According to The Sun. www.thesun.co.uk/fabulous/17082002/queen-prince-william-to-stop-flying-helicopter-fears-crash/

No not because she is worried about the environmental impacts, or even the optics of the environmental impact. But because she fears a crash that could kill William, Kate and George,
The article specifically mentions helicopter flights between Anmer Hall and Kensington Palace.

I think it’s a very relevant comment. Think about it. It’s probably why he wants to be in control of transporting his family.

aliceca · 20/12/2021 16:10

@DobbyTheHouseElk but no one will be chasing him in a helicopter.

True.

LifesNotEnidBlyton · 20/12/2021 16:11

Seems a good idea. And totally understandable given the number of the queen's extended family who have died in air crashes. Most notably the sister of Prince Philip who died alongside her husband and three of their children. One of whom was born just before the crash on board the plane.

rrhuth · 20/12/2021 16:12

It makes no difference which of them takes over, tbh. They cost a lot and deliver little.

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 20/12/2021 16:13

What is the deal with all the links to the scum? Trying to rustle up business?

AndARiverBeneathYourFeet · 20/12/2021 16:15

@ShirleyPhallus

Is this really true or is this just designed to encourage people saying “it would be the worst if the cambridges died! Just imagine harry as king, it’s so awful!” etc etc
Yeah it is.

Media whipping up insane rage against Harry for zero reason.

WoodburnersRUs · 20/12/2021 16:15

HMQ’s first cousin also died in a plane crash - he was named Prince William (of Gloucester) too.

Lunde · 20/12/2021 16:20

@aliceca

William did fly for air ambulance, but he flew far fewer hours than your average working pilot, so he wouldn't have gained the level of experience they have.
LOL you really think he was a hobby pilot that just did a few hours for the air ambulance?

He was an RAF military helicopter pilot for at least 5 years prior to the Air Ambulance

What do you think is more dangerous - flying from London to Norfolk or carrying out search and rescue missions off the coast of Wales?

hellsbells99 · 20/12/2021 16:22

I presume that part of the reason he flies between London and Norfolk is to keep up his flying hours , otherwise he would lose his licence.

Lunde · 20/12/2021 16:24

@WoodburnersRUs

Yet she was happy for her own husband to be a pilot. He even flew her to some overseas tours by piloting the Royal flight himself

I actually wonder if this has come from the Queen at all

ThatNameAgainItsMrPlow · 20/12/2021 16:31

@PartyPrawnRingGames

She also suggested that Andrew should travel by helicopter way more often and bring Fergie.
Andrew is mummy’s favourite though

What?

The op has started several threads linking to the sun website

The elder brother of the current Duke of Gloucester died in a place crash, and I think one of the Dukes of Kent did too.

BIWI · 20/12/2021 16:48

@santaclothes

Like me, the queen is worried about her family.

The difference is, of course, that my DC aren't in line to the throne!

Nothing to do with the mode of transport Grin

AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 20/12/2021 16:48

IIRC, it was the father of the current Duke of Kent.

AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 20/12/2021 16:49

That was in response to @Justkeeppedaling's post.

PlanktonsComputerWife · 20/12/2021 16:50

@roses2

I thought William and George were not allowed to travel together anyhow due to succession planning?
I think the Queen only made that up because she doesn't want to travel in the same carriage as her big-eared twat of a son.
TangledUp789 · 20/12/2021 16:50

Lots of commercial airline pilots have reported being out of practice and making more mistakes due to the lack of flight hours during the pandemic. So he might have a lot of experience with the RAF and Air Ambulance, but he could still get rusty if he's not flying regularly (he might fly loads in his spare time, I don't know).

I can see why the Queen is worried, but I admire William for breaking protocol and choosing to travel with his family.

aliceca · 20/12/2021 17:19

Yes exactly. You have to keep flying to be good at it. And those who do the minimum are more at risk of having an accident.

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/12/2021 17:30

Well they are quite crashy…

Aderyn21 · 20/12/2021 17:38

The Queen's job is to preserve the longevity of the monarchy. How long do you think the institution would last with King Harry and Queen Meghan?
And no, they wouldn't give up their claim - they'd move like shit off a shovel!

aliceca · 20/12/2021 17:50

@Aderyn21 why say that? Its not going to happen. M and H are totally irrelevant here.
Charles, William and the three children would have to die before that could happen.

OP posts:
AppleJane · 20/12/2021 17:56

The Queen knows it would be the end for the monarchy. Harry wouldn't want the job and the public wouldn't accept Andrew.
