But he’s making life difficult for his family - as usual.

Yes, I don't think his working is tied in with his risk. I'm fully aware not all Royals have protection.

And I understand why he wants the review & the option to pay for it (not sure why so many think he wants "us" to pay).

How can you determine the risk level he has or feels? For one thing the UK press & public seem to have a disproportionate level of hate for him. Why should he not want to protect his family if he feels they are at risk?

Roussette · 16/01/2022 08:52

And I understand why he wants the review & the option to pay for it (not sure why so many think he wants "us" to pay)

Because they haven't read the statement Harry put out and they rely on the DFail for their take on it.

Funeral April 2021 Unveiling July 2021

I'm really not sure when/if the one-year review ever took place, as they don't seem to have been on one place for long enough together to have done so, and there has certainly been no move to reassign his former military roles. Probably rescheduled cos covid

And you know all this leaking of location by the RF? Harry had his own unarmed private security, he got papped, no big deal. No implication neo nazi terrorise were out and about to blow up his vehicle.

SallyLockheart · 16/01/2022 08:56

Dafrey. The level of risk he feels is against him is irrelevant.

Dreamstate · 16/01/2022 08:56

@nottodaybatman

And I should add the RF requested Harry be here at the unveiling and didn't extend the Royal protection. It's very underhand and dangerous

I imagine they intended to do the same for jubilee events. Invite the Sussex family and then whine to the tabloids that the sussexes are snubbing them when they need to cover up more Andrew news

It is very interesting they inadvertently forced the truth with Harry's statement confirming the issue. The RF must be really worried about the public mood about Andrew if they were willing to throw this story out there now.

Must be panic in Palace PR

100% an attempt to divert away from Andrew, as you say this isn't new news its been a yr!

Not to mention all the over the top articles about parties at downing Street. All an attempt to stop main headlines being about Andrew

dafey · 16/01/2022 08:57

🤔

nottodaybatman · 16/01/2022 08:57

@Roussette

But that was the whole purpose of the Mail story to get everyone talking about wicked Harry and meghan demanding tax payer funding for xyz. That would have dominated the new cycle for days.

I still cannot get over the RF refusing to share protection and the police intel so he could get safely from the unveiling to the airport to leave. The tabloids had been whipping up their nonsense for weeks in the lead up to the unveiling.

@mpsw if Harry had publicly complained about the incident the tabloids would say he was attention seeking and grandstanding off his mother's unveiling. The legal route with the home office would agree the protocol and permanently resolve the issue

Chilledchablis1 · 16/01/2022 08:58

I am pretty sure that HM or the POW could arrange suitable security if they were so inclined . But would it be enough for H ?
If his desire is to visit family would he actually need armed security?

ClariceQuiff · 16/01/2022 08:59

Possibly a silly question, but can't he just hire a private security team?

I agree that he and his family will unfortunately be targets so they do need security protection of some kind. Harry's stepped down from duties but he can't alter his birth.

SueSaid · 16/01/2022 08:59

I am far from a Harry fan but of course he is a target and should have police protection in this country. I mean obviously I'd rather he didn't grace us with a sulky visit but if he does he should have personal protection officers. Shame it couldn't have been resolved in private though, he's a bit lawyered up these days isn't he.

Last thing we need is a tragedy and it all being the UK's fault, again.

Roussette · 16/01/2022 08:59

No implication neo nazi terrorise were out and about to blow up his vehicle

Do you have access to intel meaning you know that to be a fact?

Also Meghan wasn't with him and their vile hate has been directed at her, although they did want to assassinate Harry for being a race traitor.

Interesting you know it to be 'no big deal'

TizerorFizz · 16/01/2022 08:59

The Judicial Review was in a statement from Harry’s Team. It will be in court listings when they hear it. It also won’t change the decision but could declare it unlawful. If it does, the Home Office would review their decision.

Roussette · 16/01/2022 09:01

Possibly a silly question, but can't he just hire a private security team?

They won't be armed and they won't have the intel of what the current threats are

TizerorFizz · 16/01/2022 09:01

This thread is becoming hysterically ludicrous. There is no mention of any particular threats in the statement.

nottodaybatman · 16/01/2022 09:03

@SallyLockheart the RF leaked the Sussex location in Canada while they were trying to agree the parameters of stepping back.
It was also leaked around exactly the same time that their security was being revoked.

This is why Harry should rightly pay for his own intel direct to his own security team. Relying on the RF machine not to leak if he was to quietly stay with them for a private visit is clearly not going to work and they refused to help him get out the country at an official event with the unveiling.

This judicial review will answer the question once and for all.

Roussette · 16/01/2022 09:03

But that was the whole purpose of the Mail story to get everyone talking about wicked Harry and meghan demanding tax payer funding for xyz. That would have dominated the new cycle for days

Absolutely.
Well done them for issuing a statement overnight rebutting the pathetic lies the DFail wheeled out.

itsgettingweird · 16/01/2022 09:03

I think it's very important to distinguish between him no longer being a working royal and the fact he's still born into the RF. the being born into the institution is something he has no control over. His parents behaviour that put him and William in the media spotlight is nothing he had control over.
Being made to mourn his mum at her funeral 8n public is nothing he had control over.

He also served queen and country in Afghanistan.

The real threat to him has never gone away and that was bourne from birth circumstance.

I'm still unsure of what I feel about him laying for police protection in the UK but can fully understand why he wants it looked into. I'm interested don't what the HO response will be.

sashagabadon · 16/01/2022 09:04

@SallyLockheart

I think he’s trying to establish the principle that he is entitled to royal protection police when he is in the UK. So , whenever and for what reason he and his family are in the uk. He’s offering to pay now, he may not in the future.

So, eg, he comes to the UK to film the invictus games for Netflix. Should armed police protection be offered to him? the paying is really irrelevant- he’s trying to override the Met Office assessment of risk which is not his place to do.

I think this is probably a correct assessment imo. He wants to pop back and forth and have U.K. police protection when he does. He probably figures he can get round the mixing private business with “official” visits by mixing the two when he comes to muddle who pays what and when bit. I don’t blame him for trying as I would too but I hope he doesn’t win as I think it sets a terrible precedent for other “lower in pecking order” royals to request this too. And is it just for Harry? Or for when the whole family comes or any member of the family? We could end up paying for Archie once he is an adult and wants to pop over too. I think it would become very unwieldy over time and have “mission creep” like all these things eventually do.
