Do you think Camilla will be Queen or Consort?

Obviously when the time comes. But it will.
I keep reading different opinions about whether Camilla will be called Queen or Consort.
Personally, I think she should be calléd Queen. It goes with her position. As I understand it, Philip was called Consort because otherwise as King, he would have outranked the Queen. That would not have been okay. But if Camilla is called Queen, she will not outrank Charles as King.
I know none of us knows whether she will be called Queen or Consort. But what do you think should happen?

Adding reasoning. The only reason why she would not be queen is due to her being a divorce. Many will speak of Diana but Diana has been dead many years now and would not have become Queen as she and Charles were divorced.

I think after the many years Charles and camilla has been married she absolutely should be crowned as Queen alongside King Charles. After all Anne Boelyn became Queen of England with a divorced husband so if it was good enough for Henry why not his descendants Smile

It's queen consort either way. If you are married to the monarch consort will always be apart of the title whether you're a male or female.

However I believe it's already been declared many years ago that she would princess consort, not queen consort like Kate will be.

I don't think she'll be either. Queen Elizabeth II will survive long enough for Charles to die first.

Her majesty has already done everything she can to ensure that Camilla is barred from ever being called queen. If my prediction above is false then whilst it's technically true that once she's dead she no longer has power to prevent Queen Camilla, I very much doubt that Charles would go against his mother's express wishes any time soon after her death. If both Charles and Camilla are still alive once it's been 10 years since QE2 died then he might crown C as queen as part of the celebrations of his 10th year on the throne. But I don't think that is likely.

@UncleHerbie that was 17 years ago and made sense as there was still a lot of public bad feeling towards Camilla. Things have changed.

And I cant believe some are saying the Queen will outlast Charles and Camilla. That is very unlikely.

I believe she will be Princess Consort because 17 years isn't that long a time in the grand scheme of the RF. (Personally I like Camilla though).

Things change. Diana had to be a virgin before marriage, Kate didn't. The RF pretend to be unchanging, but they do change and need to change.

My understanding was Charles wants to change this (once he is king he has the authority to) but there is tension with his sons over it.

So i think the jury is out on what will actually happen.

She would always have been Queen consort not Queen but there was mention of her being Princess consort instead I think?

Personally I think she should be Queen. She will be the wife of the King and her title will be Queen whether she chooses to use it or not. I think she does very well in her role.

As long as she lives long enough, it will happen. And she seems in reasonable health. The whole point of the monarchy is you don't get to choose who comes next. Something that those who want to skip straight to William don't seem to understand.

Its difficult to say. I think Charles wants her to be Queen. But I think they should stick to what was originally said and she should be Princess Consort.

she may be Princess Consort officially but most people/media will refer to her as Queen anyway.

It's perfectly possible for people to understand this but still to wish it were different.

If she was crowned queen and used that as the title, then she would continue as Queen Camilla. If not continue as Princess Camilla. If Charles predeceased his mother she wouid continue as Duchess of Cornwall (she'd actually be the dowager Duchess, but wouldn't need to use the dowager bit)

You only need to specify which queen is regnant and which is dowager when there are two Queens with the same first name. So Queen Elizabeth, widow of George VI, needed a title which differentiated her from her daughter the regnant queen. She could have used dowager, but instead chose the lesser used style of Queen Mother, which signified that she was both a queen and the mother of the current monarch

She will be Queen, just as she is now Princess of Wales.

The question is, how will she style herself?

She's styled herself Duchess of Cornwall, not Princess of Wales, out of consideration for Diana's memory. However, Diana was never Queen, so that isn't really relevant to the regnal style she chooses.

Personally, I can't imagine Camilla will be desperate to be styled 'Queen'. She is very publicity-shy - not without reason, since she took a largely undeserved hammering in Diana's lifetime and in the immediate afermath of her death.

If I were to put money on it, I'd say 'Princess Consort'.
